Wolves should sign Dries Merton's from Napoli on a free he's 32 but like Moutinho pure class and bags of experience.

Would he be willing to drop his wage demands as he's currently on £125k a week. I think he'll sign for Chelsea.

2.) 13 Apr 2020 14:03:45
Plus we've got Shabani and Jordao coming back from injury. If we do sign a midfielder, hopefully it will be someone aged in their mid 20's so we have them for a while.

3.) 15 Apr 2020 00:34:02
I do like Mertens but there's a reason he's leaving on a free and it's cause for a player that mostly realies on speed age is a big factor! If the club go for him then of course I'd give him a chance but personaly (similar to Jas) I'd sooner stick with the youngsters we already have, especially at the level of wages being quoted👍.

4.) 15 Apr 2020 21:19:40
A new back up for Raul seems the most likely. Have no idea who though!
Would you trust in campana or try and go for a bigger name back up. Seems we either go for a young up and coming. Or fine aged quality.

Would you take a Teemu Pukki sort. Or aim higher.

5.) 23 Apr 2020 20:29:38
I do like Puki and he can finish but I'm just not sure he'd be mobile enough for how we play? There's a reason getting back up for Raul will be hard and its because we REALLY do have one of the hardest working and most talented strikers in the league right now! It's a difficult one but in a weird way a good problem to have! Let's just hope in Campana they've found another South American gem 👍.

I think Nuno has taken us as far as he can. You have to question his set up, tactics and substitutions this season. He clearly isn't able to utilise the talent our squad has whether that is because he doesn't know his best team/ formation etc. I also think we have players who are on that pitch who ain't up to scratch and won't ever be and that's Nouri, Hoever and Dendoncker who can't mark to save his life and the other 2 offer no product or quality. Feel sorry for the poor lad Silva but I think £35m was a complete waste of money as well but I may be wrong. One word I hate is POTENTIAL and all this crap, if they can't do it now they never will just look at Foden and Rashford for eg.

Great post, completely right about players not good enough. Midfield are struggling. Nuno says he is happy with the squad, they just need to improve. I am afraid he has lost the plot!

2.) 02 Feb 2021 12:15:08
Well just reading neves became father after palace match on coach home and was only in touch with his wife in portugul via net. A reminder they do make sacrifices for us (and the money! ) And minds can be sometimes elsewhere. Let's hope he/ we celebrate with a win tonight.

3.) 02 Feb 2021 12:29:37
Greg- I get some of what you are saying but then some of your points are completely lost on me. So essentially what you are saying is that unless we have two of the best England players of an ENTIRE generation then it's not worth signing young players?! If every club that doesn't have players of that quality in the youth teams gave up (which is virtually every club outside the top four by the way) then youth development would pretty much cease to exist over night?!

4.) 02 Feb 2021 13:32:25
Well if Nuno plays his pal Moutinho tonight he ought to lose his job.

The only thing that stopped us qualifying for Europe last season, the midfield lack of creativity and lack of goals, We would have easily turning halve of those 12 draws into wins and maybe? Jota would have stayed.

Nuno should give Owen Owatasie a chance tonight bet he won't.

5.) 02 Feb 2021 13:45:37
Nuno highlighted the slow play after Saturdays match. I expect Moutinho to be on the bench tonight with Neves replacing him. If fit, Saiss in midfield to give us some bite and allow Neves to do what he did best in his first two seasons with us.

Who were the midfield duo when we won the Championship? Neves and Saiss (when not suspended) .

6.) 02 Feb 2021 14:22:23
Another worrying thread.
We can't deny someone has lost the plot - results and performances don't lie. However there are extenuating circumstances for Nuno - Injuries, ( not his fault) and a botched summer transfer window, ( which we believe wasn't his fault? ) mean we are operating with a side that is substantially weaker than it was last year.
I suspect that no manger could have covered over the events that have occurred at the Mol.
H.

7.) 02 Feb 2021 14:26:32
He has tried to cover this up by making tactical and personnel changes but sadly since Jimenez was injured it just hasn't been possible to make a silk purse from a pigs ear.
We are where we are because the squad, hamstrung by the injuries we have suffered and the failings of last summer, is just v weak and hopelessly unbalanced.
We can't strengthen because all the money was spent ( and remember due to CV money is v tight everywhere) in the summer on Silva and Semedo.

8.) 02 Feb 2021 15:31:45
Saiss, in CMF, is a good shout. In the Championship season ( 99pts and 80 odd goals) Neves= 1 assist, nuff said! FWAW.

Phil - in response to posts now on Banter 2.
I have obviously never met you but now, thanks to this site, regard you as a "friend" and was quite upset to hear of your troubles both at work and at home.
Mental health is also very close to my heart as I have an autistic child and a very elderly widowed mother who is suffering v badly from depression and other issues.
Since retiring and no longer having a work outlet I realise how important relationship are and this C.V. has placed us all under huge strain.
I hope all of the posters are cognizant of this and post accordingly.
Fingers crossed all is well with you and your brother and that work does not cause you further stress.
PS Had 4th interview for that job today but not sure its going to happen.

10.) 02 Feb 2021 16:49:22
I thought the game was on sky gutted it’s on BT don’t have it oh well radio it is. Let’s get at them from the start and don’t let them settle, Hopefully Traore will start and give Otasowie a start also and ruffle a few feathers. Arsenal have hit a bit of form so we need to be at our best why not tonight! Getting my first jab tomorrow.

11.) 02 Feb 2021 17:26:40
Thanks Thefutureisoldgold,
Fingers crossed we will all be cheering tonight, but equally fully prepared if it doesn't go our way.
I'm with my brother watching the chase, all is normal, just a rarity the weekend how my bro was.
Good luck in your job search.

👍

12.) 02 Feb 2021 17:28:00
Good luck with jab. Took my mum to have hers and have to say it was v well organised.
As she knew both several of the volunteers and other " patients" it was also a great social occasion for her a real rarity in these lockdown days.

13.) 02 Feb 2021 17:42:05
Thanks future will be glad to have it, hope your mum is ok and you are all well 👍.

14.) 02 Feb 2021 18:59:33
Not playing that well Taff but quality penalty by neves all to play for in the 2and half, me and bro dancing around in the living room at last.
Best if health for your jab 👍.

I just think we need experience and Mertens would give us that with quality just like Moutinho has. Also I would of gone for Tahith Chong from Man Utd (Afro Man) he is or was out of contract whether they have tied him down or not last minute but this kid is pure if not world class and would be perfect for Wolves. Also I would love to see a player like David Brooks from Bournemouth in the centre for us. The lads been out nearly all season with injury but he's a like the forgotten man and again is class in my opinion. I personally am not a fan of Dendonkker he's a liability the lad can't mark to save his life as shown when played at the back, doesn't look around him and just wonders about in space like headless chicken. Vintage and Gibbs I think need to stop trying to over impress and just play as the quality is there but I know chances are limited. Finally Boly, well I say if this lad isn't worth £50m I'd be surprised as he is one of top 3 defenders in the league in my eyes.

I'm afraid that I personally don't think there will be any huge investment now not with the current health situation. For one thing clubs are losing significant amounts of money plus we now have the spectre of Newcastle which players will view as a bigger fish.

2.) 16 Apr 2020 12:33:40
Problem is Greg your comparing apples and pairs. Moutinho was never a quick player his main attribute is his reading of the game, age doesn't massively effect that in fact from what we've seen he might even be getting better! Mertens on the other hand is a player that's always relied on pace and sadly this is reflected in his stats for the last 3 seasons where there's a very clear downward trend (just 6 goals so far this season) . Add to that he's been tied with HUGE wages in China and I just don't think he's worth the risk.
Chong signed a new contract with United on 9th March, they went big by all accounts because he was being tracked by Inter and Juve so I think the horse may have bolted on that one as I think most of Europe's aware of how special he is! I like Brooks but again they will want a fortune for a player who has a ropey injury record at besg so I just can't see us doing it to be honest. I've said it before, as SQ just said NO one will be spending big this summer, footy is currently going through its biggest wake up call in a generation! 😨.

3.) 16 Apr 2020 14:12:50
Agreed Bully boy. Although Newcastle might think they have their own rules.

4.) 16 Apr 2020 16:02:44
SQ- Man City had there own rules and are now facing expulsion from the Champs League for it with rumours PSG are next! UEFA have made it pretty clear that play time is over for over spending so I just can't see them getting away with it. I actually think they will go down our route with a top manager (Allegeri odds are already tumbling) and a big drive on recruitment. It could work but as Fosun lamented last year I think the days are gone of giving clubs blank cheques, time will tell 👍.

5.) 16 Apr 2020 17:31:32
Ps- where I do think you could be right is if Man City succeed with a CAS appeal. It happened before with Juve, then THAT could make it open season on mad investment. The other scenario that's a concern could be a relaxation of the FFP rules due to the current situation but who knows what the future holds there?! 🤔.

{Ed002's Note - The relaxation relates to those clubs in trouble. Clubs all have to stay within the rules.}

6.) 17 Apr 2020 16:57:25
I know Ed, but that's as things stand today and its also only as strong as they are willing to enforce it. Like all things at the moment, rules and how stringently they are enforced can change VERY quickly in the current climate! For the record I hope your right and it remains the case but with how gutless they have been at enforcing the rules previously, well let's just say I am a sceltic when it comes to UEFA.

{Ed002's Note - It is enforced and isn't just FIFA.}

7.) 17 Apr 2020 17:29:25
I mean you say its enforced yet PSG won there appeal to shut down the investigation into them? And are you honestly telling me you don't think Barcelona or Real shouldn't have been done on wages yet? It is enforced but very sporadically, not very bindingly (I suspect City will overturn it with a CAS) appeal and then there was Juve literally caught cheating and STILL overturned?! I suppose what I am really debating is how capable they are of seeing though their enforcement because there's been little to no proof of that yet?

{Ed002's Note - The UEFA case had been concluded yet they looked to re-open it without new evidence - hence the appeal was help up. Real Madrid and Barcelona are not in breach of rules about wages - which themselves changed a couple of years ago. Manchester City are claiming that the evidence presented (which was largely stolen) was incomplete and out of context. Ironically, evidence against FIFA and UEFA from the same source (thief) was claimed to be out of context, incomplete and obtained illegally by UEFA and FIFA. I am not sure what you are referring to with Juventus. I do understand all of the conspiracy stuff, but I also know exactly what happened with Chelsea and The FA, what sits in the file with Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester United over the same issue - and how hard FIFA tried to make the matter go away after Chelsea had been charged and found to be guilty. There was a matter raised with Wolves over a certain player that Wolves had the opportunity to resolve. PL FFP issues are around teh encks of Aston Villa and Everton - who may just be able to resolve them during a period of relaxation. Not so good for the likes of Birmingham. Derby or Sheffield Wednesday. Across Europe UEFA have given out numerous punishments and bans.}

8.) 17 Apr 2020 22:31:05
But the appeal was only raised within UEFA about PSG because they had ALREADY been cleared by UEFA! At which point other members within the organisation started to query how it was possible that PSG had been cleared (considering the numbers)?!

Then they followed this by dropping their OWN appeal without so much as a fight! Resulting in one of the leading members of the FFP team to quit (quite pubically) because they pretty much intermitted that UEFA weren't backing them when it came to the crunch.

I mean when that comes from within the department in question then it's hard to have much faith in the system. You say there have been sanctions imposed by UEFA but other than fines (or nonsense like reduced squad numbers) where has this happened to a big club yet and been upheld cause I'm not aware of it happening yet?! Seems to me they seem scared of facing the legal teams at big clubs (the City lot were practically laughing when they announced their appeal) .

The Juve case was not FFP but was when they were caught VERY blatantly match fixing with refs involved through wire taps. They were supposed to be relegated with a 30 point fine before the season started this was downgraded to a 9 point fine (thus ensuring they could bounce straight back) .

What financial fine were they given for matches that many people around the club almost certainly made millions off in bets well that was £75k! Milan were also supposed to be banned from Europe for it, but guess what not only did the ban not stick they actually got to the final that year to add insult to injury!

Now I realise that's not FFP but it does show a pattern of an organisation that seems to struggle with genuinely following through with there punishments! Or scared of the financial clout at big clubs? 🤔👍.

The liability is Dendonkey as he doesn't support Neves one bit and makes him look stupid. Can't you see that guys his marking is non existent and runs around like a headless chicken.

The main reason we are bad at times is Dendonkey in midfield as he offer nothing defencively and makes Neves look average due to not knowing what's around him like a headless chicken. He offers us nothing and has to go awful awful player. If anyone has seen him mark anyone I'd like to know.
