The papers are back with Isco talk of joining us. Plus Bentley due to take his medical.

McKennie, a player I like, being offered to teams including Villa.

Thoughts Guys?

GDawg14

1.) 25 Jan 2023 15:29:00
GDawg14 Mckennie looked good for USA in the world cup but how many MF do we need but he would be an upgrade. If we sell Nunes in the summer I'd definitely go for Mckennie as I see it Neves Mountihno and may be Nunes might all leave so could have some cash to spend.

2.) 25 Jan 2023 16:08:50
Not sure about the Isco one GDawg because if Gomes does join that would be 7 signings plus Wolves allegedly still want a RB and a striker, making it potentially 9.

I know that JL will be looking to start the rebuild early in preparation for those leaving in the summer but these must represent a big increase in the wage bill let alone the amortised transfer fees added to the bottom line. Maybe it's an indicator of how many will be leaving in the summer. I'm guessing Neves, Mouts, Adama, Jonny, Raul, Costa and possibly Guedes and Hoever.

McKennie is a good player, but probably linked to Villa due to their US owners.

3.) 26 Jan 2023 06:20:13
Apparently McKinnie has agreed personal terms with Leeds, clubs have yet to agree a fee.

18 Jan 2023 22:25:56
Reports are Conor Ronsn potentially off to MLS to play with Jack Price.

GDawg14

15 Jan 2023 21:13:53
Romano suggesting we might still be in the running for Aaron Wan-Bissaka as they have an interest in a Celtic RB despite his recent form.

I'd be happy with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Semedo competing for RB. Kilman, Collins and Souttar competing for CB and Bueno and Rayan competing for LB. Knowing Toti, Dexter, Yerson and Dion are developing.

Then we can sell Jonny and move Ki-Jana along.

That's my defensive best case scenario.

GDawg14

1.) 15 Jan 2023 21:44:16
GDawg - good post. Would require a fair bit in fees to be paid and I would guess AWB will be on big money but Otto and Hoever being moved on may balance out to some extent - well probably only on wages as I doubt we would get anything for either of our two departees.
ps think Bolla def has a future as well and Giles and maybe even Marques shouldn't be written off.

2.) 15 Jan 2023 22:38:57
Lopetegui has a history with Jonny so I think he might stay.

3.) 15 Jan 2023 23:14:11
Thanks future.

I'd think we could get something for Jonny. Nothing substantial mind.

I'd forgotten about Bolla and Marques. I was going to add Giles but looks like Boro use him more of a midfielder now than a defender.

The academy looks healthy in defence too with Matheson, Tipton, Pond, Richards so something could come good out of there in the coming years. We need homegrown players in the squad.

I quite liked the look of Ivan Fresneda we were linked to but I think that was purely in the clickbaits.

4.) 16 Jan 2023 04:35:17
Don't forget we have Dexter Lembixta who gave a good account if himself against Liverpool in the cup game.

I think Liverpool caught us with our pants down regarding Ki-Jan Hoever.

5.) 16 Jan 2023 05:29:01
We also have Lonwijk at Plymouth who's having a good season. Another one for the future.

6.) 16 Jan 2023 06:33:36
Apologies, you did mention Dexter Lembixta.

My Ki-Jan Hoever comment still stands.

7.) 16 Jan 2023 07:03:50
I think Liverpool had our pants down twice here. once with Ki-Jana and second with the extremely slow payment plan for Jota in the same week.

04 Jan 2023 21:30:05
Manchester United Twitter pages talking about Wan Bisakka and Wolves again. or Wolves and Palace.

Previous mentions of West Ham have been dropped.

GDawg14

29 Dec 2022 21:46:53
More links to Harry Souttar being reported again. I wondered when his name would crop back up.

Just a thought. I know he was playing for Australia but believe he is British born. Would he be classed as a HG player? If so would make him a more attractive proposition.

GDawg14

1.) 30 Dec 2022 08:05:06
Also Roland Sallai and Maximo Peroni, the former a 25 year old Hungarian international winger, the latter a 19 year old midfielder.

Lopetegui did say some of the targets are not first team ready at the moment.

2.) 30 Dec 2022 09:13:18
Is it just me or is it when the clickbait sites link Wolves with a player they’ll automatically link West Ham and / or Everton?

Read an absolute corker this morning linking Adama Traore with a move away from Wolves. The headline is “Wolves: £46k-a-week star ‘will still be leaving’ Molineux” then (and this is where it gets hilariously bad) the main body of the subject said “I think Adama Traore will still be leaving Wolves. I just can’t tell right now if that’s going to be in January or at the end of the season.”

The journalistic might of Caleb Sage and Dean Jones is a thing to behold (Jones / O’Rourke are regularly quoted by the clickbait sites and its is generally their opinions, never facts, dressed up as a story)

3.) 30 Dec 2022 09:52:22
Debbie, funny you've mentioned Dean Jones because his comments, predictions and stories in general are nothing more than guesswork.

Typical clickbait approach a 'factual' headline followed by an opinion or a could/should transfer suggestion. I'm at the point now where I ignore him.

4.) 30 Dec 2022 10:38:50
Nobody answered whether Souttar would be classed as home grown lol.

5.) 30 Dec 2022 11:56:13
Good call GDawg14! He was developed in Scotland / England so it could be argued he is homegrown (Matt Doherty would be a good comparison)

6.) 30 Dec 2022 15:01:24
GDawg-good question, looking at his career I would guess not. We had this convo before regarding Matt Doherty, who did not qualify as homegrown (despite us signing him at 18). The reason for Doherty and I suspect Souttar as well is that early in their career (before three years at the club) they went on loan to Scotland (I beleieve it has to be English or Welsh clubs to qualify). All of this is guess work mind and I could be entirely wrong. But I remember the convo on here as we were all confused as to why Matt Doherty was not a home grown player, looking at both their back grounds Souttar looks a similar case. Good question though ?

7.) 30 Dec 2022 17:04:11
Isn’t homegrown classed as the UK and ROI? Doherty was on loan at Hibs (as I recall)

8.) 30 Dec 2022 17:20:09
LMW - Surprised if Lopetegui is buying for the future in this window. Surely, he won't have unlimited cash, and we need players in now who can be ready and contribute from DAY1.
Time to buy for the future is if/when we stay up this season, and then the summer window.
There will never be enough cash for us fans of Wolves until we are where wed all love to be (even then!), and if all goes we well and we stay Prem, then I'm sure there will still be pressure and priority in the summer window to improve the actual first team squad.

9.) 30 Dec 2022 19:13:03
RolloWolf, I think most will be capable of playing now, certainly the ones they sign early in the window, but he did say some might not.

If they can get top young talent at the right price as well, I'm sure they will.

10.) 30 Dec 2022 19:54:29
Debs- I thought that as well but upon checking (from what I could gather:) it was only players participating in the Welsh and English leagues which qualify. I suppose it makes sense as we have Welsh teams in our leagues. I suppose (for example) how else could Swansea players EVER be homegrown otherwise ?

Hey Pack!

I'm going to be in the Caribbean from 24th Feb to 24th March onboard the Britannia.

Any Wolves players have links to Caribbean clubs or represented Caribbean nations?

I intend to use the free gym daily and might be fun in my head to represent the Wolves whilst on board by wearing a shirt whilst training!

GDawg14

1.) 13 Feb 2023 14:06:41
Above all have a great time GDawg.

2.) 13 Feb 2023 14:38:50
GDwag - one of the players I have talked avout a lot in the past, Floyd Streete was a Jamaican.
Played in the Sherpa fan team - needed wheels as he was v v slow but good player once he got there.
A much much better player but one who failed for a variety of reasons to fulfill his talent was Bob Hazell, also from Jamaica.
More recently Ronald Zubar came Guadeloup- or St Marie for those that watch "Death in Paradise"
V jealous of your trip - enjoy and keep in touch!

3.) 13 Feb 2023 14:52:08
GDawg lucky you you'll love it! I've been fortunate to have a few holidays in the Caribbean many years ago. If I can make one suggestion if you get the opportunity try if you call in to Antigua see if you can get a trip up to Shirley Heights. It's well worth it! Mate enjoy it I'm very jealous particularly as it's cold here!

4.) 13 Feb 2023 15:06:24
Thank you. The tour goes from Barbados to various other islands and I do that 3 times before coming back to europe to largely go to the Fjords several times before a short Baltic trip and then two tours of the Mediterranean but really not venturing too far beyond Spain. I will be onboard for 6 months.

I'm going to be working every day but shorter days than a regular working day with no rent or elec to pay and the opportunity to go ashore for a few hours most times the ship docks so it's quite a lifestyle change. I may love it. I may not.

I won't be able to drink much so will stream the Wolves whilst I'm on the static bike.

Floyd Streete was one of the players o had in mind but I don't actually go Jamiaca. I remember watching Zubar play!

I've got a Havard Flo - Werder Bremen shirt off one of these cult kits stores for my time in Norway ?

5.) 13 Feb 2023 15:25:16
Nice one GDawg, have a great time, it sounds perfect I think you'll love it.

6.) 13 Feb 2023 15:48:33
Have a good time GDawg.Went on Britannia in 2015 and stopped off at both Bilbao and Corunna. Checked out Bilbao's ground (excellent) and Deportivo's (dump!).Didn't have any problems myself but quite a few passengers struggled with the ship's layout and got themselves lost!

7.) 13 Feb 2023 17:36:14
Thanks everyone. I worked in Cordoba onna teaching practice and went to watch them play. It's the only stadium I've been to in Spain. Similarly I was teaching at a British Army base in Germany and went to see Armenia Bielefeld play.

8.) 13 Feb 2023 20:54:03
GDawg, stay safe buddy, have a safe journey, (to the ship and on it), and have a fantastic break. From what you’ve been good enough to share with us, you need this break so I wish you all the best mate. Try and log on when you can, keep us up to date with your travels and your well being. And one more thing- wear that old Gold with pride and let the whole of the Caribbean know who Wolves are.
All the best mucka ????

9.) 13 Feb 2023 23:38:10
GDawg re Cordoba lucky you it is stunning we loved it when we went there on hols.
ps did you know that a "cordwainer" i.e. someone who makes new shoes as oppossed to a "cobbler" who repairs shoes or makes shoes from the discarded leather of old shoes is so named after the "Norman" word for someone that uses leather that came originally from Cordoba!

10.) 14 Feb 2023 09:51:53
Nice one Future. Cordwainers appeared quite a lot when I researched my family history and I thought it was an unusual job description.

11.) 14 Feb 2023 11:12:12
Old - There is an area of the city of London near the Bank of England that is called the Ward of Cordwainers, (they were a v powerful and wealthy guild) and in Bow Church yard a lovely square in that area that once contained an "Eleanor Cross" there is a statue of John Smith of Pocohontas fame who was a real person and a "Cordwainer"!

Just want to throw out a thank you to everyone in the group. I've had a tough 12 months with depression, choosing to resign from my career in August and make new plans, only for the plans to be delayed and delayed which means I've not really been earning in this period.

The exciting plans I had in place have finally pulled through and I start a new adventure in 14 days, but the guys and girls in this group have kept me engaged and I've found the chat stimulating at a time that I've shut some of the doors to the outside world so want to throw out a big thank you to all.

GDawg14

1.) 10 Feb 2023 20:17:37
That's great news GDawg14! glad to hear your circumstances have changed for the better. Will you still be updating wiki?

2.) 10 Feb 2023 20:18:44
GDawg, no thank you for your comments and contributions. I did not know you were suffering in that way so respect to you for maintaining contact on here. It's so easy to shut the world out at such times. I hope your new adventure brings you the rewards and happiness you deserve.

3.) 10 Feb 2023 20:40:10
GDAwg, congratulations and I hope the futures looking abit brighter now. Depression can't really be explained at times and it takes guts to recognise it and reflect. The guys and gals on here are superb and the comments help with company for me, even though unknown. I hope the week gets better tomorrow and another 3 points to help the recovery.

4.) 10 Feb 2023 20:57:37
Long - once again you put it perfectly.
GDawg I have really enjoyed your contributions so whatever your adventure is I hope you stay on touch with us all.
v best wishes and good luck!

5.) 10 Feb 2023 21:06:58
Thankyou GDawg for your comments and contributions, Longmyndwolf has said it perfectly what I was going to say mate.

6.) 10 Feb 2023 21:13:30
Yeah, I could write a long essay on the last 12 months but in short but I've been an ops manager at big global companies in last 7 years but this wasnt the happiest job. Just provided me with job security and a good wage. 18 months ago I moved to a new city with my partner but we broke up and then I've witnessed so many bad things at work in last 12 months. Racism, sexual harassment, cocaine culture within the senior management that I didn't want to ve a part of and resigned and moved out. In September I found a job working on cruise ships for 6 months in an education based role as I'm a qualified teacher. I accepted the job in October and by early December I had all my Visa's, immunizations, trainings, DBS etc and expected to start in late December. I experienced a lot of delays for u known reasons their end and I have emptied my savings and have been couch surfing of late.

Irony has it I went for an interview thursday and was awarded the job at noon. then at noon the cruise ship also contacted me to give me a start date so my 2023 plans can now commence. These involve working in the cruise ship, working at the UCI Cycling world Champs in August, a cycle holiday across Iberia and then a period of teaching in Italy. So it looks like I'm finally escaping the matrix. This period of uncertainty has been so hard and the friends I would meet and talk to I've seen less and less, which is where this group has come in and filled the void really. ❤ it's been more helpful than you'll ever realise.

7.) 10 Feb 2023 22:21:33
That's good to hear GDawg, enjoy the biking break, I need an engine in mine these days.? Try to keep in touch if possible.

8.) 10 Feb 2023 22:53:13
Fantastic gdawg,so pleased for you
As I've said on here before
From the ashes of disaster
Grow the roses of success
All the very best for your future pal,

9.) 11 Feb 2023 04:56:41
Best wishes GDawg keep strong and posting mate.

10.) 11 Feb 2023 08:44:19
Hoping for 3 points today but not the best place to go. Went to the Dell in the seventies and the away end was completely open and it was p.g down.
Would be sorry to see Traore leave. He frightens the crap out of defenders. If he is in a position to put over a cross and there is no one there, what is he expected to do?
GDawg14 best of luck mate in your New job on the cruise ship and say hello to Jane if you see her.

11.) 11 Feb 2023 18:37:09
The Dell has gone alpinewolf!

Wiki Wednesday.

This week I've pretty much written the page on Mel Eves as it was pretty empty and I've added a lot to the Tommy Docherty page. mainly stuff I've ripped from my complete entry of 1984/85 season.

Feel free to give these a read and let me know accuracy wise or anything you would add etc.

GDawg14

1.) 02 Feb 2023 19:07:50
Just read 'em gDawg, excellent. I remember Mel living at the Red Lion as a kid.

2.) 02 Feb 2023 23:10:36
Thanks Long, appreciated.

This is proving a nice learning exercise.

Heya All,

With the Wikipedia Police seemingly happy with my writing now. Those who remember the 1984/85 season, can you take a quick read of my Wikipedia page to fact check it for me :)

1984–85 Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. Season

Also, as Wiki doesn't allow you to steal pictures, even if you correctly reference and site them. If you have any pictures of what I've included, or wish to add to the page please feel free to do so.

I'm actually quite pleased with it so far sonbe gentle with me! I wasn't born until July 85 so didn't see any of it. :)

If I could help I would mate ?

2.) 28 Jan 2023 16:10:22
GDawg = Just read it!
Superb!
A ton of work and really well written!
It was a v v painful season that was only going to get even worse the follwing year. Even I can't blame Jeff for that!

3.) 29 Jan 2023 11:08:13
Takes me back GDawg; excellent work. I remember going to the first game, 2-2, at Bramall Lane. Alan Dodd was a cultured left sided central defender, by the way. A bit like Max Kilman but not so tall.Ill check it out in more detail when I have the time.

Its Wikipedia Thursday!

Last week I posted a page I had written on Steve Stoutt as I had never written one before and although it was tidied by the bots, Wikipedia didn't take it down so I've continued and written the page on the 1984/85 season.

Title:
1984–85 Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. Season

I did a little research but I was not alive during this season and all nearly all the info is stuff ive learned in the last few weeks so if you could give it a gaze to fact check it for me I'd be grateful.

As its Wiki, if you feel like giving it a tidy or adding info please do so and give me some feedback/thoughts as I'm pretty interested to learn more.

None of the 80s seasons had been created so I may write more.

Thanks All

Thys great GDawg14, I'll look forward to reading that tomorrow.

3.) 26 Jan 2023 21:19:52

It would be absolutely savage for Wolves to go in for someone like Gyokeres now, as it wouldn't allow Coventry to replace him. But that's the sort of deal which seems most likely. A lower league player. I've still got my Rosier specs on and hope that the current squad can get Diego scoring.

I get you Radiohead. On one hand we have lost Campana, a promising 22 year old international. We have temp lost Guedes who is a highly rated 26 year old winger and we are about to lose Ronan, a 24 year old home grown in this window. To be replaced by 29 - 30 something year players who do not necessarily increase the value of our first team with our average age "Creep"ing up. "Karma Police" would say we have this is our own doing if it fails and could leave us "High and Dry".

But if I "Just" take my Thom Yorke head off for a moment. We have secured players that certainly improve the squad. Lemina and Dawson are old campaigners who dint seem to get injured and have been praised for work rate, maybe they are blessed with an "Iron Lung". Sarabia and Cunha have the quality to improve our play and I'm hoping one or both of them "bends" it into the box for Costa more regular.

In short I think this is solid business as J-Lo states his ambition this season is to get us out of the relegation fight and for that he needs players who put a shift in, are slightly less prone to injury and in essence have really strong squad for a mid table assault.

The players we have brought in all seem to want to be here. At least that's what the interviews suggest. Jimenez, Guedes, Cutrone, Adama, MGW have all been through phases where they obvs haven't wanted to be here.

Also the players seem to offer something we don't have in the squad already and J-Lo has seemed keen to be agile, changing formations mid game. These players should facilitate this option.

We need to have some players that are going to put in some fight due to where we are in the table and we need to sign players for this. Not like Nottingham "Fake plastic trees" who are signing everybody.

Sorry for all the forced Radiohead puns. I'm a big fan.

Hopefully we can add some younger exciting options in the summer with a view to a Europa slot after securing safety this season.

Thanks Tommo. I've heard him 2 or 3 times on Radio 5 in the last 6 months and it tends to go along the lines of "now to our absolute finger on the pulse guy for south America, Tim Vickery. If he doesn't know it, then it's not happening." Then followed by Tim Vickery telling us that R9 Ronaldo and CR7 Ronaldo are not the same player and there is an emerging South American talent named Messi who might become the next Batistuta. Then a phone in question will be read out asking him about Enzo Fernandez and he will not really know who it is.

Talking about S.Americans. why did Pedrinho not sign last year? Was it due to immigration as he was playing for Donetsk I think? And all the reports we were getting about Dario Osorio signing for us coming out of central American?

Interesting that the clubs don't own the players. It seems a lot of the south Americans come to the continent via Spain or Portugal which would make sense due to language but they must have also found away to process the deals through the litigation that we seem to be struggling with. Maybe Jeff should buy a small Iberian club like he has Grasshoppers as a proving ground for us!
