Ive said it before and I will say it again, we need more pace at the back, it was ok in league 1 where the strikers didn't have the ability to exploit this weakness but in the championship players will spot and target this, who knows?, maybe the sale of batth could be a chance to rebuild our defence with more pace and proven championship quality.

Paddy Harris

1.) Been today, I know it's a friendly but not impressed. I feel we need strengthening down the spine of our team! Mid table at very very best with this squad! Paul Tamworth

2.) 02 Aug 2014 22:18:12
Sale??? Hope not

3.) The season hasn't started and you want to get rid of our best player danny bathe won't let you down

4.) Are you having a laugh Paddy

5.) 03 Aug 2014 20:00:12
Well if you want experience at the back look no further than Foley, Johnson, Elokobi and Ward all at no extra cost. Thought not.

6.) Should bid for Adam Forshaw who is unsettled at Brentford and wants out. Wigan already had two bids rejected but likely that he will go sooner rather than later and Brentford unhappy with Wigans public approach.

7.) 03 Aug 2014 21:39:14
I'd like to see Forshaw here. We'd be fools to not even try.

8.) We drew with a team that finished 9th in the one of the best leagues in the world. Have some confidence in what we are trying to achieve.

Realistically we will only sign more players when we get rid of group 3. Most of these will be gone at worst summer next year. Only O'hara will be left then.

9.) 04 Aug 2014 14:20:57
I agree with you DAT. We are still in the process of transformation and we shouldn't expect too much too soon. I can't blame Morgan for not putting any more money in, having already seen how easily it gets wasted, and how hard it is to undo past mistakes. If it takes 2 or 3 seasons to turn Wolves into a team ready for the Premier then so be it. At least we're moving the right way.

10.) If you expect nothing that's exactly what you get, If they adjust the entry prices to reflect ambition that Ok . The potential at the club is enormous let's live it!

11.) I don't want to sound like a management consultant, but we must manage people's expectations. 2 types of Wolves fans one lot who have 2 seasons in EPL, next step Europe and 40,000 seat stadium Then there is the complete pessimists where nothing is right.

I think we are somewhere in the middle at present, we don't know how good the players we have are, every challenge that has been set they have achieved. Let's wait and see.

12.) 05 Aug 2014 08:31:01
Yebbut the potential for failure is also huge, as we saw, so let's not start taking any risks, especially expensive ones.

I don't expect nothing. I do expect to see a team out there trying to win rather than turning up to collect their pay. I expect our owner to make sure the business end of the club is secure. I expect our manager to make good decisions. I believe I will see 3 out of 3 this season.

Why didn't griffiths or Doyle start against Crewe today, their our best two strikers, far better than Cassidy and are more likely to get you a goal, and Cassidy doesn't even link play that well for a target man.

Paddy Harris

1.) Saving them for sat

2.) What's happening on Saturday?

3.) I know I'm going sale shopping unless he means the game on Sunday when we play LEYTON ORIENT

4.) Thank god for that, I thought my tickets had the wrong date on them.

While batth is a fine defender he was burnt constantly by mason and co.
As I said he is also interchangeable with the other center backs.
And the person who said stearman is to unreliable, yes he was unreliable in the prem but in the prem teams need 1 or 2 chances to score, in league one teams need 5 or 6 to score
Also see my post on Egor filipenko

Paddy Harris

1.) Okay so to you stearman has never looked troubled this season? He hasn't really made any mistakes that are of remembrance? I can, the howler at bristol city comes to mind

WILKO

2.) When he got burnt for pace, that's one of the main reasons for needing faster players

3.) When he was he was burnt for pace by the right winger, that was the point of the post, needing faster defenders, I like batth but him and ricketts are just to slow and doherty isn't quick either,
Stearman at least has good positional sense in league 1 but he still needs a fast player in side him to cover

4.) I thought Ebanks-Landell looked really good, wouldn't be worried if he played tbh

15 Sep 2013 20:19:20
Wolves should watch egor filipenko from BATE he is fast and should be cheap and has low wages

Paddy Harris

1.) Our odds of signing a player from the likes of Borisov are 0 at the moment. Maybe when we're back in the Championship we'll be in a position to attract players from Europe.

2.) Foreigners like to play in England and if were doing well in January and are top with 50 odd points its worth an inquiry.
And were famous out in eastern Europe because of our success in the 50's and 60's

3.) European football or league one, you take your pick

4.) Take a risk and make an offer, he's only worth £700k and he's played in turnips so he would be good

While This has been a good start to the season, we have a massive problem with the pace of the defence, as goldbourne is the only defender with any pace so quick attackers will rip us to shreds, like Leighton orients mooney, while having a funny name is unbelievably pacy and would destroy any of ricketts, batth or Doherty for pace, there fine defenders but no pace between them.
Stearman has a bit more pace than the others but even he doesn't have enough, the sort of organisation I believe we need is like so:

Goldborne Ricketts Stearman Doherty

Batth is interchangeable with ricketts and we need to get a pacy center half on loan to play inside Doherty.

Paddy Harris

1.) Are you serious? Batth has been our best defender this year closely followed by doherty! Losing them would kill us. Stearman isn't reliable, I agree ricketts gets done on the wing so put him in the centre with batth with it going like

ikeme
doherty batth ricketts golbourne

ricketts is a great captain, this would be my defence, and pace isn't everything like in fifa, if you can position yourself well its a struggle for a striker to break through. Believe me i'm a striker and I don't have anything to write home about with pace but I honestly find it easier to play against with defenders with pace than players who can position themselves well

WILKO

2.) 15 Sep 2013 21:46:07
Forest are to sign sako with view to a permanent deal in jan.

3.) WHAT - you're dropping Batth! The best defender we have had in 2 years, priceless.

4.) Forest can have him, went AWOL on Saturday, rather have siggy

5.) Forest can put up the required funds, or go forth and multiply with Notts county across the Trent

6.) Are you basing this on playing FIFA? How much pace do Vidic/Ferdinand, Terry/Cahill, Distin/Jagielka etc all have?

There aren't that many pacey CB's around to be honest!

All pacey defenders do is rely on pace to bail them out on bad positional sense ala Kyle Walker, Glen Johnson.

Good defenders make up for lack of pace with all the other attributes!

7.) 16 Sep 2013 10:12:50
Good feedback Wilko. And isn't the modern game so much about position? How often do we see, especially on TV, goals going in because the defenders are caught ball-watching.

What made John Terry such a great defender? It wasn't his pace.

8.) Paddy Harris has been playing to much FIFA! PACE PACE PACE.

9.) Cheers McWulf

WILKO

10.) 16 Sep 2013 13:26:11
Pace if you are playing wing backs. And I think our FBs are pacy enough for the style we play. Or we would have kept Ward and Hunt. For CBs, why is pace so important? We must continue with Danny Batth.

11.) As I said batth and ricketts are interchangeable but you have to admit against Swindon mason and co. burnt our whole defensive line

12.) Slowest player I ever saw on a football pitch was a guy named Bobby Moore, you might have heard of him, Paddy.

13.) just stupid, no matter how much you hope and pray danny batth will not become bobby Moore, there compleatly different styles of play, Moore was a footballing center half and bath just isn't, and that's forgetting the noticeable ability difference.a slow thug type center half is great as long as you have a quick footballer next to him.
Ricketts is not quick.

14.) Yes but we don't have bobby Moore do we, anyway batth and Moore are compleatly different styles of play as Moore was a footballing center half and batth is a thug type center half, let alone the obvious ability difference, my point is bath is great when he has someone running straight at him but when they go past he can't catch them an ricketts isn't fast enough to make the ground either

15.) Also I don't think batth is our best defender we've had in the last 2 years, zubar was.

the reason mclean dosent wear a poppy is because it not only symbolises ww1 & 2, but all subsequent conflicts that british forces were involved in, including the troubles.

Just to clear, where 'Clementine's' is put, I ment clementines.
Damn you autocorrect.

If we get him would suggest that we are going to play more long ball next year to the target man, not complaining but sigurdason isn't a proven goal scorer, do we want him up on his own?

Paddy Harris

Why would he not be offered a contract?
Not the best 'footballer' but runs his clementines off and you need one of those in any midfield.

Just replying to a few above posts, firstly, I don't want to sell batth as he is probably our strongest defender but there is a rumour that villa are planning a £5million bid for batth if vlaar goes, also, I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist, and you can't honestly say that we shouldn't take defensive changes into consideration when stepping up a level like this.

Edwards works hard, and that is fine in league 1, but if you want a runner go and buy mo Farah because in the championship he will be found out.

Paddy Harris

Only realistically need 2 more wins, 92 points is always enough.

Paddy Harris

Their both rubbish.
Doyle and griffiths are far better than the two because cassidy can't link play even though he's a target man, and sigerdason just isn't very good.
