Sad sad day when even some of the most loyal and positive of supporters on here believe we will be relegated this season!
Bizarrely I actually believe that the squad is still good enough to survive subject to no major injuries, Dawson continuing his "Indian" summer ( a journeyman pro throughout his career who was brilliant for 6 months at an age when normally players regress not improve!) and Neto, Cunha, Sarabia and one or two others (Fabio or Sasa) finding/refinding their scoring touch.
Yes losing JL, who clearly both inspired and organised the side to a level that Lage was totally unable to do, will make it more difficult. However O'Neil still has a talented squad and hopefully he will be able to maintain the levels of proffesionalism put in place by JL.
Frankly I am crossing fingers and hoping- not much else we can do sadly!

I agree Future but what worries me is that where JL was able to enthuse and develope obviously talented players I fear that this will not continue and we will soon see players performing below their maximum with results going against us. This will produce a spiral where lack of confidence and a high level of confusion will see us becoming a team with no identity or team spirit and subsequently tumbling down the table. Having been optimistic about the coming season I now fear for our immediate future.

The squad thin asitis should be good enuf to stay up.its more IF they will.play for o neil as they probably won't even know who he is.and if they do stay up.what then.he kept bmouth up and they sacked him.this can only be classed asa massive backward step

develop talented players? who did lopetugui develop?the football that was played was the same mediocre rubbish that lage played the only difference was Dawson came in ( a player that was already due to come in until west ham pulled the plug last summer) lemina Gomes and a ridiculous price paid for cunha . the so called super coach got his backside handed to him against Brighton and arsenal. I am glad he has gone the only downside is the club have had pay to get rid of a manger who has done nothing but moan when knowing the situation. o'neil is not the answer going forward but A . he wants to be here b. the football we are watching can be no worse than the previous 2 managers have played and c. he has a better squad than he had at Bournemouth.loptugui came with all the glamour and brought nothing but boring containment based football good riddance to a bad egg

Regards Dawson, yes I suppose a journeyman but he's got a good younger skilled footballer in Kilman alongside him. Paul McGrath was terrific well into his 30's. The ability to read the game in the centre half position therefore not being caught out of position and having to use energy to get back or risk lunging dangerous tackles is critical. Bobby Moore was another who played late into his career.
