If my memory serves me, a young Frank Munro was playing for Aberdeen in that 1967 final - playing midfield / inside forward at that point.

Thanks for the clarifications - I understood that the seedings for the preliminary round had not been made yet.

The dates given on the BBC site are mad. According to the information given if we qualify for the last Europa place and get to this years Europa final we will have to play next years preliminary round [20th August] before this years final [21st August].
As for the rest of the permutations, my understanding is that if we [or ManU] qualify for the CL by winning the Europa then only the first 3 in the Prem will get into CL and 4th place will go into Europa. England have only 4 CL places regardless of how they qualify - same with other countries if someone else wins Europa.

Tousart is a good player but not sure why we would need another defensive midfielder in addition to Neves and Saiss. If we get another midfield player it should be a more forward or box to box player who can score goals - which Tousart doesn't. Goals from central midfield is an area we can improve on.

It would be 31 if Frimpong hadn't retired! Plus no mention of Anderson Talisca yet.

Jas - For information looking at the list on the BBC website, 13 Prem clubs have signed at least one player that could reasonably be considered to be in or around the first team. We are one of the 7 who have made no significant signing, along with Villa, Manchester U, Burnley, Everton [although they seem to have agreed a fee for Allan], West Ham and Leicester.

Surely if it was about Fosun asset stripping etc then it would not be Doc that was being sold - small fee and on relatively low wages.
Nevertheless it is a very strange sale in the circumstances if linked to lots of other question marks - very poor transfer window last summer and a very slow start to this one when we really should have done our homework and been ready to go - Dalrymple and Thelwell not replaced - Nuno's contract situation plus his end of season comments - why isn't Nuno part of the transfer committee etc etc.
Guess we'll have to try and stay patient and pass judgement after the window is closed but I for one would really like to know what is going on behind the scenes at the Mol.

With Villa in the Prem I can only hope we cure the habit of losing to bottom 3 sides next season!

I think we would all agree that we need another striker to support / compete with Raul and Diogo, but in my opinion a big part of the problem is a lack of goals from central midfield [apart from set pieces]. None of our current central midfield consistently make runs ahead of the strikers into the box. This needs to change either via the way we play or by bringing in new players.

On a slightly different thread, can anyone work out where we are going to find 8 'home grown' players, over 21 yrs, for our 25 man premier league squad. I can work out Norris, Ruddy, Coady, Batth, Bennett, Hause. Not sure if Doc fits the criteria, also is Bright over 21 - if so he may meet the regulations.
I wonder whether this is one of the reasons we still have the likes of Iorfa, EEL, Graham and Mason are still around!
