50 years ago tonight - 1st leg at Molineux, UEFA Cup Final, Wolves v Spurs. The rest is as they say 'football history'.

The hope I had after beating juventus, the disappointment at playing an English club in the final and then as you say foxinnwolf the rest is history. Oh the pains of being a wolves fan. Great days all the same.

I was there Fox, a Chivers goal cost us, the following weekend I broke my leg playing football and couldn't make the second leg at White Hart Lane.
However, in that game Waggy also scored a screamer, in off the post, but to no avail.

That tie was so close Fox, fine margins split the teams and we could have won that trophy that year.

Remember it well and it was disappointing not to win the Eufa cup but it wasn’t a full house on the night unlike the Leeds game the following week which eased the pain.

One of the best bits of football I ever witnessed was against Spurs in the 70's. Waggy turned 4 Spurs players inside out whilst attacking the North Bank on the left wing, cut inside and let fly a rocket towards the top corner and he could hit 'em.
Pat Jennings didn't just get up and palm it over the bar, he actually got both hands to the ball and caught it. The whole of the Mol just rose in spontaneous applause.

AbbeyWolf. Yes, after beating Juve, then Ferencvaros in the semis, it looked like the Cup was arguably ours. However, Spurs were always going to be that extra tough nut to crack, simply because they knew 'our game' from the domestic league. They didn't fancy us either, and Bill Nicholson said after the game at the Lane, that overall the best side had lost.

LongMyndWolf. Yes, was at the Lane that night too of course. Remember Waggies goal well. Cut inside and let fly from 25 yards or so. Flew past Jennings, hit his far post and nestled in the back of the net. Too little too late after Mullerys opening headed goal from a free kick for Spurs put them three one ahead overall. Jennings was a class keeper, and to be beaten like that from Waggy was testament to how good Waggy was. He didn't score as many as he made sadly.

LongmyndWolf.Indeed so LMW.We lost the tie at Molineux conceding that late Martin Chivets thirty five yard bombshell. Phil Parked in my humble opinion shouldn't have been beaten at his near post by that, however thunderous it was!

Still a NES. Fine margins yes.Not much really between Wolves and Spurs over the two legs, however I thought Spurs were the classier football side!

E from Wombourn. Surprisingly the 'official' gate at Molineux in the first leg was something around forty thousand,whereas a week or so later when Leeds came down for that elusive point they needed to claim the double,after winning the FAvCup at Wembley two days previously, the gate was given as Fifty four thousand! I was there too that infamous night, and I had it on a good and sound source that there was at least Sixty thousand in the ground with another twenty thousand locked out! The old wooden Waterloo Road stand was creaking and groaning and I swear swaying at one point. Incredible atmosphere, incredible night!
