Lopetegui seems a certainty to be our next manager. Seville has a replacement lined up and the bookies are offering 1/5.

bobsbest

1.) 05 Oct 2022 11:56:24
If that's the case, let's hope that we don't pay any compensation because he's about to be sacked!

2.) 05 Oct 2022 12:55:21
pparantly he's arriving tomorrow.

3.) 05 Oct 2022 13:50:02
Well Sky have reported that Lopetegui is Wolves preferred candidate and they are waiting to see what happens at Sevilla.

You have to wonder if Wolves intend to interview anyone else or because they know him, having offered him the job before, they're going for the quickest option.

{Ed002's Note - Wolves want Sevilla to sack him.}

4.) 05 Oct 2022 14:24:16
One assumes all parties working on a win-win scenario.
Little concerned he has lost 24 games out of the last 38.
Also Seville are 17th in the Spanish league.
In a recent interview, he apparently came over as jaded and in need of a break.
Ah well, let's hope for the best.

5.) 05 Oct 2022 14:23:24
I know Ed002 it probably all hinges on tonight's game against Dortmund, apparently.

{Ed002's Note - No, they would sack him regardless, the issue is that JM has already lined him up with another job and Sevilla would expect Wolves to pay his severance package but not compensation.}

6.) 05 Oct 2022 15:00:50
It all smacks of the easy option to me and, yet again, too much reliance on Mendez.

7.) 05 Oct 2022 17:59:35
Yeah I do know what you mean Rugeley, cause when we originally wanted him he was on the rise. The fact he got the Spain job instead shows as much, he then followed that with Real. The concern is that he is now on a downward trajectory. Don't get me wrong in terms of stature we would be lucky to get him but at this stage in the season when we are already in the dreaded zone well I just hope he would come in with the right mind set. Time will tell but when you listen to Podence interview it really does sound like Lage let the rot set in! Sounds like the whole team need a rocket up there backsides let's hope who ever gets the job has that in their arsenal otherwise I really do worry where we will be playing next season! ?

8.) 05 Oct 2022 18:30:18
Has been my thinking fir a while ref Lopotenui - Sevilla a good squad but he's not hot a tune out if them this season.sound familiar?
He's lost the majority of games this season, Sevilla are 27th in their league, and he admits he's knackered and needs a break.
Hmmmmm
Yes he has a good prior reputation.but.☹️
You reckon?
I'd much prefer Amorin - very hot and on the rise - sure he's in a good team and would cost and need oersuading

9.) 05 Oct 2022 18:44:26
Tbf though he did lose all his best players including his CBs.

10.) 05 Oct 2022 20:48:28
I'm with you Rollo or the one from Porto whose name I can never spell. This looks like a lazy appointment as Bullys has said in 2016 his stock was rising, but not now.

We need a Manager brimming with confidence who will make the players sit up and pay attention. Don't get me wrong that may be Lopetegui or we had better hope it is.

Relegation Battle:
Looking at the remaining fixtures and key games it would seem that Forest and Southampton look most likely to go down. Our home game with Everton looks key. Win it and I think we are safe sending Everton down. Lose it and we are in real trouble. Bournemouth are the other contender but they have 6 games still to play with the relegation teams. They are likely to survive in my view. Normally I would expect Leicester to survive but sacking their manager is a complete unknown on future results although with a manager they have been poor

Brendan Rogers sacked, another new manager bounce on the way from a team below us.

2.) 03 Apr 2023 06:59:04
.and now LongmyndWolf, Potter gone. Hope it is a "Dead cat's bounce" effect on Saturday!
ps
Was quite amused to see reports of Marinakis giving Cooper and their players a right going over after our game. Even reports he threatened Cooper with thew sack!

3.) 03 Apr 2023 08:07:41
They'll come thick and fast now Rugeley. I think our Coach and his staff should set a better example and stop behaving like a gang of soccer Mums.

I did submit an 'create new post' yesterday on leadership, which still hasn't appeared. Having said that my previous one took 8 hours, not sure why.

4.) 03 Apr 2023 09:29:32
Hi Wolves supporter from 1942 to date. I have seen the best and the worst teams, but I must say the present team game plan is boring, I know I am an old un, but the monotonous defensive play from midfield back to the keeper sends me to sleep. Wolves were a great counter attacking team last season. I must say also in all premier teams most team managers and staff on the bench are adding to the trouble with their over the top antics. In the Stan Cullis era, all there was only wooden plank across the players entrance, with old Jack Davies seated, with the away teams trainer each with a galvanised bucket of water and sponge.

5.) 03 Apr 2023 10:20:06
Welcome Old Un, fond memories indeed. Those were different times and a different generation of people, no doubt.

6.) 03 Apr 2023 16:47:39
Welcome old un, as they say it's a different game now, but I also like to think we had a better mentality then, we accepted a foul and gave out a foul, this VAR stuff only gives more reason for complaint with the silly 'toe' 'elbow' etc being offside after a 5 minute wait. But your oh so right about the boring short goal kicks and passing across and back, it's not just us either and nothing normally comes from it accept a goal against.

04 Mar 2023 11:49:02
What do people think about our midfield? I have seen a few comments that it is ok. I am not so sure. We are blessed with defensive midfielders -Neves, Nunes, Gomes, Lemina, Moutinho, B Traore immediately come to mind. Let's look at our attacking midfielders.exactly we haven't got any. In my opinion that is why we create so few chances and rely on crosses of mostly poor quality.

1.) 04 Mar 2023 12:13:54
Agree Bob,this was a point I made on another thread although I think Bouba could fill that position.

2.) 04 Mar 2023 13:44:38
Spot on bobsbest, but bare in mind Neves, Nunes and Mouts could well be gone this summer leaving the door open and the money for more attacking replacements.

But for the here and now you and Winton are correct. This is one of the reasons for our somewhat 'blunt' attack, imo.

05 Jan 2023 10:46:48
Thought we played really well in the first half and worth a 2 goal lead. Unfortunately we only got one and paid for it later. In general we need upgrades for Somedo, Moutinho, Hwang and Costa and we only got Cunha in the 2nd half although Ait Nouri continues to impress as an attacking option. I would like to see Jimenez and Cunha starting. Podence and Nunes best games for Wolves so far

bobsbest

1.) 05 Jan 2023 12:34:57
Well its written in the shirts 'better never stops'. It did at half time last night.

2.) 05 Jan 2023 12:41:25
We play Liverpool at the weekend and I am sure they will tell us who we need to sign for them so they can buy them in the summer om the never never.

3.) 05 Jan 2023 12:49:14
I was listening in on talk sport and was unsure where Rayan was playing.

It sounded like he was playing as a wide man in the front 3. is that correct?

4.) 05 Jan 2023 15:14:59
Played in front of beuno essentially to help cut the viles threat down the right but also to go forward given the chance, which he did with some skill bringing a palmed save from martinez GDawg.

5.) 05 Jan 2023 16:42:58
Oh I see. Thanks Abbeywolf. That makes sense. When I look at our squad, he is easily the best player on the bench at present. Be good if we can utilise him more so nice to see him in a different position.

6.) 05 Jan 2023 17:49:02
He's attracting a lot of attention GDawg, man city and Saville apparently interested and it's no wonder given his performances of late. Definitely not a proper full back but in going forward excellent. Likes to hold onto the ball abit too long at times tho. He replaced hwang who was also on a yellow.

Martinez saves two pens for Argentina and is the hero. 16 games on loan to us 2015-16 we taught him everything!

I know some other posters have a go at this but thought I would give my ratings for the Southampton game.
Sa-7. I rate Sa highly. He does have a few blunders in him but generally excellent.Opposition realise how good he is at quick distribution and have started blocking him. needs protection
Otto-8. I have had some worries about Jonny. He didn't seem up to pace in previous games getting caught in possession several times but he had a great game particularly in forward areas.
Ait Nouri 6- Another guy I like but being young he is frustrating and blows hot and cold. Potentially high quality in attack. Needs to stop switching off and do things earlier
Kilman 8- Another good game. Rarely let's you down and can find a pass
Collins-6 A little shaky at times and maybe unfair to give just 6 as mostly he played ok
Neves 9-Another captain's performance. Went missing a few games last season but now is world class every game. Captaincy has been the final icing on a wonderful cake
Moutinho 6- Some good tackles but getting booked most games. No incise passing and I hope the new Traore challenges him. Great servant though.
Nunes 8- First games he looked off the pace and weak in the tackle. In this game he showed a lot of class and if the improvement continues we have a great player
Podence 7- Took his goal well. I am not convinced of this scuffed shot allegation. looked like a clever clip over the keeper to me. Usual few missed passes but always lively
Neto 6- Somewhat frustrating. Lots of pace but making wrong decisions currently. Hopefully this will improve with games.
Kalajdzic 6- Does seem a lot like Crouch. But for £15m that may be good business. Injury history not good though.
Guedes 6- Not seen much from this guy yet but too early to be too negative
Traore 6- Thought Lage might have put him up front when Mr K injured. That would have given Soton something to think about. I like Traore but like most on here we need to see more if he stays.
Hwang 6- There is a player there but confidence shot. Tried very hard at pressing and had some success. Booing him is ridiculous

1.) 04 Sep 2022 12:04:28
That summed it up pretty well bobsbest imo. Neto has been off for a long time so it won't come back overnight and each week we are seeing the newbies get settled in a bit more.

2.) 04 Sep 2022 17:30:55
Neto needs to start putting first time balls across. We look so dangerous when we do.

3.) 04 Sep 2022 18:51:18
Bobsbest - many tks appreciated! I did a ratings post each week a couple of years ago but haven't managed to see as many games this last year or so and consequently haven't done one for a while!

On paper Amorin looks another Nuno/Lage type. Success in Portugal but no premier league experience. However, he plays a high pressing style, which I like and he may get a tune out of Nunes, which would be a boost. The best of the others touted is Villas Boas. He has PL experience, however if he had a say in the spending of the £85m Spurs got for Bale, then I am not impressed. He bought 6 players and only Eriksen proved to be any good.

Dendonker is always going to divide opinion. He is one of those players that managers love as they provide lots of options when injuries occur but does not appear to do much except pop up for the odd goal (hero) or give away a pen (villain) . Depending on your age Martin Peters, Gareth Barry or Fabian Delph come to mind. Ideally you want someone who is defensively sound can create stuff and can run eg Bryan Robson or Gerrard. Unfortunately they don't come along that often so managers settle for in between. If we get a Robson or Gerrard I would be happy but probably not going to happen.

Absolutely agree Oxleymoor. I just love a midfielder who finds the gaps and channels. Do you think he will be a starter soon? He should be!

We all need to take a deep breath here. If we are to believe Fosun then we can't spend any money of any significance due to FFP rules. If that is true then it does not matter who owns the club or how rich they are we are stuck. JL had already decided it was not for him so if he had stayed this negativity would have got to the players. We are where we are. We now have a young well regarded coach. I have no idea how it will play out but I will know where we are after a few games by seeing how we play. I don't think you can rely on the Bournemouth type of play as he was in a relegation scrap. If we continue in the way we played against Rennes we will be fine and finish mid table. I can't think of a single Wolves player who is not going to give this guy a chance. They are mostly young and want to learn and progress. The senior players in the club are all grounded and have no egos that have been displayed to date. The background staff will be more interesting as he starts with no-one and I am not aware that he has a ready made crew. I wish him all the luck in the world. After six games or so let's all review.

Agree with your relegation teams Jas, but I think it is still dicey for Forest. I am not sure how they get 8 points from here. I think about 3 or 4 but they should still just about survive!

Agree Preston entirely. Our 2 scorers of any note are Neves who plays defensive midfield and Podence who warms the bench as you say. I can't remember tha last time a Wolves player picked a pass in or near the box. Sadly MGW picked a handful in one game. 65% possession and we were clearly second best in every department, tells you everything about Wolves currently. Hopefully we survive and rebuild with a striker and attacking midfielder as top priority

I watched the whole match and agree with most of TFIG comments apart from those below. I have to admit I make excuses for not writing up my ratings so well done to those who do.
Semedo. Agree he had his best match but his end product is always poor. Either a blocked cross or a misplaced pass.
Collins- he had a poor game until the last 10 minutes when he was excellent. Make what you can of that.
RAN- is given a free role. He is quick and gets into good positions but again his end product like Semedo is poor.
Lemedo- like the look of him. Solid and can pick a pass.
Cunha- absolutely agree good forward but not a prolific goalscorer. Please prove us wrong
Moutinho-best game for us for ages. Maybe the beard coming off helped! Several excellent forward passes rather than the sideways stuff.
