Saudi Arabia's public investment fund (PIF) is rumoured to be scaling back foreign investment in the LIV golf league and football, in favour of domestic priorities. Potentially bad news for Newcastle, which seems to be a repeat of China's block on foreign investment in football a few years ago, and we know where that led to at Wolves.

I expect an exodus of top players at Newcastle this summer and battling relegation next season.

If we do lose and are relegated this weekend, I hope Rob doesn’t come out and is all smiles for the post match interview. In my opinion, this does him no favours. When we lose and play poorly, I think he should come out and be annoyed and really disappointed, not smiling and laughing.


Maybe it is just me, but I don’t like it. Whatever all of our thoughts are on Rob and his abilities, I think he is here for the foreseeable.

Maybe they will surprise us and beat Leeds. Can't see it though, unfortunately.
Think the players are done now unless Rob can somehow motivate them.


In saying this, they should want to play well to achieve a better move in the summer.
Does anyone have any confidence in the planning that is going on behind the scenes for next season?

He should call out the players who play poorly. They ain't going to show any loyalty to Wolves, so why should the club show any to them if they are angling for a move?

Again the famous Old Gold are inexplicably making what could be the nail in our Premiership coffin in the teal change shirts, or 2nd strip as it's now called.
Obviously not a clash of colour in any way against the white kit of Leeds.
So, are we contractually obliged to change shirts for an amount of games? Have we a stack of unsold teal shirts to sell?
Does anyone on here know why?

It really bugs me, as it just seems to reduce our identity and lose our history. All the more ironic with our 150th anniversary coming up, and with reference to how players may or may not perform tomorrow, how does a player form an allegiance to a club when he's paraded in a selection of different colours whilst he is here.

It's my age and modern times, but the thought of Billy Wright etc turning out in teals, Brazilian blues etc., without need, is just laughable.

If and when we're down, planning should be about getting the club back, getting players to identify with our history and fan base, getting players to be proud to play for Wolverhampton Wanderers, proud to wear the Old Gold.

Next season's team is it stands: Johnstone, Lima, Toti, Djiga, Mosquera, Hugo, Traore, Doyle, Munetsi, Armstrong, Sasa.

Sa, Santi, Krejci, Wolfe, Jackson, Andre, Joao, Bellegarde, Tolu, Rodrigo, Mane, Lopez will all go over the summer.

Agree good with all except Mosquera and Hugo, they will both be off, munetsi has already said he wants to stay in France so I don't think he will be coming back either.
What it all boils down to is a massive massive rebuild effectively the whole starting 11 apart from Armstrong as I'm not 100 percent Johnstone will be with us.

I think/hope Toti will be moved on due to his high wages. I doubt Djiga will want to come back from Rangers tbh, and I am not sure who would want Jackson based on performances.

Santi, Krejci, Mosquera, Hugo and Rodrigo will stay, but I know that's optimistic. Also, not sure Mane will go, as he's still too raw for most prem teams to want him.



As for anyone else, I can see Lonwijk getting in the squad as he is doing well at Luton. I fear Hoover will be back with us as he is hardly pulling up trees at Sheff Utd. There are not many youth players out on loan that are impressing, other than maybe Pond, but I feel another loan would be best for him.

Goatmark 1, looking at various sources on the Internet, it seems that Rangers are contributing £39k per week of Djiga's salary whilst Wolves pay the remaining £31k.

That means he's on £70k per week.

Rangers won't sign him because they can't afford all of his wages.

So even when he takes the salary reduction, he'll still be paid £52.5k a week in the Championship.

Interesting points made by Pagham Wolf. I don't dispute Rob's love for the club. That's not enough if our Chinese owners don't share that love. But, how can they? How did they not recognise that Nuno had that love? To them we are just a minor holding in the very diversified Fosun empire. Nothing in that Fosun empire suggests any knowledge of English football and none whatsoever of Wolverhampton. We're just a remote overseas investment that's proving to be financially disappointing to them.

Realistically for a club of our size we need the sort of close-knit owners that Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth etc have. Spurs have suffered for the same reasons as us, there is just not the passion by the Spurs owners for the club.

I get all that, Deep, and generally agree with the premise. However, it's two different debates: one about Foau (which we can't change), and one about Rob, which the club certainly could change!
Sorry, Pag, mate, but I also don't think it's realistic/fair to just cherry pick a handful of games when he had a good month and use that as proof of concept/ability. For more context, try looking up worst 10 Prem managers of all time; our man Rob is number 4 with his Luton team on 0.68ppm! Now, before anyone says it, yes, his Luton team were poor, but going off his current performance he'd still be 7th on that list this season (0.74 ppm)!
Again, for context, Mick McCarthy is 10th on that list, so in Rob's two stints he's done significantly worse than Mick did in his last season here.

Now look at this squad, can anyone REALLY tell me it's worse than the dross Mick had to play with?! Mick had Karl Henry while Rob has Gomes and Andre for goodness sake! I like Edwards, but he's learning his trade, and, like I said before he came, the entire circus that this club has become just feels too much, too soon!
Are Fosun poor? Of course they are, but is that about to change? Unlikely. Therefore, we have to find someone to play the hand we currently have, and for me Rob just isn't cutting the mustard right now, I'm afraid. 👍

With the greatest respect for anyone who doesn't agree (we are all Wolves fans and all want the best for our club), can I ask for a little perspective from those among us who have genuine doubts about Rob and his ability to bring us back up next season?

It's all too easy to forget the mess he inherited when he arrived and there has been genuine progress. I didn't think for one moment he'd be able to keep us up because not even Pep at his best could have done that, but I wanted evidence that he could improve the players he had and, more importantly, to see the injection of a bit of team spirit to knit together a fractured unit that was chronically underperforming.

He was never going to hit the ground running but (poor errors in the second half against West Ham notwithstanding) there has been a definite improvement. The Premier League table for the last six games gives clear evidence of this with Wolves in 12th position and ahead of Brentford, Forest, Leeds, Newcastle, Villa and Chelsea. That's not progress? From those 6 matches we've taken 8 points which would put us on 50 points or so over a whole season. In fact, we're only 2 points behind Liverpool in 4th.To me that looks like significant progress after the inordinate amount of time it took us to get off two points.

Rob may not have been the first choice for any of us but for me there are enough glimpses of what he might achieve, given time and the right backing from Fosun, for me to be optimistic about the future. I'm tired of welcoming new managers who talk the talk but then can't even crawl the walk. I'd rather show a bit of loyalty and see where it gets us.

As I said, I'm sure not everyone will feel the same way but just wanted to stand up for the guy. Whatever else might be thrown at him, I don't think anyone would seriously doubt his love for the club.The unrestrained celebrations after the Arsenal, Villa and Liverpool results say it all.

PaghamWolf. Good question, but partly answered by yourself. 'The right backing from Fosun.' I'm not convinced Rob Edwards will get that, as we need a complete overhaul of the current squad. As Ron Moore posted, we've barely got a team to compete in the Championship once we lose our remaining 'better players'. Gomes, Andre, Sa, etc. I just don't think Fosun have the drive, ambition, or even interest anymore to drive us forward, & we'll be looking for another manager again if we get a poor start to next year's campaign.

I can honestly see maybe up to 3 new signings in the summer to try and appease us after the expected fire sale, then tell Rob to make do with players who will be returning from their loans. Doyle, Traore, etc. Not sure any of these are good enough for a promotion push.

Blackfords has summarised it for me, Pagham. Does it really matter who the manager is or what his talents are if the owners won't spend adequately on the team?
We've been dragged down into decline for the last six years now by Fosun, each season taking us lower and lower, so I suppose it boils down to: do we really believe things will change going forward?
The only way your belief in RE can be ratified is if Fosun shock us all and build a strong squad to achieve promotion first time.

Without that, he or anyone else will be royally screwed. My fear is that he will be too willing to accept the hand he's dealt.

No sorry. He's not good enough & it is no good taking one step forward & 2 back. His team selection & subs are hit & miss just like he did at luton. His tactics are not pro active. West ham are possibly worse than us but they absolutely trounced us & his body language at 2 nil down wasn't of a leader. If he continues till end of season with this team selection.

subs & tactics there's a good chance we won't pick up another point. Against West ham he decided to get crosses into the box but it was to 2 shorter players. Tolu started to play well before the break & scored a couple but he left him out. sorry but for me he's not taking us anywhere.

As others have suggested, Rob Edwards may or may not be good enough, but we'll never know unless the hierarchy backs him. They did that when Nuno 1st arrived, but when they changed tact, the decline started.

He knew the score when he took over.
He knew he could not keep us up.
But he still took on the job.
It's obvious Fosun have told him he will be in charge in the Championship.
And maybe they told him they would back him to the hilt, or why would he take it.


Unless he's thick.
Maybe Fosun want a trophy next season.
And see it as the Championship.
He must admit most of the team are going.
So God knows who we would be getting.
Only hope is getting big fees for whoever goes.
The buying wisely.

Rob Edwards, maybe at Wolves, enjoys being the manager of Wolves and maybe that enjoyment, knowing he's not seriously under threat, has tempered his style, man-management wise. He seems too content.
Next season, who knows what players and team we'll have? But no matter what, with Fosun's full financial backing or not, he'll have the form to mould and construct a winning, fighting and ambitious team.

Personally, I can't see him doing that.
If he isn't the right man, I can see us wasting 5-6 games (up to 18 points) before Fosun are willing to consider things, and our season seriously impaired from the start again.
I hope I'm proved wrong, and I will wish Rob Edwards the very best. He's a nice guy with a good heart, it'd seem. Maybe that's one of his shortcomings, aside from tactical decisions.

Well, if Edwards was specifically brought in ready for next season in the Championship, hopefully the recruitment team have been working overtime over the last few weeks and players are identified, and contact made. I understand that this couldn't necessarily be done in January as there were too many variables. However, now that each table is taking its final shape, conversations should be had with potential targets/agents to see if they are willing to move and the club strike as soon as possible.

Likewise, those looking to move away can do so sooner rather than later to give Rob the best chance possible.

I admit that I'm not Rob's biggest fan, but whilst he's our manager, I'll back him 100%.

Goodwhile - We only have one Championship player, two if you count Doyle, none of our multi Nationals signed to play in the Championship and all were signed with the intention of selling for profit, there's absolutely no basis to think we'll be in any position to mount a promotion challenge, Fosun won't halt the slide that's been five seasons in the making, they don't know how, if they don't leave soon the Club will be looking to the lower Leagues not the Premiership.
