With Southgate being linked with the Man Utd job, and Howe and GON now linked to replace him, should we be concerned about the possibility?

I don't think GON would leave for another club in the foreseeable future, but the national job may be a different kettle of fish.

Wouldn't it be 'too much too soon'? Lupil?.

2.) 21 Mar 2024 07:20:16
Personally, I think the England job (if available) would be coming too soon for our manager. He hasn't even had the chance to shape the squad with his own signings yet!
ps
Love to see Southgate go to Man. U.would certainly delay the resurgence of them returning to being a top Club!

3.) 21 Mar 2024 09:32:34
I've got a funny feeling klopp may get the England job.

4.) 21 Mar 2024 14:00:13
I agree with you both, it's too soon for GON, in my opinion. But if they want an English coach there's not a lot of options.

I like having an English boss but it would be fascinating to see Klopp in charge Arddunby!

5.) 21 Mar 2024 16:51:56
Lupii, Klopp knows the English game well, he's acclimatised to the country and knows its football culture well. Not to mention being successful!

Naturally Germany would probably be of primary interest to him but looking at the 3 main English names mentioned, GON, Howe and Potter, I'm unsure they have the experience at this stage of there career.

If Klopp was English he'ld be a popular choice me thinks.

6.) 22 Mar 2024 06:48:20
Eddie howe best English candidate imo.
Klopp can't see it happening in a zillion years.

Terrific result today. So happy for Cunha. I think Gomez proved his worth in midfield, although it is harsh on Doyle.

Lemina has been a little quieter recently but I doubt Doyle will dislodge him either.

Neto looks unplayable again.

Lamina is quietly doing his job efficiently, and given he's lost his father only recently its understandable lupil. I thought gomez was immense again yesterday and that's what competition from doyle brings. We were lucky with a couple of Chelsea misfires but as if said before we create our own luck by the pressure we place on players.
Cunha was fantastic yesterday.

Cunha is fast becoming my favourite player.

Incredible work rate, a leader, humble, and always smiling.

And what a player Doyle is turning out to be too!

Yep.another1 I got wrong.anyway i'd like to welcome joe young to buxton under23keeper.i may be watching him this weekend

2.) 18 Jan 2024 02:26:19
We all get it wrong at times Bux mate all part of being a fan.

3.) 18 Jan 2024 15:11:24
At times? Many were wanting to sell Hwang in the summer. Said Sarabia wasn't up to it. Said Cunha was overpriced. Wanted to sell Ait-Nouri.
That's at least 4 of the starting 11.

4.) 19 Jan 2024 14:08:07
Handsome - GON and the players are making many of us look like fools!
I would have sold Hwang for £20m last summer - with the benefit of hindsight that would have been insane! However I don't think many would have predicted his amazing goal scoring run this season so far?
Sarabia still struggles to contribute consistently but again you are correct he has done far far better than many including me would have predicted. Cunha in my view is now one of the key players in the squad! As discussed in a thread above I think he is worth more than we paid and probably by quite a bit! I can't however brag that I was always a huge fan but it was obvious from the start that he was blessed with genuine quality. Maybe when he first arrived however we didn't use him correctly and thus some were less than convinced?
RAN I would still sell if the price was right - £50m for a LWB is too much for a club of our level to turn down especially as we have Bueno - who I think is just as good if not better - at the club as well!
However whilst acknowledging these "errors" I also claim - and you can read the posts to show it - to have recognised the flaws in Guedes and Fabio far earlier than many and certainly earlier than the club did. I also defended Sa, Doherty, Kilman, Traore A and others when other posters criticised them.
It is though all a matter of opinions and as fans ours are merely "noise".
Who do you rate/not rate of the current or recent past squad (s)

5.) 19 Jan 2024 16:44:10
The flaw of Guedes is that he didn't want to be there. He actually scored a couple of goals in his limited minutes.

re: Luke Cundle

Plymouth fans appear divided on Cundle. They like him and are disappointed to lose him, but the overwhelming majority also feel he is replaceable and not worth £2m.

So, unless he goes up ten gears at Stoke, he's unlikely to ever play for us again.

It's a sad indictment on a player we all wanted to see progress here but, like Giles before him, his future probably lies elsewhere.

It begs the question, out of the current crop of youngsters, who are the ones we can pin our hopes on now?

Lupii

1.) 09 Jan 2024 09:39:27
V good post.
The buying/developing one for the future line is extremely tough. Wolves have bought numerous young players over the past few years - some for pennies and some for vast sums.
Some have failed totally but others, Toti and Bueno for example, have done well.
There amazingly does not even appear to be a link between price paid and success - this must be wrong?!
We just have to hope that our scouts and recruitment team get their share (and a bit) right!

2.) 09 Jan 2024 12:06:18
Of the current u21 squad who have first team squad numbers allocated to them and are less than 20 years old, Nathan Fraser may have a chance of a breakthrough.

Let's not under estimate hiw difficult it is to break into the Premier league for a young player. I would suggest far harder now than when Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney did in 1998 and 2004.

From 1992 the EPL still retained characteristics of the old first division. I now think of it as an international league that English clubs participate in, not English teams!

3.) 09 Jan 2024 12:43:33
Arddunby - good point. Far more money and so far more established pros brought in from other leagues blocking young players routes to game time. Indeed if you make it local lads then it is even harder as not only are established pros brought in but so are promising youngsters and even raw kids with actually v little chance of making it themselves. Note neither Bueno or Toti are exactly "local"!

4.) 10 Jan 2024 11:45:22
I would suggest that after reading what's available Plymouth didn't want to lose Cundle, hardly surprising as his loan has been successful. Played very much all the time under the manager who left for Stoke, I won't embarrass myself by trying to spell his name! Clearly he is very much wanted at Stoke and we are in no rush to sell. Be good to see how he gets on until the summer, he could still be a useful squad player for us but it could be a choice between him and Hodge.

5.) 10 Jan 2024 15:49:16
Ken I think he's out of contract on 31st May. If so that explains the low transfer fee and Plymouth maybe thinking they could get him on a free inbthe summer.

05 Jan 2024 04:12:06
It was reported earlier that we're apparently asking for as little as £2m for Luke Cundle.

Seems cheap to me but I wouldn't be surprised.

Alex Scott must be one hell of a player though if we we considering paying ten Luke Cundles for him.

Lupii

1.) 05 Jan 2024 09:09:32
Would rather keep Cundle and take the hit on getting rid of Guedes.

2.) 05 Jan 2024 09:26:37
Par for the course for us, someone on here the other day mentioned we get all these youngsters in, with the exception of a few off they go, after little opportunity for very little.

3.) 05 Jan 2024 12:03:46
Good points but, what's right for Luke/what he wants at this stage of his career as well as length of time on his contract are going to be factor's in any decision.

If Neto stays fit and continues with this form, it's obviously going to be difficult to keep hold of him.

We can only hope that in that case, we demand the kind of fee that other clubs seem to be able to demand for their star players. If Caicedo, Mudryk, Antony, Højlund, and Mount etc can sell for £65-110m, then Neto has to be in that ballpark too.

I've heard the liquidator being played at so many different clubs.it brings back good memories but I don't mind it being a memory in itself now.

It's a new era, I'd like to hear something new and perhaps a bit more original.

If we were getting a fit Ings, playing at his best, I'd snap their hands off for him, but if he was at his best, he wouldn't be available.

It's a gamble but you never know, it could work out.

On the other hand, Ekitike only scored 4 goals in 32 games for PSG, so he's hardly a sure bet either.

I think, at this time of the season, for us, it's probably less about finding the ideal signing and more about finding the most efficient deal.

Hobbs said that while we are losing Sasa and Silva, they barely played any minutes anyway, so there's little need to replace them.
Obviously he's not taking injuries and internationals into the equation there but I can understand where he's coming from.

He was excellent once again, and what a goal. It's a no-brainer to keep him.

How he gets a red card for that and Damsgaard gets away with a yellow for a worse studs-on-shin tackle on Doyle is typical of VAR's decisions towards us this season.
