I'm reading that we have seven Wolves players at World Cup. Add to that number any internationals who haven't been selected for the World Cup, and you would wonder why we are now in the Championship!

The average Shirt Sponsorship deal for a Championship team is worth approx £2.5m to £5m.
Wolves new deal with Midnite is worth £1.5m.
03 Jun 2026 15:23:49
Is it a short term deal? Might be one year only.
03 Jun 2026 16:03:42
It is only a 1 year deal, but still below the average.
03 Jun 2026 16:41:04
What's your source? Best I could find says the average is between 0.5 - 2.5mil. So it sounds about right to me. You also need to consider the value is affected by the size of the fan base, etc., so, unlike what some think, we aren't the biggest club in the Champ. Or maybe our fans are a bit tighter with their cash, so less value for the sponsors.
It just seems like more criticism for the sake of it than any actual truth that we aren't getting the best deals we can.
My only gripe is that it's with another gambling company, not necessarily because they are preying on the weak-willed, more just because there are so many and it's all a bit boring. Although I suppose Midnite is aesthetically better than Debet, or W88 etc.
03 Jun 2026 17:11:00
I thought Midnite was a computer game. Hopefully, the one-year deal says that Wolves are getting promoted at the first time of asking.
Promotion will bring a three-year £300 million sponsorship deal with Starlink.
03 Jun 2026 17:19:49
Could be, Ice. I thought it was the one with the weird adverts of people with veins pulsing in their heads.
03 Jun 2026 17:48:00
I read it online earlier.
The article has been altered since I read it earlier, but I've cut and pasted what I could find:
Following Wolves' recent relegation from the Premier League, their commercial leverage for a front-of-shirt sponsor naturally adjusted to Championship market rates.
The Step Down: For context, Wolves' previous Premier League front-of-shirt deal with Debet (signed in 2024) was worth just under £10 million per year.
Championship front-of-shirt sponsorships for clubs pushing for promotion typically command between £1.5 million and £4 million per year, depending on bonus structures for securing promotion back to the top flight.

Really hoping that we adopt a good mix of youth and experience in the team. Trippier, I feel, is a really good signing - also feel another experienced midfielder would be good in the centre of the park. In terms of defenders, and more on the youth side, I think that Max Alleyne from Man City would be superb.
Was on loan at Watford for a bit last season in the champ and was top class; think he would add real quality to our back line, and homegrown as well. Would also love Anthony Patterson as our new number 1 - be interesting to see how the transfer window pans out. FWAW.
03 Jun 2026 19:04:09
Good shout on Alleyne, he was fantastic for Watford last year. Could we get a deal with the fee agreed on promotion (unlikely), but it would be a real coup if they could.
I've not seen Patterson play, is he actually any good?
03 Jun 2026 13:15:04
Just re-watched the 'Every Ruben Neves Goal' compilation whilst reflecting on what a privilege it was to watch him play. A class act on and off the pitch.
Will we see the likes of him ever again?
03 Jun 2026 14:31:04
Very true, Long, Neves was a class act in every way. He and Moutinho, in the middle of the park, were poetry in motion.
If Wolves get promoted back to the Prem, he might rejoin the club. He doesn't exactly need to chase money anymore, and he loves Wolves to his core.
03 Jun 2026 10:31:36
I love Saiiss. The first time his passion was awsome and he play cb but how good has he been latley. Hes getting on and along with Santi at the back whos good but has no pace. We might struggle. I think we need a younger fitting in there.
03 Jun 2026 11:33:08
I have to agree Simon, sadly it would seem that some fans are far to fixated on nostalgia and not enough on the realities of where we find ourselves today! The Champ is a seriously competitive league and these posts suggesting 'getting the band back together' whilst pleasant show a complete lack of respect for the league we are headed to!
I loved Saiss first time around, but when he left he was already showing that he'd lost a yard of pace and that was when he was 33! He's now 36 and has spent the last two season playing in a Saudi league which frankly (for the most part) is below League One level and he's managed just 11 games over two seasons!
I have similar concerns with Raul, who again was fantastic first time round but is also 36 and I suspect would be expecting one of the higher wages at the club. Which is fine if he's starting every game but he hasn't done that since he's moved to Fulham (last season he was mostly used as an impact sub) so suddenly starting 46 games seems like a stretch for me.
Also with this there is a very real danger of filling the squad with 35+ aged players on big wages which can then potentially become a burden if injured or we don't get promoted.
Don't get me wrong I think Trippier is a quality signing, but as others have said we need to consider the Brighton model. That means having one or two (top) older players that can lead the dressing room and wear the armband, for which Trippier is perfect. But it should realistically be one or two players, if you start filling the squad with them it can become a very real issue! Just ask Jack Hayward, who for all his good intentions presided over the now infamous 'Golden Tit' era! Experience is great and we need some, but we also need to create a new squad and move forward and we won't do that as a club by offering high wages to players well past their best simply because they remind of a bygone era when Fosun actually cared for and ran this club properly!
If Nathan is truly serious about righting wrongs then he needs to assemble a squad that can make their own history, not chase the past of Jeff's now sullied history! 👍🐺
03 Jun 2026 13:11:47
Wolves need players like Saiss, Raul, and Trippier. We need solid, experienced players who have ability and will turn their guts out for the Wolves. We've had too many chancers and plonkers at the club. Dreamers who think they're talented, leaders, or whatever else they think themselves to be.
Half the players who've been wearing a Wolves shirt over the past few seasons aren't worth a tripe supper.
Wolves also need experienced players of substance to help players like Mane, and other young, talented players that Wolves sign.
03 Jun 2026 19:08:50
Again, though, do we really need a player that didn't make the team for even a third of the matches in the Qatar Star League last year (Saiss)? Playing your guts out is great, but it doesn't mean much if you're not actually up to the standard of the league you're being paid to play in.
03 Jun 2026 03:14:56
Likes of Sa, Krejic etc wanting to leave just showing us all the cowards they really are.
03 Jun 2026 09:48:48
It's the inevitable cost of relegation, Rated. However, this squad desperately needs a good clear-out, so let's wait and see how good the recruitment is.
It seems to have started quite well, and don't forget, some of these players have potential international careers to consider.
It's just a pity that, collectively, or individually in some cases, they weren't good enough for the Prem.
Personally, I think the responsibility for that lies with the former management and our owners, so let's hope they truly have repented.
03 Jun 2026 09:59:49
It's the usual case. A collective of players get relegated; individually, some think they're better than they are. I would never blame a player for lacking quality if they try. There were a few of those last season.
But ultimately, a lack of seasoned, experienced players in the squad with Premier League quality is why relegation happened, as the bad start was always going to be a hill too high to climb come January.
03 Jun 2026 11:16:54
At the end of the day, a life in football is relatively short in the amount of time that you have to play before age catches up with you. For some players, they want to be playing at the house level for as long as possible, or moving to better teams if they can, in order to try and win a competition here or there, and, as we've seen more often than not, to try and earn as much money as possible, especially if they have a family to try and give them a great life.
As mentioned before, in our case, however, it is better to have a clear out, because things need to change, and a new freshness needs to be brought into the club.
03 Jun 2026 12:27:02
In this past season the chickens finally came home to roost. We all could see that coming, except Jeff (also known to me as Mr Magoo). A massive clear out was necessary, and thankfully, Jeff's head was first on the block.
I'd sooner Rob went as well, but he's a lucky boy to survive. Rob now has a second chance to prove himself. If he doesn't turn things around quickly, he will be toast.
03 Jun 2026 13:05:17
VB_Wolf, you wanna watch yourself talking about footballers' careers sensibly, there's no room for talk like that in football fandom!
02 Jun 2026 19:27:18
Sa doesn’t want to play in the Championship. Good riddance. Wolves need a huge clear out to get rid of the gutless playboys who’ve played a massive part in sinking HMS Wolves.
People arguing for Tolu to play in the Championship, 100% Wolves will try their best to dump him. Raul Jimenez at 35 is a better player than Tolu will ever be.
02 Jun 2026 21:58:03
Tolu is possibly the worst striker I've ever seen at the club. And I've seen Cedric Roussel, Sami Al Jabbar and Tomasz Frankowski.
03 Jun 2026 07:39:18
Nice list. Good, but you clearly didn't see Ray Hankin!
03 Jun 2026 10:03:17
I'll see your Ray Hankin, Old, and I'll raise you Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson, 10 goals in 4 years at the club.
03 Jun 2026 10:33:12
U missed Fabio Silva out.
03 Jun 2026 13:32:25
Robert Taylor, 1.5 million from Man City in 2000, took some beating: 12 appearances, 0 goals, and only scored twice in the next 12 years for any club.
03 Jun 2026 15:30:25
I'll agree with you, Ard. Without checking the history books or taxing my brain too much, Robert Taylor is the worst striker I've seen at Wolves. The damn blaggard would have been too expensive at £150.00.
01 Jun 2026 13:18:39
I'm a bit confused on Wolves striker search. Armstrong is there. Tolu has said he wants to help get Wolves back in PL. Wolves are being linked with Simms of Coventry, report by John Percy of the Telegraph, plus Wolves considering bringing back Jiminez. Plus, by all accounts, Wolves are still chasing Che Adams. If you had a pick, who would you choose.
01 Jun 2026 14:14:06
Anyone but Armstrong, Adams or Tolu.
01 Jun 2026 15:12:42
Raul by a country mile at Championship level, and he doesn't miss penalties.
01 Jun 2026 15:16:52
You need to get into the box to get a penalty. So won't make a difference.
01 Jun 2026 15:23:54
Raul and Simms for me.
01 Jun 2026 15:25:29
Who would you choose between Tolu or Sasha?
01 Jun 2026 15:49:32
Armstrong will be fine in the Championship - it's the Premier League he's not good enough for. If Raul came back, it would be amazing. He has a couple of years left in him yet. Sasa is a good player if he can keep fit.
Tolu deserves a change next season if he can show he'll work hard, or if there are no reasonable offers to move him on. Simms would be a good signing, but I'm surprised Coventry are willing to let him go.
01 Jun 2026 16:15:50
Don't know if you've watched Armstrong and Tolu much, AcleWolf, but I haven't seen a lot to convince me, even the Baggies couldn't get rid of. Armstrong quick enough.
01 Jun 2026 17:04:36
Armstrong will score goals in the Championship. I'd put my left nut on at least 20 goals and 10 assists across all competitions. Raul as the big man to complement him. Ideally, Wolves need one young striker as back up, and a forward who can do a bit of everything. Possibly the jack of all trades forward will be Mane.
Tolu, Sasa and Hwang need/want to go.
Tolu is lazy and will too often be a hindrance. No good giving fans your drinking tea celebration when you did SFA in the previous five games.
Armstrong scores and it's "right boys, stop poncing about and get on with the game."
Sasa is made of glass and wants to leave Wolves. Apparently his missus hates the area. Hwang doesn't offer enough. He too often goes missing. He's also probably had enough of being the hate figure at Wolves. His commercial value will get him a decent move.
01 Jun 2026 17:17:04
I'd get some protection for that left nut zephyr
01 Jun 2026 21:40:51
Watched both of them, B Hill - Armstrong has been around since his Blackburn days. He's a reasonable Championship player, but nothing more. Good enough to hopefully grab a number of goals for us in a league he has a lot of experience in. Also, you can't judge a player solely on one club. Some players fall off a cliff under certain managers, and at certain clubs, sometimes it doesn't work out.
He did well at Coventry in the lower leagues at the time, Blackburn and Southampton in the Championship.
Tolu, I've only seen him at Wolves. He's not handled the step up to the Premier League. Usually I'd reserve judgement for another 12 months, as players sometimes come good, but his work rate concerns me. If he isn't willing to work, he's no good despite it being a step back down next season.
02 Jun 2026 09:30:07
If Tolu could head the ball on target, if he could kick the ball on target, he'd be OK. Armstrong does alot unnoticed imo, and with a working understanding alongside Raul will be OK.
Raul and Armstrong aren't necessarily 40+ game players, so we need a back up.
I can't see Tolu or Sasa as answers.
Adams, possibly, but only at a decent wage.
Simms, I've liked what little I've seen with Cov.
02 Jun 2026 11:45:50
Writing us off already bux??? Let's see what happens, but I'll not write us off in June. Of course, even if we get the good players, Edwards still has to make them click & that is my concern.
02 Jun 2026 13:27:35
So Abbey, u just realised Tolu can't do his job, well done, he couldn't hit a barn door from 2 yards, he is awful.
02 Jun 2026 15:46:17
I'm sorry, but has Tolu not scored for us? You can question his attitude or his willingness to run around, but saying he can't hit a barn door is just rubbish. His record in Belgium and the quality of the finish on a couple of goals for us prove that.
At Championship level, he'll be fine. But, given that he and Armstrong are likely to be our only out-and-out strikers still here, and you need more than 2 for the long Championship season, links to at least 2 more make sense.
02 Jun 2026 16:32:12
Tolu has scored 3 goals in 33 games, for context here that's as many as Santi Bueno scored in just 29 games! So, by that token, we can just start Beuno up front, can we?!
Tolu may well score goals in the Champ, only time will tell, but he has been woefully average this season, and scoring a meagre 3 goals doesn't change that. My bigger concern is, if he is fighting with team mates (as previously reported), only the club will know the truth of how that played out, but if he is at fault, then he needs to go.
We need a united team this season, and that means everyone getting along. Fighting in the dressing room exemplifies a club in distress; it's what was the beginning of the end for Gon. Edwards needs to make sure it's not happening again this season, else he will end up the same way as Gon did.
02 Jun 2026 19:38:47
Raul should stay away from Wolves. Too many fans who will criticize him if he isn't prime 'Raul'. A lot of nasty Wolves fans. Just read the comments here. People have been predicting relegation for the last 6 or 7 years.
02 Jun 2026 19:52:55
Never go back. That's the rule. Raul is past his best. The champ is tougher than the prem, so I'd look elsewhere. Tolu might cut it in the champ. Armstrong hadn't scored in his last dozen games before coming to us. 2 proven, 20-goal-a-season strikers are needed to get out of the champ, along with goals from midfield.
Who do we have capable of that? Nobody.
Lack of goals and creativity from midfield areas, poor finishing from fwd positions. Without quality transfers in, nothing will change.
02 Jun 2026 20:34:47
Raul would never face criticism from any true Wolves fan. Not in a million years. Aside from Bull, he's the best striker I've seen at Wolves. He also received a life-threatening injury playing for the club. He's a God as far as I'm concerned.
He has more than enough quality to boss the Championship.
02 Jun 2026 21:00:47
I'm a never go back regarding Nuno, but Raul is different. His very presence would bring hope and confidence back to the club and fans, and it'd lift us all before the new season.
He may not feature that often on pitch, but he'd still be there, and after Lopetegui, I think he still has some unfinished business to give us.
02 Jun 2026 22:25:29
You must not have seen John Richards play then, Ice Ice Wolf.
03 Jun 2026 07:46:23
They're as rare as hen's teeth, Bux, and you say we need to get 2 proven twenty goal a session strikers. So does every other club on this planet. Unfortunately, we're not living in cloud cuckoo land.
