Can someone please clarify for me. I thought we were not able to sign new players due to FFP. Now it appears we are signing three maybe four new players. Is it because the money from the Nunes transfer has become available.

The Nunes money has certainly helped in enabling us to sign a couple of players but I suspect the money has been there all along.

Another good question, LindsayB and one that only Jeff Shi could answer. For now I am just placing my faith in Matt Hobbs and the recruitment team. It really does look like they know what they are doing. No more last minute signing up of overpriced players from the JM stable. I’ll drink to that!

Nunes was probably an unexpected windfall Lindsay and the players we are acquiring are on long contracts generally so that their cost can be amortised over a longer period. We were probably going to do last minute business anyway it's just that we are now able to acquire more players than anticipated.

Lindsay it is nothing to do with the cash but the FFP profit.
This sale is bunce to those the club stated were required to solve this year's FFP issue and so can be used to "fund" new deals.
Note not only do we make the profit on the sale circa £15m but we also stop amortising his contract at circa £8m a year plus of course his wages. These later two items are reductions in loss ie profits!
This gives us substantial fire power! As Old notes the new players' contracts amortise over their life so a player bought for £10m only costs us 2 each year on a 5 year contract plus wages.
As a word of caution though remember anything we do this window will impact on next year where even after Nunes we still have a not insignificant problem and these purchases will make that worse so Kilman or someone of a similar FFP profit value will need to go. Hence not sure why we aren't buying Elvedi (sp)
