Looks like discussions with sampdoria are heating up as they are keen to buy Cutrone. Such a great shame that the guy didn't work out at Wolves, however I hope Fosun learn from this and only purchase players who are interested in the project as it was clear that Patrick was not at all interested in playing for us which probably led to Nuno sitting him on the bench and loaning him out to other clubs. Just hope we can recoupe some of our money and invest in the squad.

ITK RM J hasn't posted about this, so it mustn't be true #ITK :)

2.) 21 Jul 2021 21:54:28
Abit unfair on Patrick Wonky. From the games against Everton and the few europa appearances he came on and tried to change games and chased loose ends.
He clashed with Nuno from what I can see. But Lage should learn we need a bigger squad and we need to rotate players in the squad. I personally see Silva as a similar type of player to Raul. Obviously 11 years younger and without the goal scoring exploits just now.
I just tgink we need a clever runner who can link play but stretch back fours abit more than our current forwards. Vinicius and Leao would be good and could play as a front 3.
May need more wingers if Traore goes.

3.) 21 Jul 2021 22:58:40
Don't care what anyone says I will stand by what i've always said Nuno ruined Cutrones career imo.
Cutrone looked ok Saturday he certainly wants to play you can tell by his body language he just wants a fair chance and hopefully he gets it and gets his careeer back on track, be it with us or elsewhere.

4.) 22 Jul 2021 01:22:55
Be fair Rated fella, he's now been cut by about four different managers at this stage (in fact five with Lage) . Not saying Nuno didn't have his quirks with selection (he definitely did) but sooner or later Cutrone has to ask himself why he's not hitting his potiential yet and it can't just be the managers at fault! 👍.

5.) 22 Jul 2021 07:30:17
Who knows! He might slide into Lage's system and find himself at home at wolves and snub any transfer, however that is a very very unlikely scenario because as I say; he never wanted to move to England and play for us and I think it is that attitude that tipped Nuno off. I think if we can sell him and put that money toward the Leao signing then I think that would be good business.

6.) 22 Jul 2021 12:12:47
Beat me to it, Bully.

7.) 22 Jul 2021 12:41:34
Yeah bullys and wonky you're right guys, just me blowing of a bit of steam lol.

8.) 22 Jul 2021 17:13:59
Haha, no probs Rated. To be honest that's why I've been a little quiet on here of late, I find that silly season can get a bit too silly for me! 👍.

9.) 22 Jul 2021 18:47:00
If Mr. Cutrone was as good as he thinks he is none of us would be having this conversation on this thread!

20 Jul 2021 08:15:35
Leao talks have come to fruition since my tip off the other day. Media outlets say that he will be a replacement for podence if he goes to Spurs (I thought he was injured? ) . This is the same source that told me that Bruno Lage was being looked at back in January so pretty reliable.

I think this would be a good move as Leao is a young physical striker with potential while Podence is kind of surplus with Trincao, Neto, Traorè, Gibbs-White AND now even Ait-nouri as he is being played in a LW/ LM position over his previous LWB role.

Chiquinho is the only other name mentioned to me that hasn't yet hit social media (yet) .

WonkyGazebo

1.) 20 Jul 2021 08:55:52
Nice one 👍.

2.) 20 Jul 2021 09:14:31
I disagree White has had more then his fair chances to gain a place in the team and he is not good enough and should be sold, Traore does not have a footballing brain and should be sold, Neto injured out of action until November time and Nouri is no where near as good as Podence (who has been injured), if he is given the ball 10 times he will pass the ball backwards 8 times he needs to attack more.

3.) 20 Jul 2021 09:24:40
36 goals in 127 games isn't the best record though. I'd much rather stick with Jimenez and Silva and bring through Corbeanu.

4.) 20 Jul 2021 10:29:55
I think MGW should be given a solid preseason and see how he is in all honesty as I think he wasn't developed under Nuno as we all know he had his favourites and was injured for a time. A few seasons ago he was touted as an England prospect alongside Mount and Foden! Bruno likes to push and get the most of his youth players so I'm expecting some of our young fringe players to improve. I agree with you Jas that we need to start bringing on our youth players. We are yet to see how good Corbeanu is in all honesty and I hope we see him some point in preseason. However, even if he is class, that is still only 3 solid strikers in a 4-4-2 which is very risky because of potential injuries, cup competitions etc. We seem to have a habit of buying young players (Mir, Campana, Nazon just to name a few) and send them out on loan. Leao I think gives us something different and I would be happy to see him in the old gold. I just hope that if Podence does go, that it doesn't become a Jota situation and we end up regretting our decision.

5.) 20 Jul 2021 16:21:21
I think that we've all seen enough of Podence to snap any clubs hands off if they are really in for him, which I doubt. He's a one game in ten player whereas we need several nine games out of ten players. He's injury prone to boot.

6.) 21 Jul 2021 08:16:59
Agree OldWulf. Podence only really sparkled in his early games which were spectacular. Then physical players were easily knocking his confidence denying his style and unprotected by officials.
Need more strength in the prem therefore if we don’t replace he could be only an impact change from bench.

7.) 21 Jul 2021 09:59:10
The same can be said about most of our forwards including new signings with the exception of Raul.

8.) 21 Jul 2021 18:10:59
What about Neto, Baza? He's a nine out of ten games player is he not? Just a shame that we might not see him in action this side of Christmas. I agree that other recent signings have yet to convince.

16 Jul 2021 19:25:34
Hearing Rafael Leao is being looked at. A Mendes client and with Giroud joining inter; he won't get much game time so we're looking at a loan to buy deal but Milan want a permanent deal sorted. Another name mentioned is Chiquinho (once again another mendes client) who is an attacking midfielder - makes sense as Lage likes his attacking brand of football and we don't have anyone 'attack minded' going forward in the centre midfield.

On a side note. Did anyone else completely forget that we have Leo Bonatini on our books! I certainly did!

1.) 17 Jul 2021 01:01:12
Both those rumours been doing the rounds since before the end of last season, would love it to be true as Leal looks like a good player. If there's anything in it I suspect it would be a loan with an option. Mind you, I am unsure what Giroud signing for Inter has to do with the game time of a youngster who plays for AC?! 🤣.

2.) 17 Jul 2021 01:03:13
Ps- sorry Wonky I couldn't resist, I realise that you meant Giroud to AC which is probs true, especially as they will be making room for his wages 👍.

The Scottish team visited an orphanage, "look at their sad little faces with no hope" said Paulo age 6.

2.) 14 Jun 2021 09:46:39
Leao is going to Everton. Who in their right mind will want to come to the wolves now. Selling all their best players. Madness.

3.) 14 Jun 2021 23:39:30
Who exactly have they sold Demon?

24 May 2021 20:43:02
News outlets saying Lage has flown over to England and having talks with the wolves board. Predicted this appointment way back in January - still only a rumour though!

WonkyGazebo

1.) 24 May 2021 20:50:52
Can't see it to be honest.
Yes he has won the portugese league. But he has a lot less experience than Nuno in terms of European football.
I reckon the manager will be a big surprise.
Fonseca makes more sense but maybe someone out of the blue.

2.) 24 May 2021 20:53:39
99% Lage is incoming from everything I've seen

Romano saying it as well

Plays a very attacking 442.

3.) 24 May 2021 21:01:32
Large now 1/ 20 to be next boss.

4.) 24 May 2021 21:42:15
If it is Lage and he plays a 442 Coady could be looking over his shoulder.

5.) 25 May 2021 08:04:37
Coady will be fine, especially if we have proper full backs.

6.) 25 May 2021 18:45:02
Lage has flown in for the interview process. The club have already given a 2-3 week time frame. If they were just giving it to the first man they interviewed this would not be the case. Of course Lage may still get the job but his flying in was just the beginning of the search process rather than the end of it! Don't listen to bookies, if everyone on this forum bet on me to get the job guess what my odds would come in. Doesn't mean I'm getting the job or the bookies have any inside knowledge it just means some people will bet on any old nonsense! 🤣.

7.) 25 May 2021 20:03:26
I reckon by February we will be hiring big Sam, to keep us up.

8.) 26 May 2021 13:06:18
If every fan is like you demon, we will need Big Sam!

9.) 27 May 2021 15:43:34
Lage now 1/ 20 odds on

Second favourite is Lampard at 10/ 1 then Fonseca 16/ 1 and hilariously Terry Connor 100/ 1

Nothing quoted for Zidane.

Fabio Carvalho deal collapsed last minute for Liverpool. Time for us to cause an upset and compete for his signature in the summer, offer more money or a better contract to turn his head in our direction. With our Portuguese set up and the offer of more regular football than Liverpool, we stand a chance.

WonkyGazebo

31 Jan 2022 20:05:42
Anyone else think we should hijack the Fabio Carvalho deal to Liverpool? Fits our profile; young, Portuguese talent. Proven in England and an attacking midfielder which we will no doubt need in the next few windows with moutinho bound for retirement and Ruben Neves' head very slowly turning toward other clubs with European ambitions. Carvalho would be a good successor for our midfield (in time) and for less than 10mil, worth a punt.

1.) 31 Jan 2022 21:36:14
It would be nice to get one over on one of the so called big 6 and what you say has credence but it prpbably isn't really realistic.

2.) 31 Jan 2022 21:47:09
Agree 100%. Would be a brilliant signing and the fee being asked is not going to break the bank. Likely to get more playing time sooner with us than he would at Liverpool.

3.) 31 Jan 2022 21:59:11
Brilliant idea!
Saw him play early on this year at the Cottage with a Fulham fan friend who told me he had been great all year
He is Portuguese and so basically are Wolves.
He would get game time - unlikely at Liverpool - and as Jota and Traore have shown if you are good enough, even if you don't get it at Wolves, (one day soon), you will get Champions league football when you are sold.

4.) 31 Jan 2022 23:41:55
Only problem is gents that he stalled on the deal to Pool cause he knows in six months time half of the top clubs in Europe will be after him on a free! Apparently Dortmund are sniffing around, they have a habit of picking up youngsters and creating stars I suspect he may be next ?

5.) 01 Feb 2022 01:09:15
Which is why we need to push on and become one of those teams. Sadly football is a virtuous circle, ( without any virtue) in which the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. We had it in our grasp in the summer of 2020 and could still reach out and touch it with a bit of ambition and a better CEO who would grow the commercial revenues and allow people who know what tey are doing to run the foootball side thus avoiding £50m mistakes. But sadly decided we didn't want to be rich and were going to step back for a year (?)
I will look on Tuesday what everyone has done in this window but suspect that the comment that it is hard to do much is probably true and most clubs will hav stood still. However a few have clearly strengthened and from a first glance Burnley and us have clearly weakened.

Deadline day is looming and the importance of getting a goal scorer cannot be clearer when looking at the stats for our first 3 games this season. When Moore was linked with us I was very dubious and not that enthused with him being our potential striker but after yesterday's game, he could be the finishing touch we need. We have an abundance of finesse/ tricky players but what we need now is a goal poacher. Someone who is clever, got good box awareness and can find the net (like Glenn Murray and Danny Ings) and Moore from what I have heard may fit that description. The only snag I think is that 7M is way too much for a championship, 29 year old who has no PL experience or any resale value in the future.
The only other name I have mentioned in previous posts and has since gone quiet in the rumour Mill is Raphael Leao; who may also fit the criteria we need.
A new CB may also allow Lage to play a 4-4-2 and more attacking prowess but with only 2 senior strikers on the squad sheet, we would still need some reinforcements.

That's my opinion anyway! Love these sort of discussions on this site; let me know what you guys think and whether you agree or not! On a side note, Chan on paper looks like another fast, tricky player and will be interesting to see if he'll play ST or on the wings. COYW (and please sign someone! )

To be honest Wonky I think any club in the Prem could do with a Danny Ings cause (and I hate saying this now:) but the guys a class finisher! I get your post but just for some context you used Glen Murray as your other example, now over three seasons he scored 26 Prem goals. Whereas our very own Raul scored 30 Prem goals in his first two seasons! We don't need a new striker we just need our old Raul back! Let's all hope that happens with time, he's looking sharper but definitely needs that first Prem goal. I'm also a realist and so am aware that after last season it may (sadly) never happen for Raul, but let's all give him that chance before replacing him. I know it can make for hard watching but after the year he's had the lad needs the pack behind him more than ever! C'mon Raul lad, we all know you can do it get those shooting boots back on lad! 👍🐺.

Thoughts after the Crewe game:

LAGE OUT!

Just kidding! Good to see the urgency and press that was seen in the 1st half. Every time we lost the ball 2-3 players worked hard to regain possession which is something that we all know Lage likes in his football. New boy Trincao looked technically adept but misplaced several passes during the game, which, will improve as he learns our plays and his team mates. Fabio has noticeably been bulking up over the summer which will help him immensely. One thing which has made my day is seeing our boy Raul Jimenez play in the old gold again and put in a steady but decent performance and I'm sure he will be back to his scoring ways in no time after what would have been (a few years ago) a career ending injury!
Great to see some of the academy players get their time in the 2nd half and the standout player for me is probably Ottasowie. He is an absolute titan of a player and has the physical attributes to dominate the center of the midfield - the only thing that I believe is missing is his finishing and the confidence to take on players and use his prowess to 'scare' defenders (something I'm sure Adama can give him a few tips on) .

Still very early days with half the squad missing but at this stage in preseason it is all about fitness levels improving and for us to learn the way that Bruno wants us to play not at about results. Yes a 1-0 lose doesn't look good on paper but that's why we have preseason games so we can make mistakes and experiment.

Overall, liking what I see and can't wait for the rest of the preseason. COYW.

A predictable showing for a hot day in Cheshire. I thought the framework is there for some exciting play this year. As wonky says above it was good to see raul back and a shame his laid back free kick deflected off the top of the bar. Cutrone has had his time marked, he moved well but his finishing lack lustre, maybe with abit more integration he'll perform. The young lads did themselves proud but I do wonder why some think anything special in otasowie, for me he gets where he should be but then dosnt produce. I think maybe he's tied up in his own legs, he's been tried all over but dosnt fit yet. Anyway, their goal was offside to everyone but the linesman and it was a day in the sun. Get the 1st teasers back and I think we'll be in for a season to relish. I said before we'll lose first 3 it'll be bruno out but then we'll flourish and seasons end bruno will be another hero. Onwards and upwards. COYW.

2.) 17 Jul 2021 20:19:25
To me OO seemed very cumbersome. Other U23's just didn't se seem up for it.

3.) 17 Jul 2021 21:20:08
People on twitter saying last we've seen of Cutrone today, I don't think it is as he did decent imo got himself around and if it hadn't been for a couple of good saves he would have bagged a couple of goals too, one to watch pre-season I think.

4.) 17 Jul 2021 21:34:43
Not really sure what to say about the Crewe game.
Obviously using it to give competitive fitness and to decide which youngsters deserve to go to Spain.
There is obviously a lot of work to do and hopefully when the senior players return we will see more of the methods Lage will bring to the team.
We need to sort any impending transfers in or out so the squad is settled ASAP.
Certainly there was more fight when pressing after the ball but that won’t be the answer to all the problems in The Premier.

11 Jun 2021 21:51:31
Quick thought. I Wonder if our forgotten man Cutrone will be given another shot at Molineux? He obviously didn't get on with Nuno, hence the several loans but now that Lage is at the helm, Patrick might prefer playing in a 4-4-2 with an added striker for support (he seemed to struggle playing as a sole striker) and I'm sure Fosun would like to make the most of an otherwise wasted investment. With Lage probably needing at least 4 strikers on his squad (to support his formation) this seems even more advantageous. Would at least like to see him get a run of games in preseason (if C.V. allows) to see if he fits Bruno's vision.

WonkyGazebo

1.) 11 Jun 2021 23:28:58
I agree. He had a hunger to play and showed genuine emotion when scoring in front of the South bank.

2.) 12 Jun 2021 00:10:16
Should have kept him at the club instead of bringing in that statue Jose, at least Cutrone had passion and tried.

3.) 12 Jun 2021 07:06:13
I agree, or even Mir if we don't get any decent offers.

4.) 12 Jun 2021 07:20:06
I think he should be given another shout. In a different system he could perform better.

5.) 12 Jun 2021 08:06:46
I totally agree that there is a player in there who just needs a run of games and building his confidence. Also I felt he played well in a front two (he played with Jiminez away at Man City and although the end product wasn’t there he was always a threat with his speed and interplay) .

6.) 12 Jun 2021 08:46:23
I'm sure Lage will give Cutrone, Mir and Bruno Jordao the opportunity to show what they can do before he makes a decision.

Don't know about Ait Nouri or Vitinha as they have already left the club so any movement on them will be based on footage and feedback from those already at the club.

7.) 12 Jun 2021 08:50:35
Sorry, I think if we keep mir, cutrone, it's a step back,
We must keep our best players, to entice a few more decent signings.
Coyw, coye, 👍👍👍.

8.) 12 Jun 2021 13:06:22
All I would say about Cutrone in respect of your post GLW is that Cutrone’s stock / resale value at this stage is diminished and if we can get him playing to his potential then it is win / win for both club and player. Cutting your losses seems the worst of all worlds right now.

9.) 12 Jun 2021 13:25:34
Also with Cutrone being Italian he could help attract a couple of good Italian players if ever we went for any too.

Both Jordao and Shabani are still on loan and will be having their preseason with their respective clubs. Many of the squad are still on their break from either the Euros or on their holidays. All of them should be present for the Spanish preseason games; including the new CB and GK.

The Dendonker name calling is getting seriously old. They're not funny at all. Fair enough if you don't rate or like a player but at least have some respect. Leander has been instrumental in filling the gaps left by our injury stricken squad at CB and CM and without his adaptability, we may have faced an even WORSE season than the one we just had. The guy has always given 100% when wearing the badge. Whether you think that 100% is quality or not is another discussion for a different thread but cut out the name-calling.
