Makes me wonder if we had Cesar in last season instead of Edwards would we have gone down.
Just pondering that's all.

21 Sep 2026 03:07:18
Also wondering why Djiga, Munetsi, Bouba, Tommy and Hugo were all sent out on loan last season !!! 3 points off top with game in hand FWAW 🀭.

5

21 Sep 2026 07:29:10
Simple answer Preston is because none of those actually sent on loan were anywhere near good enough for the premier league. Need to remember we're now in a division below where most opponents are much inferior. Hugo was on loan the season before by the way.

Angel Gomes came off the bench yesterday and scored a wonder goal against PSG. Just saying.

Gomes was shocking bad for us although might have been ok in the champ.

Rated interesting question.
1 As pointed out by "Old" the team are playing at a much much lower level.
2 Several of the players as Preston pointed out - Fer Lopez as well by the way - were not with the side last year, (nor of course was Trippier, James or Raul - whilst only Gomes J who would strengthen the side has been lost).
But 3 Cesar does seem to have got them playing faster and with more verve.
Overall I suspect this side, playing as it is, would still have been relegated, (and badly), but I agree nothing like as abjectly as the side was last year.

However onwards and upwards.
I think there is still improvement to be made - chance conversion especially is low - but should improve once Raul is fully firing.
Plus surely in January if the side is looking likely to be promoted the club will be active in the market ahead of the summer window.
Signing the rough diamonds like Lankshear, Vitek, Ballard etc etc foolishly missed this summer that hopefully can be polished into Prem league players and one or two more experienced gems - Neves - although DM is not an obvious position to be strengthening - anyone?

Rated, I think the real damage was done in the summer 2025 transfer window. If Cesar had been appointed when VP was sacked, I think he would have given us a better chance of survival then under Rob. Who knows now, but if we had picked up points by Xmas 2025 maybe intelligent signings in the January transfer window might have made a difference? It would have been a poisoned chalice for Cesar, instead of the real opportunity he has now in the champ.

Can't change the past but Cesar has the ability to take us up as Nuno did in 2017/8.

21 Sep 2026 11:35:15
I think every position will need strengthening Future if we go up. Some more obvious than others of course. Most evident improvers so far this season are Djiga who is showing real promise after his disastrous early season start at Rangers and Lopez. If they continue on an upwards trajectory both could be real assets next season.

21 Sep 2026 12:41:20
Vitinha plays centre midfield at PSG, Goncalo Guedes came off the bench fir Real sociedad in the Europa league and transformed their play in the week. Fabio still not setting the world on fire in Germany. Makes me wonder if something at our club needs addressing or some of these players just didn't want to be there/attitude issues.

3

21 Sep 2026 13:22:51
Old at the moment Andre, Krejci and Lopez are, for me at least, def Prem class.
Djiga, Gomes, James and Mane might get there.
So I don't think every position needs upgrading but I agree.

Sa, Bueno and maybe one or two others might be squad players.
But 5 or 6 first team players are needed and maybe another 3 or 4 options.
Arddunby I strongly suspect you have a point.

And am I mispronouncing players names? The commentary was saying:
Gomesh for Gomes
Fer Lopeth for Fer Lopez
Djigoo for Djiga.

2

21 Sep 2026 01:03:49
There are some differing pronunciati, onsbecause fo national language differences. Famously Raul Jiminez, is pronounced 'himinez', GOMES CAN BE TRANSLATED AS gomesh, the x in the boss's name is pronounced 'h' or a 'sh'. PEIHOTO OR PEISHOTO. FER short for Fernando and lopez= lopeth, apparently Tommy Doyle is 'the lad' Oh and apparently FOSUN is actualy Fu Sin, so I'm told.

2

21 Sep 2026 10:00:34
Fo Sin - that's about right! πŸ˜‚
It's annoying that they also pronounce Jimenez as Himineth. Hate that ending. Reminds me of a 90s sketch show πŸ˜‚.

Most people, including Mikey Burrows pronounced Matt Doherty's name wrong for 15 years. hearing him say β€˜dowerty' used to drive me round the bend. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

For those that don't know it should be pronounced similar to the Scottish Docherty (as in Tommy) without sounding the hard β€˜c' but with a little emphasis on the β€˜h'.

I thought fosun was pronounced load of $#!@.

Cracking result. team effort outstanding their goalie saved them a drubbing but best of all not having to wait 5minutes for VAR to say you can celebrate even if the ref gets decision wrong because he's human it's so much more enjoyable.

5

20 Sep 2026 21:29:09
It was a great result KH, no doubt and it could have been more. West Brom seemed overwhelmed by CP's style of play but one thing is worth comment, Fer Lopez is some player who makes difficult chances look really easy, they're not. That little dink over an advancing keeper who already saved them on a number of occasions was sublime.

4

21 Sep 2026 06:09:28
A great team performance. As you say Long, the finish was sublime and hasn't received the plaudits deserved.
On big factor yesterday was having Trippier on the pitch. His leadership and ball distribution just raises the team.

Anyone know why Toti was allowed to come back on before the one minute was up? Notice the Tesco's people were not happy about something. Bad losers?

4

20 Sep 2026 17:59:13
Don't care, F. the Albion 😎.

9

20 Sep 2026 19:14:59
I assume because the medical team didn't actually come on to the field of play Doog.

2

20 Sep 2026 19:18:44
It was confusing, as Munetsi didn't leave the field after lengthy treatment in the first half. Did ref just lose the plot or is there a different rule for head injuries?

3

20 Sep 2026 23:51:28
Wolf I think Munetsi didn't have to leave because the WBA player was booked.
Toti I suspect was simply an error by the ref.

2

21 Sep 2026 10:03:08
Didn't think he had anything to do with their corner anyway as it was dealt with away from him πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ.

20 Sep 2026 17:13:58
I have to say this but without there goalkeeper Albion aren't that good.
He played really well in goal
& they have him to thank
For my prediction of 3-0 in my opinion would of been right.
Up the wolves.

20 Sep 2026 19:18:36
I watched against QPR the other week Moby, I didn't think either team were much to worry about, although the ease we snuffed em out today, morgan had one wild effort, was a treat.
Mind you I haven't seen Swansea yet.

4

20 Sep 2026 15:05:13
What's that noise.the silence of the moaners.

3

20 Sep 2026 17:02:38
Thought Don goodman talked us down too much in his match commentary.
The cream is beginning to rise to the top.

3

20 Sep 2026 17:34:48
Sevlow nah mate it's only your moaning I hear.

2

20 Sep 2026 17:43:37
Too many on here do not understand how strong our squad is. Possibly a striker short but otherwise an excellent squad.

2

20 Sep 2026 18:07:35
That's a brave post that is Sevlow especially for someone that once wrote:

29 Oct 2025 20:27:53
That's why Lopez does not play. Total lightweight.

SEVLOW1

We all have a moan and some moans age better than others do eh mate! πŸ€£πŸ‘.

5

20 Sep 2026 22:21:12
Fair enough on that one.

1

20 Sep 2026 22:46:47
We must keep lopez come January window. Premier club's will be sniffing simply cannot cash in on that kid.

2

21 Sep 2026 00:00:20
Sev you're one to talk pal the same guy who claims people don't know about rumours, also didn't you write of Lopez too?
Prob best not to throw stones mate.
Enjoy the fact we've shut them lot up down the road.

Excellent performance today, can't really pick out anyone for a bad game, even Toti played well, surely has to be due to CP, onwards and upwards πŸ€žπŸ‘.

5

20 Sep 2026 15:34:15
Score doesn't reflect Wolves superiority.
Tripper is just class.

7

20 Sep 2026 16:16:52
Great win against a form side. All areas looked much more cohesive and understanding each other. Bound to be nervy at the back at only 1-0 at the end against a team that has scored in every game. Our game plan stopped them playing their natural style and shows we are developing well.

Slightly worried when we went defensive with still 20 mins to play, but defended well enough to even break out a few times. Looking a good side, and it is so good to be winning a few and playing well after the last 3 years.

3

20 Sep 2026 14:17:47
I did not see the game, but will watch later on replay. To all the pessimists on the site, is this a respectable win since it was against a higher placed, better quality team? I'd love to hear those thoughts now that we toughed out another tight win and a clean sheet.

0

20 Sep 2026 15:11:03
We dominated. Shoulda been out of sight by the time Lopez scored. Very composed their keeper made 2 word class save.

The players looked like they wanted it in particular Andre and also Fer Lopez who was fuming that he was taken off - I agree he should have stayed on but I'll take the better judgement of Peixoto. and of course the three massive pts

Impressive.

6

20 Sep 2026 17:52:08
Well we've currently played 3 of the top 7 picking up full points against Stoke and Albion but getting beaten at West Ham, Boro next will be another strong test. Early to say if we're the real deal yet, but certainly a really promising start.

2

21 Sep 2026 08:52:49
Better quality team NJ? What!

0

20 Sep 2026 14:02:49
A really good performance
Good all round effort
Should of had more goals.
But what a win against baggies.
Reckon on this performance we should beat Middlesbrough or a draw will do.

3

20 Sep 2026 14:32:29
To be honest moby, if can consistently perform with that intent we needn't worry over anyone. Bar the wonder performance of o'leary we'd be celebrating a 4/5-0 victory. I'd like to see more 'direct' threats on goal, maybe raul and the young lad from Newcastle can provide that in time?
Nerves still rattled at the back, despite great performances from toti and dieja today, the confusion with Sa and toti at the end showed that, but I think trips has a guiding influence back there now to some degree.
Andre was immense, someone who I thought may have lost his cool was admirably restrained.

Rodrigo and Mane, particularly first half were dominating, although be it tiredness and concentration wearying, the second not as much.
Fer seemed much more alert second, and his speed of thought getting the goal showed that. His celebrating and his disappointment in being subbed I think underlines his attachment to us.
Which brings me to one Ruben Neves, and was it Seiss next to him? So good to see him back at the mol enjoying the win.
Great day, sets us up for the break, game in hand one win from top spot.

5

20 Sep 2026 14:34:04
Molby one of the best 90mins Wolves have played in a long time. Could or should have been at least 2 or 3 nil up at HT WBs goalie had a blinder. If to moan Trippiers passing was way of gave the ball away 4 or 5 times but just came back so can forgive.

Second Andre needs to calm down how many freekicks did the guy give away. But overall bloody brilliant performance and great win.

2

20 Sep 2026 15:38:15
Slick performance today, quick passing and losing down. On another day 3 up by half time. Their goalkeeper was outstanding. However, a nervey finish, that wolves for you. Lopez and djiga are too totally different players today, maybe mismanaged previously. Toti's best game in a wolves shirt for sometime. Nobody will convince me that Armstrong, can play the out and out striker role for us.

Neave looked good when he came on, if only for his nuisance value, but will be a good acquisition for the season, and who knows permanently. Munetsi played well again, but is a booking waiting to happen, as is Andre. I think we have the depth of squad now, but an out and out striker in the next window. Onward and upward. Wolves aye we.

2

21 Sep 2026 11:11:32
I agree with your comment about Armstrong, lots of pundits keep saying he will score lots of goals in the Championship-1 so far this season. Centre forwards should also worry defenders-I don't think the Bogies defenders knew he was on the pitch.
