If we actually sell Ait Nouri for the reported fee of £30M to Man U or Liverpool I will be disgusted with Fosun's business acumen and it will prove my thoughts that they're cashing in before they sell. He's undoubtedly worth at least £50M in today's market.
1.) 26 Nov 2024 16:34:30
It's all media bullsh*t.
We sold Nunes for £50m+, Kilman for £40m+ so I'm sure Fosun will get the right price for AIT
2.) 26 Nov 2024 18:50:08
Sorry Pikey Wolf, but RAN isn't worth £50m. He's OK going forward has the occasional deft touch and knows where the oppositions goal is, but out weighing this is his inadequacy in defence. He loses the ball with over-playing/poor passes around the half way line 2 or 3 times a game. In my opinion he's been pretty much responsible for at least 7 of the goals against so far this season.
3.) 26 Nov 2024 19:53:46
Yeh but if we sell to liverpool or suchlike they will use him correctly and turn him into a 60mil.player.going fwd there aren't many better.same as t.a.a.ready made replacement for lpool.so hold out for 50mil.easy
{Ed001's Note - TAA plays on the right, hardly a ready made replacement.}
4.) 26 Nov 2024 22:18:30
Sorry but I'm with East here, £50m is a LOT of money for a defender that can't defend! Without a massive change in his defensive attributes I genuinely don't believe a big club will even be in for him! He's great at going past people by that alone is not enough for modern full backs ?
5.) 27 Nov 2024 15:23:57
Well whatever we sell him for, we've got to pay Angers 50% of the profit. So if we sold him for £30m we'd have to take off the £10m we paid for him and give £10m to his former club.
Hardly seems worth it.
6.) 27 Nov 2024 17:10:59
v good thread with lots of excellent contributions!
I agree with lots of bits and disagree with quite a few as well
It's interesting to see posters's views though and great that this contentious/multi faceted issue has created some unusual alliances/agreements.
Firstly undeniably RAN is not a strong defensive full back - but is that ability, ( don't think so - see Salah game last year), attitude, (is he careless and casual in possession or simply too ambitious or optimistic/out of kilter re his colleagues) or tactics, (like Doherty before him RAN is often out of position but as with Doherty is that because the manager wants him to bomb on?).
However I think it is a little harsh to underplay his offensive capabilities. He isn't just good he is amazingly good.
In a better team that could give him a freer role - like TAA at Liverpool albeit RAN is left sided not right - and who could cover his defensive weakness he would be extremely valuable.
Breaking teams down is incredibly hard even for the top sides and RAN is as good as any (except perhaps TAA) defender at doing so. Even at a weak club who don't score many he has more goals and assists (5) so far this season than any other defender in the league.
Consequently I would hope we would get significantly more than £30m.
Clearly at a better side his weaknesses would diminish in importance, ( top teams are forced to defend far less anyway and RAN's shortcomings could be covered), but his strength would become more obvious as his team would have more of the ball and the opposition would not be able to devote as much time and energy to defend him.
He might therefore be even more successful going forwards.
On the next point however sadly whilst we got great prices for Kilman and Nunes we got terrible ones for Neves, Neto and Traore. Consequently I can't be certain that we will extract more than £30m regardless of what I feel about his ability, cf for example Kilman.
Finally Wandering if we get above £20m we would simply buy out the 50% option, (Liam Keen confirmed recently that it is not on profits but sales price and we still have the option at £9.5m.)
So if we sell at £30m we buy out the option for £9.5m and keep £20.5m.
7.) 27 Nov 2024 20:47:48
Is it really worth it then?
We paid £9.5m for him so if we sell him for £30m without buying out the 50% clause, we make £10.25m profit.
If we do pay the £9.5m buy out clause and sell him for £30m then we would make £11m profit.
8.) 27 Nov 2024 21:04:38
Wandering - NO!
Firstly you are confusing cash and profits
Secondly you are ignoring/don't understand amortisation.
Please find a friend who can explain football finances to you as I don't have the time or energy to keep this up!
9.) 27 Nov 2024 22:12:45
I do understand maths. We pay £9.5m We sell for £30m = £20.5m profit.
But as you say we leave the clause in place so that means we give £10.25m to Angers.
Or we pay Angers the £9.5m buy out fee so we have paid £9.5m for the player plus £9.5 to Angers so £19m in total. We sell for £30m so that means £11m profit.
Please explain what Amortisation is as I understand it to be the action or process of reducing or paying off a debt with regular payments.
So although we may be paying any transfer fee/buyout fee over a period of time, the bottom line is that we will still pay the asking/agreed price.
And before you try and insult me again by saying I should ask someone who understands, I have whereas you clearly haven't hence you thinking we lost £107m last year.
10.) 28 Nov 2024 07:19:11
Amortisation is a form of depreciation. The cost value of the asset is reduced for every year of a assets economic life. In the case of football players his contract. So if a player costs £10m and he initially signs a 4 year contract, his value on the books is reduced every year bt £2.5m and the reduced value is used against the sale value to calculate the profit. Also in the case of RAN, from what future appears to be saying, we would have to pay back 50% of the sales value, not the profit made. So if we sold for £30m we have to pay over £15m not £10m

Congratulations to Mario for having the armband handed to him. The perfect choice for captain in my opinion.
1.) 27 Jul 2024 08:36:45
In the latest training video believe one of the coaches was Mark Robson from West Ham who GON wanted last season.
Seen no news on this can anyone confirm.

If you can score 3 away from home but let in 5; it doesn't take a genius to see that attacking wise we're fine. Apparently it does take a genius though to see defensively we're not.
1.) 05 Oct 2024 21:17:25
Well said Pikey.needed saying mate
2.) 05 Oct 2024 22:35:10
Sadly it is v hard to argue with your view Pikey.
Nuno's pre Seville team would have won today at a canter because let's be honest Brentford aren't very good but we made them look like world beaters!
05 Oct 2024 14:25:47
So Van Dijk holds Guehi for a prolonged time and eventually pulls him back.no penalty. Semedo puts his arm on Jota's shoulder then his legs stop working, he falls to the ground and it's a penalty. Stinks of Top 6 bias.
1.) 05 Oct 2024 16:00:53
We just give stupid penalties away today's included, we have to admit our defence is a total shambles
28 Sep 2024 18:26:16
Bellegarde is not strong or fast enough to be playing on the wing. Every time he comes up against Trent he passes back. You'd think with Trent on a yellow card very early on we would have targeted him.
1.) 28 Sep 2024 19:36:21
Pikey it wasn't just bellegarde was it? The entire 'game play' was back and across, short goal kicks, throw ins, any chance of getting forward was slow and lacking. 2nd half we were sticking out legs and watching. Larsen persisted and we fortunately got back into a situation where, with some desire, we could have taken something.
We could blame tiredness, sickness or whatever you want but the style of play, I'm assuming GON's responsibility, was an insult to the fans, an embarrassment.
I'm so peed off I can't say anything more. Relegation seems a cert if we're going to carry on so naively.
Who wants to watch that week after week?
2.) 28 Sep 2024 19:43:54
I didn't mean to just point out Bellegarde, it was just that he was up against a defender on a yellow from 6 minutes and didn't force him into making a challenge. But I completely agree Abbey, the passing it around at the back is ridiculous because we're simply not Man City! As much as I respect GON for last season I'm afraid it's time to let someone else have a crack before it's too late.
3.) 28 Sep 2024 19:47:11
I actually feel more confident for the season after today’s result. Fairly even after the first half. Did well to hustle and get back in it and then sloppy by Semedo to gift them a second. Anyone thinking we would have it all out own way today is crazy. We put a shift in against a very very good side. We play like that we will start picking up wins.
4.) 28 Sep 2024 21:02:28
VaB I'm sorry but that was a very poor Liverpool out there. We started with some energy and will but it was getting worse as we went on and they were letting us off the hook. By the way I thought RAN did well against Salah, lemina superb until the energy went. Toti and santi and samedo were dealing quite well.
Johnstone a constant worry tho. Bellegarde didn't go as he can and larsen rarely looked for. Cunha too possessive, these aspects surely go back to GON and then training ground. We wernt direct when we could have been and weak when we dared. Then final 15 mins were a waste of time, hwang for larsen was pointless, forbes didn't get the ball quick enough.
The constant back passing, cross field balls on the 18yd line, so frustrating. OK I'll accepte tiredness, lemina was a broken man at the end, that's dogged us every game, but no ambition to get it forward when we're desperate is inexcusable. Time for a big rethink in the style of play is required or GON will have lost the fans.
5.) 28 Sep 2024 21:17:32
I suppose not watching it live every week is something I should be grateful for Abbey but this is getting past a joke now. I'm guessing the tactics are aligned to GON's realisation that his squad is not Premier League ready and may never be.
I hope you're right VaB I really do but 2 years ago we beat Liverpool 3-0 at the Molineux and I mean comprehensively outplayed them. It's took less than two years for our owners to completely pull the rug out to the extent that fans accept that we may not win a game for weeks, even months.
So where does everyone think Wolves will finish this season?
6.) 28 Sep 2024 22:54:27
We will probably finish about 14-16th to be honest. Fosun are happy with that. I am not, that’s for sure.
7.) 29 Sep 2024 07:23:03
The frustrating thing longmind, is that we can be so much better. On reflection we are abit demoralised at the moment and when that happens against a top team you fear the worst and don't see how you can threaten them. As a last night, you defend against losing by 3 or 4 instead of confidently chasing a equaliser/winner.
Get the heads up again (we looked a scared team walking out), get a victory and get on a roll and we xan climb into safety.
A positive result at Brentford is essential before the task of city if we are to shed the psychological battle. GON of course has his role and its time for him to be a little more reaffirming of our team. He's honest of course, but let's get bigging wolves up in the press interviews, "the lads gave everything" rhetoric should change, " we didn't do enough, we're better than that" etc. Still honest, but it would show that belief in the players and tell us improvements will come.
I was so so down last night, I'm slightly more hopeful now, 12th 13th again I'm afraid.
I suppose I should be saying ' yep we better than that, a top 10 definitely ', but then I'm honest too.
21 Sep 2024 17:40:17
Don't be surprised if a certain Sergio Conceicao starts getting banded around; available and represented by Uncle Jorge.
18 Sep 2024 20:31:48
It may sound simple but I honestly don't understand why we don't play 3-5-2? Johnstone-Mosquera-Dawson-Toti-Semedo-Gomes-Lemina-Andre-Ait Nouri-Laursen-Cunha. To me it seems that we get the defensive stability that we need and get the best attacking options that we have on the pitch at the same time?
1.) 18 Sep 2024 22:15:37
Snap - that is exactly the team I suggested in a post in reply to Rince now on Banter 2!
Bit conservative and possibly narrow - although Semedo and RAN can get forward with 3cbs and 3DMs
At least we won't be overrun and have a chance of getting a foothpld in a game and therefore some points.
Far from ideal but then the squad and situation isn't either!
18 Jun 2024 16:25:06
Apparently holding out for £50M. I'll drive him there myself for that!
15 May 2024 15:44:47
Seriously underrated player, with decent service he'll score goals.
23 Aug 2023 19:56:14
50M seems very cheap. If they include McAtee or Hodge in the deal, or even Palmer it would definitely be worth looking at.
04 Dec 2024 20:25:20
Must go tonight! Simply had enough of this.
02 Nov 2024 19:27:53
Sacked in the morning.
26 Oct 2024 22:48:22
To be fair Rated, it was never Dawson or Bueno that were the issue. It was Toti in a CB pair or RAN/Semedo at LB/RB.
26 Oct 2024 15:53:40
Sa number 1. The we really are in trouble, the guy can't even kick the ball out to one of our players.
06 Oct 2024 22:27:48
I tend to agree with you Rated. Maybe Cunha deserves a mention in this debate as well though. He always puts a shift in and definitely has the respect of his teammates.
