Number 4
CBs
An area where frankly,(and astonishingly), you should acknowledge Wolves have done very well.
The 4 first choice options are Djiga, Yerson, Toti and Krejci.
Conveniently the first 2 are RCBs and the second 2 are LCBs
My first pair would be Djiga and Krejci.

At this level, (and I genuinely believe, albeit perhaps giddily on the basis of Djiga's astonishing transformation, that they could step up if Wolves were to be promoted), they are a class act.

The big question that will be screaming out to some of you is Krejci's attitude and desire to be here.

Clearly that is a question that only he really knows the answer to. To date though for me at least his on-field performances do not indicate that there is an issue. His regular absences do cast doubts though.

Again only he and the club know if the injuries are real but at the moment I am still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Some will and indeed have also questioned if he is as good as his pedigree would indicate.
He is good on the ball and is strong in the air but is perhaps a little less than rapid.

However I believe that his ability to read the game and his power and strength mitigates this lack of real pace and indeed I firmly believe he already is a premier league quality player.

He was bought for a high fee but is surprisingly on reasonably modest wages at least relative to some other squad members - although clearly they are very high for a championship player!

Finally the fact that he is clearly both more than capable of playing at CM and an experienced and consistently successful penalty taker is a bonus.
His partner though is one of the 2 major success stories of the season.
When Djiga was bought for £10m, (albeit on very modest wages), he looked like he was a complete write off and was sent out on what I gather was not a totally successful loan to Scotland.

However after gaining his place due to Yerson's injury he has rapidly transformed into a diamond!

Good on the ball - perhaps my only criticism is that he overplays occasionally - strong in the air and in the tackle he has been the rock in the Wolves defence.

Again it is only a small sample but at the moment it looks like he could easily step up.
The back ups are obviously by definition not as good as the first choices.
However Yerson, despite his horrendous initial run of injuries and his somewhat erratic on field antics, has developed into a solid uncompromising defender who I still believe has a potential Prem defender in him.
He was bought for pennies and is on very modest money.

Even Toti, who I have criticised massively, has a great attitude, tries very hard and is a decent athlete which means, like Jackson, he is an adequate defender. Sadly like Jackson, although not as bad, Toti is a car crash on the ball.
He was also bought for nothing but bizarrely and totally unexplainably he has been put on a ludicrous contract so is obviously totally unsaleable.

However although for me he is not even a Championship player in a back 4, he showed with better players around him - (RAN was amazing at helping him out by taking all sorts of rubbish passes from him and using his brilliance to clean things up and Dawson was brilliant in helping him with his positioning/thinking) - that he could and indeed did play regularly in the Prem in a 5.

However if Wolves are to play him regularly even at this level let alone in the Prem he does need to be protected and have most of his ball playing responsibilities removed.

This is not possible in the current system or with the current squad but if by some miracle the club was promoted AND signed a quality LB, (please can we have RAN back now that he is 3rd choice at city), who could take over his ball playing duties then even he, particularly in a 5, could be a 4th option in the Prem.

Thank you very much.
I am trying to analyse each position using three factors.
Financials - wages and fees.
Forward planning - suitability for next year and beyond in whichever division the club is playing
and finally the level of competence for this season.
Gks are pretty poor on the first two counts and only modestly adequate on the 3rd.
RBs are a disaster on all 3 counts - especially as Trippier seems incapable of performing to the level expected or indeed even getting onto the pitch regularly
LBs although cheap as chips are merely adequate on the 3rd count and need massive optimism to imagine competence on the 2nd issue.

CBs however apart from Krejci's fee and Toti's inexplicable wages score well on all three counts even if on count 2 it does require an element of faith.
DMs etc still to come.

Personal opinion i would have kept Bueno over Krejci. Bueno reads the game better and positions himself better. Krejci has a habit of being out of position. I still think he is a good player but wouldn't surprise me if he is gone in Jan.

Agree that Krejci and Djiga are our best pairing but Toti (footballing reasons) and Mosquera (attitude) are liabilities for me. Mosquera clearly hasn't learnt while out injured as he could easily have got himself sent off the other night despite only being on the pitch for a few minutes.

Although raw, Olaganju who is only 19 looks promising and his performance at Sheffield Wednesday was excellent.
I think you can forget RAN coming back but he'd get exposed in a back 4 anyway and I don't think we should be reverting to a 5 anytime soon.

Alex - he may well be - although it appears that Wolves are not willing on this occasion to sell cheaply.
Consequently it will require someone very keen and obviously someone who rates him far higher than you do.
Note Santi's option price is a fraction of the fee that seemingly will be required to sign Krejci.
It is of course all about opinions but for me Santi is just too slow - Krejci isn't quick but he looks like Bolt compared to Santi.
Old both points you make re Toti and Yerson are v fair.
oti obviously will never improve as a footballer but I believe that a good manager with better players might be able to hide him sufficiently to make him a 4th choice - note he is going nowhere due to his stupid contract so Wolves really have no option but to go down that route.
Yerson just needs to grow up and again a better manager should be able to get him to achieve that.

Then for me he becomes a real option.
Maybe the young ex Chelsea lad could get some game time in the FA cup and maybe be used as bench cover some weeks to see if he can step up.
Re RAN of course you are correct. Wolves can't afford him and he would be far too good to be at Wolves anyway. You are obviously correct to say he would be better in a 5 but i think he is a million miles better than any of Hugo, Trippier, Jackson or Konan and Wolves are playing them in a 4 in the Champ.
I still cling to a stupid dream that Wolves will be promoted, Fosun will re engage and the sun will come up on Neves leading a massive revival of the club's fortunes.
In that case RAN even only on loan from Man City looks like a great idea.
Of course it is a stupid dream but at my age dreaming is for free!

KREJCI is not a match winning defender. he cant keep clean sheets.

TOTI on his day actally is.

i much prefer krejci in midfield and he'd be good there next to andre.

Interesting point "owt" I agree 50%.
I would like to pick Krejci in midfield where I think he would be great alongside Andre and James.
Note with the players currently available as I have said before I would go 4,3,2,1 with those 3 in mid and Lopez and Mane behind a cf - which tragically would have to be Armstrong even though he is clearly not a good number 9 but that is another issue - wait till I gt to the number 9 in the series to read my views on that debacle!
However I disagree that Toti is a better defender than Krejci in fact I think Krejci is far superior to Toti who for me is definitely 4th choice CB due to his lack of ball playing abilities.

I recognise he is an adequate defender in a v limited role but Krejci is both a better defender and a far superior ball player.
For me Krejci is one of the better players in the squad - only obviously behind Andre and astonishingly this season Lopez and Djiga- and given he can play 2 roles really well - and in positions where the club is short of quality- it is a shame we don't have 2 of him!

We can not register anyone now until January so it's no good signing someone on a free or recalling anyone.
We have 25 registered, the only exception is de-register a injured player or sign a emergency goalkeeper.
U21s are exempt so they can just play.

22 Oct 2026 16:44:46
Wolves have to leave the free transfers alone. Konan looks a pretty decent find, but Bertrand Traore looks to be a waste of money.

If Wolves don't go up this season, Trippier will have been and will continue to be a monstrous waste of money.

5

23 Oct 2026 09:34:00
Bertrand what little weve seen of him.is no worse than said.beats himself with the ball then gives it away.utter garbage. like doyle.and fgs tfig..ran is never coming back and please find something productive to do rather than speculate garbage on here!

I am hoping that if we don't go up this season. which I can't see happening. Fosun will get what money they can then sell up
Bloody hurray.
Then perhaps with decent new owners we can get a 1st class coach & manager. because at moment irs looking grim.

4

22 Oct 2026 12:17:18
The thing is who exactly will buy the club. We can point to the likes of Bournemouth who have been bought by Americans but these are few and far between. We haven't got a locally made billionaire like Brighton and Brentford.

Look at Everton. Taken over by Americans 2 years ago who are trying to sell for huge profits.

No one is interested in buying Wolves to take them forward. They will only be bought so the owner can add it to their business CV and earn from the clubs name/history.

So whilst I too want Fosun out, I just can't see if there is anyone out there willing to buy us.

7

22 Oct 2026 14:12:29
Sensible post GWIL.
To get anywhere near where we were a few years ago would take hundreds of millions of pounds or many years of buying and selling players to fund the project.
Add to that a billion for a new stadium or hundreds of millions to re-develop the current stadium and it's not a viable proposition.

Even if an American multi-billionaire fancies a stint in Wolverhampton to take on the project they won't be allowed to spend the money that would allow us to compete.

22 Oct 2026 14:37:38
If Wolves don't go up this season surely there will be nowhere for Fosun to turn.

Going into the 27/28 season, they would have to strip the squad to its bare bones - too many high earners & some saleable assets - and start afresh. Fosun do not have the ability to do this effectively. They continually show themselves to be inept. What they know about football could be written on the head of a pin.

Uncle Jorge's bag of tricks has been of no use for years. Mendes is now adversely affecting Wolves. Fosun won't see this because his interests are too heavily tied into Fosuns interests.

Many Wolves fans have had enough of Fosun. Failure to get promoted back to the PL at the first time of asking - especially after all the BS at the Fans' Forum - would turn even more fans against them.

The 27/28 season could easily see Wolves in the Championship playing at the Molineux in front of 20,000 fans. Undoubtedly with a very average head coach trying to motive very average players. I think this scenario is realistic - and by this stage Fosun would have taken enough money out of the club to sell it for a satisfactory amount.

There is no reason for any fan to speak positively about Fosun. They are habitual liars who are slowly flushing Wolves down the toilet. They have lacked ambition and interest for years. They're not putting any money into the club, other than the bare minimum they were begrudgingly forced to spend in order to keep the youth systems category one status intact.

I must admit to having doubts about US owners, English football has a fair few of them with differing levels of success having been achieved. Whilst they understand professional sport as a business, the US franchise models are way different to English football.

So what does that leave Middle East or far East, I doubt that an abramovich type will be allowed back into English football in a hurry.

German or Barcelona model !!!

The Chinese, after 10 years, still appear not to understand the Football industry.
I struggle to understand why they continue with Wolves.
For me the failing is, not the level of investment during their ownership, but their not appointing people to guide the way funds should be used.

There is no executive Board to drive strategy, just a few administrative underlings in the UK to manage the day to day.
If they are not going to put a Board in place with authority, why bother at all?

22 Oct 2026 09:30:05
Many on here are quite correctly now questioning the manager's competence. To be fair to them all they have not enjoyed good support from the owners Fosun. We also speak of preferred candidates when the axe drops. Many mention names, yet I recall a few asking "who of any calibre would want to come to Wolves"? Surely after so many changes we can clearly see the quality of those who chose to come.

It is a get rich quick job for the suitcase managers, an early payoff is their reward. As long as Fosun own Wolves no manager with serious intent, and an eye to advancing his career will come here. What we are experiencing has nothing to do with football, or the reputation of a good club.

Good post mate i quite agree.

22 Oct 2026 19:21:44
If CP is on the way out, and I don't think for one moment he is,
I would look at replacing him with Robbie Keane. Robbie obviously knows us and English football. Robbie has won titles abroad as a manager already, and is on record as loving his job.

21 Oct 2026 22:11:48
Whatever happens to Wolves going forward, can we all agree that Tommy Doyle is ****.

Peixoto starting him and putting him in the 10 role is by itself a sackable offence. Especially when he had Mane available. Shows just how clueless he is.

How many Championship sides would put Doyle in their starting XI? Peixoto thinks the sun shines out his ass.

Peixoto also needs to drop Munetsi. I don't understand what his role is. Is he told to run around like a headless chicken and cause havoc? £16 million that would have been better spent on a jar of magic beans.

7

22 Oct 2026 03:28:01
I said all along Doyle is rubbish i'm glad others are seeing it too.
I want it to work for the lad i really do but he is League 1 at best.

5

22 Oct 2026 08:34:22
I said in pre season doyle is crap dont know where he would play hes no 10 or cmd will be ok in League 1 as cm but shooting poor and cant win the ball so in our side hes no good.

3

22 Oct 2026 09:01:33
Mana or Doyle no thanks both bad.

1

22 Oct 2026 13:39:37
I think Doyle showed us how much of an asset he is to the team on Tuesday against Pompey, when he was used as the "draught excluder” behind the wall when we faced a free kick close to our box.

0

21 Oct 2026 20:29:47
We are like man utd lol sack managers play 2nd half seasons sack managers lol rinse and repeat. unless the fosun ownership changes i dont think anything will change im afraid. and this team is the worst in 5 seasons as before we had star quality individuals (fer aside we dont have that luxury in this team) i think wel make playoffs but just and we definitely wont win playoffs.

6

21 Oct 2026 21:35:57
Can't see us making play offs unless we having there till January & buy well which we won't. My prediction is for nuno to take the hammers up as champions. Boro 2nd & Swansea win play offs.

5

21 Oct 2026 22:41:55
This bunch of players will not reach the playoffs unless they start to go into matches with intent and start to hit the target when they get chances Mana Doyle are no where near the level to be playing in the first eleven.

3

21 Oct 2026 23:16:08
"This bunch of players will not reach the playoffs.” full stop.

6

22 Oct 2026 08:23:41
We are in the playoff places atm tho and i think we'll stay in there but won't win it.

21 Oct 2026 19:44:19
I've posted a couple of times about how poor some of our players are ( Toti for one) and how bemused I've been at some of the team selections.
James must start with Fer as our attacking midfielder pair Keep Andre as the defensive midfielder.

Drop Toti and Tchachua. Don't star Mane
I would also drop Sa his distribution is shocking.
Neave up top. And CP has no clue about the championship which is a very difficult league.
Sorry for this I'm just venting.

4

21 Oct 2026 20:35:49
Don't apologise. I think many of us are coming to the same conclusion that CP is completely out of his depth. Another one!

3

21 Oct 2026 21:39:00
I think one or two of the player's getting fed up with mane now not being a team player. He's got selfish around the box & frustrating player's in better positions. overrated for me.

5

21 Oct 2026 15:32:36
Unfortunately from recent history they will not act on CP for some time.
Surely some of the management will realise if he has lost the players already, if so, very little point in waiting in hope of things improving.
Personally after playing them lot I thought things were looking up for us all including CP, I hoped we would kick on with the same level of performance.

Not being arrogant to other teams, however, we should be beating the likes of Bolton and Portsmouth at home even with the players we have.
I think they will stick with him for at least the next couple of games.
Always the same then, we will probably scrape a win which means they persevere with him for longer, absolute shambles again, every year the same.

5

21 Oct 2026 17:33:16
I don't think that CP will be going anywhere in the near to middle future. The season is just starting so knee jerk decisions won't help things at this stage. What should be happening, and i hope it is, is that a shortlist of alternatives is being drawn up following due diligence being followed.

We may have to wait for a suitable replacement and hope that the club doesn't sink so low that it makes it an unattractive proposition to any possible candidates.
I hope that the club uses Ai this time round as there last few choices have proven unsuitable.

21 Oct 2026 17:36:57
Hi haven't posted for ages but read your messages every day well what can I say it's all doom and gloom for our club I think cp has lost the dressing room and well fosun they need to put up or put the club up for sale because I can't see them doing anything for us anymore I think cp will have a couple of more games if nothing improves he need to go and get Sean Dyche in temporary or look for a manager who can sort this out but a lot of the blame is Fosun.

21 Oct 2026 19:05:17
Don't shoot the messenger, but I'm going to post anyway.
Last night was abysmal, especially the first half but I do have a theory on that. A few weeks ago, we turned those down the road over, and everybody was singing from the rooftops.
Unfortunately we then went into an international break, just as we were getting to grips with the championship.

After the break we had what I consider to be one of if not the hardest game of the season, Boro on their own patch.
I think we were unfortunate not to come out of that game with at least a point.
I can't pass comment on the Bolton game as I was away, but they turned us over, and i maybe wrong, but that's when are supporters started to turn against the team and manager. Burnley away, we ground out a victory, all be it a but fortunate, but without the pressure of the golden palace supporters.

I maybe wrong, but right from the start of the game last night, the atmosphere was not great.
I know people will say that the team should perform to get the fans going, but it works both ways, and last night their was not the usual noise from the kick off. We may not have the best players in the world, but we do have some useful ones, and you can see what pressure was doing to them.

CP may not be the best man for the job, personally I think he needs to be given the chance to get us back to where we were for the albion game. If they decide to get rid, why would any decent manager worth his salt, want to take over when they see how previous managers have been treated.
It's a long season and I just hope we can return to the level of performance which saw us play do well against the tescos.

8

21 Oct 2026 14:45:33
I liked Brian clough no nonsense bloke
I don't think there's a manager out there at the moment good enough or willing to take on wolves.
You have to be insane as a player or manager at moment to come to wolves with the way it's being run.
Perhaps the glory days will come again
We can only hope.

5

21 Oct 2026 14:01:33
We need a Mick McCarthy type manager in no nonsense gets the players to put a shift in.

7

21 Oct 2026 14:21:36
Correct. Wolves need a manager who is battle-hardened and experienced. Someone who hasn't gone from one club to another. Someone who understands Championship football.

Alex Neil? He got Norwich into the PL. Near 40% win ratio at PNE. Near 50% win ratio at Millwall.

5

21 Oct 2026 14:46:34
Sean Dyche!!!

3

21 Oct 2026 14:50:22
One thing Wolves have to stop doing is hiring these suitcase managers. They're living in temporary digs, they don't bring their families with them, and they're buggering off home at every opportunity. They're not invested in Wolves. Half of them are simply waiting for a payoff. They might as well arrive at Wolves with carry-on baggage and a book: 101 things to see while on holiday in England.

Rob Edwards was at least along the right lines, but he was a dreadful appointment.

Gary O'Neil was a wet blanket who spent most of his time fu__ing off to London at every opportunity.

7

21 Oct 2026 16:25:19
Doesn't matter who we have as manager as there must be something in the Wolverhampton air that requires the whole team to play crab football and just recycle, recycle without doing anything progressive or positive.

Took the biscuit last night when Krejci hit a wonderful diagonal crossfield pass to the right wing only to receive the ball back, in virtually the same position, only 3 passes later! Safety first football at its very worst. Dire!!!!

6

21 Oct 2026 18:50:04
Good post NWaTS!

3

23 Oct 2026 16:43:45
Fosun don't employ Managers who want to manage, Nuno tried but they started selling his players, Rob Edwards started by bringing in our best two players and was sacked, CP is no better or worse than his fellow Countrymen who've passed through.
