Wolves were in talks with PSG for a loan for goalkeeper Renato Marin in case Jose Sa or Johnstone leave but could not guarantee playing time.
Now he is reportedly joining Portuguese outfit CD Nacional.
29 Jun 2026 08:10:25
Australian World Cup goalkeeper Patrick Beach looks a good unit, and, presumably, would be quite cheap, so right up Fosun's alley. Currently plays for City Group affiliate Melbourne City. Might even get him on loan???
29 Jun 2026 11:55:56
I really fancy Radek Vitek. He had a solid Championship season. He is a good young gk, and we could easily get him in a swap with Johnstone to Man U.
29 Jun 2026 14:37:02
Vitek sounds like he would be a really important requisition if we could secure it.
29 Jun 2026 15:19:58
Hopefully there's a deal somewhere for Vitek to come in, with Sam Johnstone going the other way to be 3rd choice at United. They need another HG keeper, and Johnstone came through there, so it would make sense for both clubs if Vitek would be interested.
29 Jun 2026 15:42:21
Unfortunately, Wolves, that might actually be the problem, as Vitek is also, in fact, homegrown to United (I believe), and it's entirely possible that they want Johnstone as a third choice because Vitek is about to become second choice. Time will tell, but I agree that he would be a decent acquisition.
27 Jun 2026 23:03:05
Notts Forest are very interested in Joao Gomes, wages agreed, talks have progressed with Wolves over fee circa 39million.
28 Jun 2026 09:23:44
Makes sense, especially when you've just banked £116 million for Anderson. Joao isn't as good as Anderson, but he's more than good enough for Forest and their aspirations.
Have to feel for Newcastle. Needed to sell Anderson to comply with PSR and got a poxy £35 million for him.
The PL is an utter snooze fest. What chance do the lesser clubs have when they have to spend £50 million on Larsen or £55 million on Wissa, and Man City can spend a British record on a midfielder and it doesn't even touch the sides? The spending rules changing will do nothing other than bring Spurs back into the fold and make Man Utd title contenders again.
Their revenue will allow this.
Fosun need to start becoming geniuses at player trading, otherwise Wolves back in the Premier League will be the same as it has been for the last few years.
28 Jun 2026 10:46:35
None of your previous rumours have come true mate so suggest your 'source' is not a reliable one . LOL!
28 Jun 2026 14:10:20
Obviously I don't know if it is true or not, but on the surface it makes complete sense.
Sell at a ludicrously high fee and buy at a ludicrously low one.
Sounds a pretty smart strategy - wonder if Wolves had ever thought about doing that?
I know a lot of posters on here, bizarrely, don't rate J. Gomes, but surely no one can think you should be able to buy Neves, Ran and Gomes for the price of Anderson?
PS, I continually hear that Gomes is only defensive and does not create enough, a point certainly supported by the very poor stats he produces.
However, I would make two points in his defence.
Firstly, I reckon you could have had prime Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes in the Wolves side last year and they wouldn't have been able to get the traffic cone that was Jsl, Tolu and Hwang to double figures - between the 3 of them.
Secondly, Wolves were regularly overrun last year, and he and Andre spent the entire time putting out fires and trying desperately to cover for the wholly inadequate players they were surrounded by.
I think the stats for defensive actions will show how well they did that!
Also, to provide assists you need players who are willing and able to receive passes and then convert the chances created.
It also helps if you have players around you who can retain possession and pass to you to enable you to make the passes required for assists to be created.
28 Jun 2026 20:02:40
The big issue last year is we had no pace up front, so no outlet to aim for.
We really missed Cunha, Semedo, and Sarabia.
To then lose Ran was suicidal.
But I can't remember a forward keeping possession of the ball last season.
Andre and Gomes looked up, but the forwards didn't move.
Mane offered a link, but that got sussed out after the international break.
I think moving to a back 4 with pace will mean more attacking players can be brought in, and more midfield creativity and steel in certain games.
27 Jun 2026 16:45:45
New report: Joao Gomes' transfer to Atletico Madrid is stalling because of the agent. And you're right, Mendes trying to get more to give him a bigger cut does not surprise me.
27 Jun 2026 17:13:58
But isn't Joao Gomes represented by Carlos Leite Sports, who, as far as I can see, are not linked to Mendes in any way, shape or form?
I do recall, when Gomes joined us, Mendes was asked by FC Lyon to try and convince him to join them instead, but Gomes rejected his help.
28 Jun 2026 00:24:26
Mendes, as he works for Gestifute, was presenting Bernardo Silva to Atletico Madrid before he signed for Real.
I believe Mendes was working as an agent to provide Joao Gomes to Atletico as part of the deal, so Mendes moved Joao Gomes on for Wolves and provided Bernardo Silva to Atletico Madrid.
The Gomes deal was off due to the Silva deal collapsing and Silva moving to Real.
I think he should go, as he should play CL football. But he may stay with the changes at Wolves over the past few weeks. And no WC now for 4 years.
28 Jun 2026 07:25:47
Gomes to Atletico Madrid would be really good for his career, and I suspect Wolves are going to sell him, cuz they offered Andre a long deal, and having 2 defensive minded midfielders reduces the creativity of the squad. We should sign a more creative midfielder.
26 Jun 2026 20:29:11
Wolves reportedly interested in Nikolas Polster for Wolfsberger AC (Austrian Bundesliga) and Jacob Widell Zetterstrom (Derby), both promising keepers, who would be excellent upgrades. Still don't feel that Zetterstrom would join us given that Bayer Leverkusen and a few EPL sides are also interested. Leeds are also monitoring him, in case Darlow goes to Man U.
27 Jun 2026 11:05:55.
James Storer has left Wolves, heading to Plymouth. One keeper down.
27 Jun 2026 11:47:28
Sam Johnstone is apparently of interest to Man U. We could be another keeper down soon. We're not keeping our keepers!
27 Jun 2026 14:27:30
Yes Deep, United have been credited with interest for a while. He came through their youth system, so would give them the added benefit of counting as homegrown to the club, which is a massive bonus for a third choice keeper! It could (hopefully) actually work in our favour, as it likely means he has more value to United than most other clubs.
It's a shame, really, cause in the Champ he'd be a decent keeper, but I suspect he wants to go. 👍
28 Jun 2026 07:23:50
Man U wants Johnstone as backup, so we could try to use that as leverage and offer a swap + some money for Radek Vitek, a solid young keeper, with loads of potential.
29 Jun 2026 07:17:54
Good idea, mate, but doubt Fosun will go for him.
26 Jun 2026 08:38:25
Johann Lepenant is currently being pursued by Wolves with an improved bid of £15M being prepared - this is according to Sky.
26 Jun 2026 11:39:12
Could be a very good signing. I know Wolves have been linked with him before. Not too sure about the success rates of French players in English football. For example, not on the same planet as players coming from Portugal, Africa, Scandinavia, etc. I could be wrong.
Whatever happens, I wouldn't mind Wolves signing his team mate Louis Leroux. I love his documentaries.
26 Jun 2026 16:34:24
Could be good.
Saw a line on one of the rumour sites about a player.
Quote: "The reality may not align with the truth."
Who knew?
26 Jun 2026 16:38:59
Louis Leroux...documentaries... I flipping love that one. 🤣🤣🤣
Must be the heat. I misquoted a rumour site.
It actually said... "the rumour may not align with the truth".
28 Jun 2026 14:00:24
Fake rumour. I know because I started this rumour (see in Wolves Rumour 2). Johaan Lepenant is not linked to Wolves. This guy is lying.
28 Jun 2026 18:00:18
Ha ha.
24 Jun 2026 20:44:29
Fiorentina are reportedly in talks to sign Hugo Bueno.
25 Jun 2026 12:09:57
Cozier-Duberry and Arrey-Mbi spent 3 years in a British club before the age of 21.
So both are home grown.
25 Jun 2026 17:09:59
Where are you seeing that exactly Fosun? Cause from I can see Arrey Mbi hasn't even kicked a ball in England?
25 Jun 2026 17:59:38
Youth teams.
25 Jun 2026 19:14:29
He did spend some time in English youth teams (he had 5 games for our U18), but not enough continually to qualify as homegrown, I'm afraid.
25 Jun 2026 23:04:13
Played for Norwich and Chelsea for the minimum 3 years before 21 years of age.
Homegrown.
25 Jun 2026 23:36:23
But he moved to Bayern when he was 16, and the clock only starts ticking from 15, I'm afraid. I suspect this is all academic, frankly, as Arsenal were after him six months ago. Either way, he moved to Germany at 16 so wouldn't be classified as homegrown.
26 Jun 2026 09:14:13
It's a bit of a jump from 'he has never kicked a ball in England' to 'the rules start at 16'.
So, what's an academy graduate under these rules you have made up?
If they have played in an FA or FAW club for 3 years before 21, they are classed as homegrown.
The whole point of the scheme was to attract more clubs to play youngsters. In your scheme, clubs would stop playing them, as they wouldn't be homegrown.
26 Jun 2026 12:01:49
This is an interesting point.
My research on the internet is sadly somewhat contradictory.
The direct question - is Bright Arrey-Mbi "homegrown"? - elicits the answer "yes!" as he spent 5 years at Chelsea from 11 -16 thus meeting the 3 years before 21 rule
But the question -"how young do you have to be to start your qualifying process? " - elicits the answer 15 so he would fail to meet the rule having moved to Germany a mere 1 year later.
Ed any clarity??
{Ed001's Note - I thought it started counting from 15, so between the ages of 15-21. That was how it was in the past, but they do have a habit of changing regulations fairly often. However, I have not heard of any change in this reg.}
26 Jun 2026 12:49:45
So what is Jude Bellingham? He only spent one season in the EFL before moving to Dortmund.
Homegrown or not homegrown?
The rule is to stop players being signed from overseas, not to stop homegrown youngsters from playing.
If a player has played in an FA or FAW academy as kids, they are homegrown.
Otherwise, there would be no point in having an academy. Just sweep up as much good talent at 15, then keep them for 3 years.
{Ed001's Note - he is not homegrown for an English side.}
26 Jun 2026 11:26:55
F2ndP do you ever admit you are wrong? lol.
26 Jun 2026 14:14:27
Haha, it's a fair point. What, buddy? And I wouldn't mind him never accepting it if he wasn't wrong so often. 😂
I haven't made the rules up, FP2G. The FA have, and you seem to be missing the fundamental point here. It's about when a player is officially registered for a club, which I suspect can only happen when they sign their first proper contract, which usually happens just before their 16th birthday so as to kick in once they come of age. Hence the rules needing to be from 15-21. Ironically, the one thing you finally got right, you did so by accident. There are, in fact, many clubs that have, and are, massively scaling back their academies because, like you say, for smaller clubs it often doesn't pay for itself.
Look at us, we just bought through a 15-year-old keeper who was supposed to be the best of his generation; only problem is he's gone and signed for Liverpool because that's what happens. Just like we did to Rochdale with Mane.
Also, FYI, I stand by what I said, because outside of youth team footy the guy has never played in a full first team match in England, much less the years you seem to be claiming, despite him signing for Bayern in 2019 (when he was 16).
Yet again, though, I suppose it's everyone else in the wrong, though, eh, just like when we were about to sign Cardoso, you know the 59-year-old scout your mate told you we were signing at FB. 🤣
26 Jun 2026 15:46:29
It's actually a bigger issue than whether I get something right or wrong.
It shows that clubs don't invest in their academies, as they won't be homegrown.
The big clubs hold on to players for longer periods, then sell, but the development of the player is halted.
Harvey Elliott and McAtee are great examples where they could have been playing more football but were held on to longer than they needed to be for this homegrown rule.
With the rule starting at 15, there is no benefit to having an academy other than if you are a big club for pure profit.
{Ed001's Note - Elliott? You are wrong again. Elliott was at Fulham and had the choice to go pretty much anywhere, was offered a deal at Real Madrid for instance, but chose Liverpool because he is a fan of the club. Klopp loved him and has said since leaving that one of his biggest regrets is not using Elliott more, which is in part due to a couple of major injuries he suffered. It was nothing to do with homegrown rules, Klopp wanted to keep him and he wanted to stay. The issue is more that it encourages a trade in children, in order to get them into clubs before the age of 18, so they can become homegrown.}
26 Jun 2026 16:44:53
Speaking of Harvey Elliott, I can't believe that lad has sat out almost a whole EPL season, but the way Villa have done it, you can't fault the manager's decisions. Surely that's going to affect his future? Unless, of course, he has been on loan and I never noticed. I don't keep up too much these days. It gives me a headache.
26 Jun 2026 15:35:56
Ed - do you have any clarity on this?
My research is not conclusive.
As 2ndgen says he did play for some 5 years for Chelsea before he was 21 so in theory he is "homegrown" and some sites do indeed state that he is.
However other sites, as BB identifies, say that only years after the age of 15 count and he played for Chelsea from 11 to 16 i.e. only 1 year after 15 and so he does not qualify?
{Ed001's Note - I have already said, it is between the ages of 15-21 so Bellingham would not be homegrown: "UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21." That is the sentence from the UEFA regs.}
26 Jun 2026 19:16:08
Well, it's defo been an interesting debate, gents, but regardless of that I still don't think we have a cat in hell's chance of signing Arrey Mbi, sadly. I would love to be wrong, but he seems to be well rated by a number of far bigger clubs. 👍
26 Jun 2026 22:26:39
Apologies Ed. Resent the post as i thought I had pressed the wrong button (you do things like that at my age) and thus not sent the first one
Appreciate your response.
{Ed001's Note - no worries.}
24 Jun 2026 14:15:14
Talks have started for Vitoria S. C. winger Oumar Camara and Bright Arrey-Mbi from Braga. Brighton's Amario Cozier-Duberry and Leicester's Abdul Fatawu are also high on the target list, however, both holding out for Premier League options at the moment. Jordan James looking likely to end up at Palace or Coventry as things stand, so would say we're out of that race for now.
24 Jun 2026 19:27:25
Signing Arrey-Mbi could be the biggest signing of the summer in the Championship.
LCB, who we need, and can play in a back 4.
Think Boly, but with pace.
Could easily play in a European football team.
25 Jun 2026 10:42:25
Are you allowed to use the names of footballers on a Scrabble board?
25 Jun 2026 11:06:01
And yet, we still need homegrown ... so forgive me if I don't believe these rumours.
24 Jun 2026 12:07:49
Wolves have reportedly been looking at several centre backs, Jason Denayer, Max Alleyne, Adam Webster.
24 Jun 2026 12:40:10
Max Alleyne would be ideal for Wolves in the Championship. No to the other two.
24 Jun 2026 15:21:00
They will leave it too late, as ever.
24 Jun 2026 15:44:44
The issue is Alleyne will have a lot of suitors and Man City haven't sorted the manager situation with Maresca just yet.
If more of their defence moves on this summer, they may be left short, as John Stones has left already.
Ake has been a bit-part player as well, and they always seem to have injuries in defence.
Plus Alleyne may be thinking he wants to try it in the Prem. Over to Cesar to sell his plan to him.
25 Jun 2026 11:08:58
So, yes to a player that hasn't even played 90s min at senior level, but no to someone with over 100 Prem games? Have... have I got that right? All because he comes from Man City?
Can we stick to tried and tested since we've gone for a complete gamble of a manager.
Neves and Jota had actually played lots of games in league at senior level and both played in Champions League. People forget that and act like they both were in youth team...
22 Jun 2026 17:01:38
Gestifute are still in negotiations regarding Gustavo Sa.
22 Jun 2026 18:06:36
Potentially an excellent signing. Do your sources have any other information regarding Wolves incomings or outgoings? Will Real Madrid be bidding £150 million for Jackson Tchatchoua?
22 Jun 2026 19:03:40
Tchatchoua is holding out for better personal terms which is delaying that particular mega transfer.
22 Jun 2026 19:18:37
Unbelievable. Real Madrid offering £350,000 per week, but Tchatchoua holding out for that plus a new Rover 214 GSi every 12 months.
22 Jun 2026 20:07:06
He wanted an "I don't have to run clause" as part of his contract.
23 Jun 2026 08:36:48
Am I missing the joke? Real Betis might want him, but Real Madrid? I think not!
23 Jun 2026 12:02:13
I think it's a joke, Doog.
But also think the Sa rumour is a joke. Why would he join us if Benfica are interested? European football and top flight with a famous team that don't get relegated once a decade or come to sunny Wolvo?
Also his value is EUR25m according to Transfermarkt so that means it would take something above that...
Are we really gonna spend £20m+ on a 21 year old that's not played in England before? Have we learnt nothing from the last season? We've already sang this song with Fer Lopez and Fabio Silva.
Can we please get proven players in first then go for players that are huge gambles.
23 Jun 2026 12:06:42
Just checked the Portuguese press. Apparently, Benfica want to focus on defence, but Porto are interested and likely to get him.
"Luis Aguilar reveals that the young athlete should sign for the Dragons soon for a budget of around 20 million euros with goals included." - this is translated from Portuguese so could be inaccurate or misleading.
23 Jun 2026 14:35:02
It's important to note a transfer fee is only a prediction by Transfermarkt.
If a club is in financial difficulty, then the fee drops, as we have found with signings brought in and some sold as well over the past 3 years under PSR rules.
Famalicao may be struggling, as they have tried to push for European places over the past 3 years.
23 Jun 2026 19:04:39
Just call me Mr Gullible, WhatALoad. LOL.
22 Jun 2026 12:50:40
Again Che Adams linked with Wolves face competition from Venezia. Source Tutto Mercato
Think this is just agents playing games to be honest.
Can't see us signing a 29 year old that scores 1 in 4.
Strange how it keeps coming up though. The Wolves were interested in January 2026 under Edwards and they have been in the past as well.
Maybe contact was made as he is a homegrown player and they keep tabs on him for this reason. At his age as well maybe his fee is cheaper than other options as well to boost the homegrown rota.
22 Jun 2026 14:02:28
I assume that signing Che Adams would be a means to a short-term end: getting promoted and boosting home-grown player numbers. That's all, no real future for him and us beyond that.
22 Jun 2026 18:21:03
Che Adams and Adama Traore - No Thank You.
22 Jun 2026 20:38:14
Traore - yes. Adams - no... no... no.
23 Jun 2026 03:13:40
Traore absolutely no.
24 Jun 2026 15:26:04
No to both. One can't cross, and the other doesn't score enough.
21 Jun 2026 21:49:50
Apparently Wolves are after Josh Mulligan from Hibs. This is according to TeamTalk, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Also Football Insider trying to stir things by claiming Mane is unhappy and wants out. The journalist reporting this is the same one that posted a hundred stories claiming Trip was tearing up his contract.
22 Jun 2026 07:42:54
Football Insider just a load of made up rubbish.
22 Jun 2026 11:33:15
Football Outsider, more like it.
