In my experience with football, desire will always beat ability.

The premiership is full of fantastic teams separated by very close margins. i'm all about getting behind the talented boys we have and hoping we get some free signings along the way.

Gary o Neill seems a likeable, intelligent and humble bloke, reminds me of Kenny J a bit.

He's not going to win the champions league next year but I think our support with his drive and you will be surprised at results IF we start well. Fingers crossed ?.

I will be there for the opener at the mol. And sometimes enjoy what you have got not what you haven't.

I think our scouts/recruitment team should take a look at brightons setup.a 5mil.purchase being sold for 111 mil.we can't even compete with a team like brighton.and isn't it ironic that our longterm target is signing for the new managers previous team.bloody pathetic.fosun need to rethink their entire strategy.or get out now

You are indeed correct about Brighton but it's not really there scouting team it's mostly there owner! Tony Bloom is a stone cold genius and overseas most elements of the clubs recruitment (including managers) and he does so all through statistical analysis! It's similar to how he made his millions, he was working in finance and woke up one day and decided he could make more through large betting but doing so using a system HE created led by (serious) statistical analysis and to say it worked would be an understatement, he now applies this approach to all of the clubs recruitment!
I mean they really are one of the best run clubs around right now but without Tony Bloom it would be virtually impossible to replicate (saddly)! Remember when they signed De Zerbi and got ridiculed by most of the 'in the know' pundits?! Well he new exactly what they were doing! Just like he did when they signed Evan Ferguson (who was being tracked by all the big clubs, City, Pool etc) so he sat Ferguson down and said sign for us and a) we will play you before those clubs would and b) at the right time we will sell you to one of those clubs for a massive profit and you'll get better wages! Which they will, he'll probs be there next £100+ sale next season! Seriously have a look on the line, Tony Blooms story is a very interesting one!
Doesn't help us mind, the guys got more sporting knowledge than Fosun collectively! ?

It is what it is Bux totally understand your views.

We all have our own outlooks on our club.

I personally will wait to see how we get on before I can pass judgement with our season.
At present all I feel is more hope than usual down to lopetegui walking out and our position having already spent funds for signings this summers window.
Looking on the hope that Nunes cunha sarabia all gel and perform to their price tags under our new manager and his staff.
Don't want major injuries as we have had as that hasn't helped us at all with jiminez Neto sasa 3 big ones that come to mind.
Our owners I accept aslong as they own us and keep us in premier league so we can keep growing as nothing that I can do to change our owners.
We haven't gone pear shaped Pete tounge ruined so until that changes I remain positive and with hope.
Can't see nothing different I don't feel the way I do other than give up and stop being a wolves nut.

I think you will find it’s was the director of Football Dan Ashworth. Formerly of West Brom he has since gone to Newcastle as he is the most sort after DOF in the country.

Taken from an interesting Atheletic article about it:
'The starting point for Brighton’s ability to source low-cost gems is the worldwide data on players of owner-chairman Tony Bloom, which nobody else can replicate.

The 53-year-old sports betting entrepreneur has his own software that filters the whole market. The algorithm is a secret, kept even from those inside the club.

Brighton are a client of Bloom’s company, Starlizard, buying in the data that supports the recruitment programme.

Scouts are sent a list of names to watch and compile reports on players who have passed the data tick list, based on factors such as age and match minutes.

A traffic light system is used for reports. Green means a great fit, amber is for players close to fitting the criteria, and red is for monitoring.'
Like I said the man's a genius!

Bux, the money in football nowadays is outrageous, however I think every club wants to unearth that hidden gem. Leicester did it a few years ago with Kante, as did Southampton a few years before that with the likes of Lallana, Lambert etc.

Wolves policy is based mainly on securing youth players and guiding them into the 1st team. Bueno, Neto, Kilman, Hodge, Toti spring to mind.

To my mind all this JLo and finance business doesn't add up to what we were being told. I'm sure the board and even Jeff aren't so incompetent that at the start of the transfer window they got the safe spend amount wrong. It doesn't explain why the net safe spend changed at least twice

To me the one scenario that explains it all is this:-

Everything is just about OK at the end of the season except a few dissenters in the dressing room (Podence Moutinho) as Jlo exerts his control over the dressing room.
JLO then getting on a few players nerves and unsettling the board. A few signs of petulance.
JLo gets a quiet word from above, he takes exception.
Things get progressively worse, the board think he's likely to walk or if things worsen they want him out. Players sticking together.
JLo gets wind of unrest with the board, they come back and reign in the spend as he may go.
JLo doesn't have any of that and cries to the press.
The board have had it, give him no money to spend, effectively forcing him out. They don't want him and this is the cheapest way to get him out, he doesn't lose face but doesn't get a full pay-out.

If the purse strings are loosened a little in the window then it will be plain that they didn't trust him to stay or that he wasn't the right fit.

I honestly can't think of any other explanation of the scenario where we first put in 20 million bids, then look for young n hungry to then looking at free signings.

Tim there may be something in what you say. I've wondered if the camp had become fictionalised.

Nuno had built a tightly knit squad where many were almost assured of a start due mainly to lack of competition.

Lage came in and carried on with mostly the same players and was successful to a point but at some stage lost the dressing room, most likely with his criticism of Hoever.

New players were signed in the following window but the performances weren't good enough and the club struggled to move on players who had been here for a while for various reasons.

JLo came in signed 6 new faces and initially performances looked good before tailing off again.

So GON now inherits a squad more or less free of the Nuno championship players and first prem season regulars.

Let's see what happens because as someone said in a prior post it's hard to see how all of this couldn't impact on the squad but all these things said pre season hasn't been to bad. I think we'll know after 4 matches!
