Since most of us seem to agree we need another striker. Which strikers out-of-contract are available right now? Of those who would be worth a try?

Jesse Lingard?

Apparently Wolves have shown an interest according to sky in lingard

I don't think Jesse is a striker New more of a winger but I actually think it's a really good shout! We've lost Podence and Adama and not replaced either (which also means freed up their wages). He would offer a different option from the bench which we currently really lack and at a push could probs play off Sasa. So for me then yes on a free Lingard on a years contract with a years option would be a great bit of business. Think it's unlikely mind, think he's about to get a short term deal at WHU but we definitely need him more! ?

Apparently we're offering a contract to Lingard in the coming days. Personally no thanks, good player with a crap attitude, only interested in the money!

Bright Enobakhare?

According to Sky Sports, we're on the verge of offering him a contract.

Two and bit years ago at West Ham Lingard was brilliant - tore us to shreds. But since then he has failed to deliver so he would be a gamble. Is South Banker correct?
Completely agree with BB though, def could play as a winger and def could play off Sasa, although surely Cunha will play there?
Net net for me a gamble that may be worth taking as at the moment we do look a little short of the magic that will open teams up. Neto and Cunha might do it at their best but relying on that happening is another gamble.
Sadly though I expect him to sign for WH so its probably a moot point!

Thing is guys, surely he's better than no option at all?! As we are currently seriously lacking when chasing! He's also capable of getting the odd goal, another thing we lack! Surely something is better than nothing? Just so long as we aren't chucking about more three year contracts like we did with Docs ??

I thought Bright moved on? As did Corbeneu who would have been another option.

Agree South Banker. Def would cause trouble in the camp. He'd sell his soul if the price was right.

If Lingard on a short term contract, I would think he'd bust his butt and do well to try to get a longer term deal later. I realize he may be more a winger, especially now at later age, but many wingers can do some shifts up top at times.

West ham fans would not welcome lingard back and he cudnt even get in the forest side so no thanks.another desperate move in the costa mould.

Funny Bux cause I know some WHU fans and they have absolutely no problem with him coming back. Why would they have a problem with a winger that scored 9 goals in 16 games for um?! As for Forest well he played in 17 matches last season so just shy of half the Prem matches they played last season but other than that ya bang on the money! ?
I can't argue with your last point in that it is a move similar/desperate like the Costa signing but I would ask have you not been watching us this season?!
Sorry gents but I think some peeps need a reality check, we are looking very average going forward with little sign of changing! Would Lingard be anyone's first choice, no! Is he better than no choice, absolutely he is! We currently don't have enough attacking players to effectively change games, we can't sign anyone but freebies so what's the answer?! And if peeps think 18 year olds that haven't kicked a ball at the top level are a better option than Lingard well let's just see, cause that approach was exactly why Fabio wanted to leave!

You've missed Deb's sarcasm there Bully's. He's played just the 18 games in the last 5 seasons in waywardly diverse places (Coventry, Bengal, Greece, Israel and Ukraine). It says much for his career choices that he's ended up in Ukraine. What a waste of undoubted talent.

Haha, fair do's Old. Sorry guys completely missed that one! ? And I agree with you, Bright was talented but never quite did it. How's Otasowie getting on? I always thought he looked like one of the most exciting youngsters to come through ?

Last time I heard he was turning out for Bruges reserves Bully's and is another who potentially isn't going to make the most of his talents.

Mite as well hav kept podence than bring in lingard.and I also know some whu fans who don't want him back . when they offered him a contract but went to forest for more money.if he isn't good enuf for forest that makes him good enuf for us does it!

I think Bully's something is better than nothing comments are appropriate to your comments Bux.

I actually agree Buxton, on paper it would have made FAR more sense keeping Podence. The only problem there is that as two managers had made him train with the u21's along with both calling him out on attitude then I'm afraid it clearly wasn't an option to have him around the rest of the squad no doubt spilling out bile and barbed comments! And regarding your comment 'if he isn't good enough for Forest how's he good enough for us' well I would have to refer you to the table, which has Forest 7 places above us on double the points!
Like I said I think he's better than nothing?! Forest have four recognised wingers on there books, we have two! It's a simple case of options, which currently we just don't have! Ironically (as I said at the time) the player we should have been in for and also who (pretty much) won those points for Forest was Elanga but we didn't so we are where we are. In truth I'm not sure why Adama, Chiquinho and Podence were let got when we weren't replacing them, you'd have to ask Jeff on that one I'm afraid?!

20.) 06 Sep 2023
06 Sep 2023 19:44:28
BB in Nuno's last game Elanga looked far too good for us and I suggested then that we should look at him. United signed him on a free (cf Fabio who is the same age) and we probably could have had him for less than £10m at that stage - transfer market rated him at less than £1m at the time. Forest I gather paid slghtly more perhaps £15m and thus to be honest until the Nunes transfer he was probably beyond our means.
As with all of the clubs dealings Jeff is your man!

Agreed as usual Future buddy. And as usual, you make a fair point in that he'd already signed for Forest before we had any cash on the hip. Pretty sure I was at the match when Elanga scored his first senior goal against us (I think in the cup). Always looked like a player full of potential, be interesting to see if he can keep it up.
If only Jeff was the man eh, let's hope Hobbs has been in full control this window cause as you've rightly pointed out we (literally:) can't afford to keep making the same mistakes in the market! ??
