It's claimed that Barcelona have had a massive cash injection from sponsors Spotify.
That being said Neves is probably on his way there this summer. Apparently Wolves want Nico Gonzales their 20 year old who may well tick the 'good enough for now' and 'one for the future' boxes, in equal measure. Not sure we need Puig but Oscar Mingueza may prove valuable in a back 4. Thoughts?

I know this one has been discussed at length on the Rumours page with some disputing Barcelona's ability to buy Neves, hence the suspicion about more swaps.
If, however, Wolves actually want Gonzales and Mingueza could do a job at the back given that Boly and Saiss will likely be gone, does it actually make sense.
Plus if Barcelona actually have money to spend and these players are makeweights with cash involved as well, could this all be to our advantage?

Barca announced in January that Spotify were their new sponsor from next season in a deal worth €280m over 4 years. The stadium will be called Spotify Camp Nou. They still need to sell players bur not quite on the level they did last summer. Getting Messi, Suarez, Coutinho and Griezmann off the payroll certainly helped but media reports still claim that the club is in massive debt and don't have the buying power they did a few years ago. They can't afford to buy Neves outright, hence the swap deal.

With players wanting to play in London, the Northwest, clubs that are investing, Newcastle / Villa or clubs that occasionally win something, Leicester, that only leaves five clubs Wolves are on similar level with when it comes to competing in the transfer market, how are we going to attract players to a club that’s just happy to be making up the numbers and whose best players want to, or are being forced to leave?

You mention Villa and how they are in a similar position to us. Yes they have spent a lot of money but where has it got them. that's right, below us. So although they may be buying more players than us, it seems that we are buying better players than them.

At the end of the 2018/19 season we finished 7th in the Premier League and Villa finished 5th in the Championship.
Since then it could be argued that Villa have progressed while we have stood still Jas M.

{Ed077's Note - Villa have progressed to 14th in the PL (lol), 4 places and 6 points behind Wolves.

Many people were praising Villa's transfers (in) at the end of 2021 summer window. Many had them competing for a European place(me included). Yet they didn't gel quite as hoped and Smith got sacked and Gerrard hasn't done anything amazing yet either. On paper they've done a good job recruiting players for next season too but football isn't played on paper, its played on the field. Let's see how they (and Wolves) fair next season..

Using your logic E, Wolves are one of the most improved teams.

Since end of season 2013/2014 to end of this season, Wolves have improved from 1st in League 1 (45th place in the league - to 10th in the PL. An improvement of 35 places.

Villa, over the same period have gone from 14th place in the PL to 14th place in the PL, so no improvement.

Meanwhile, Man City haven't improved one iota as they were 1st then and 1st now meaning that we have clawed our way towards them.

The point I'm making is that stats can be manipulated to tell you whatever you want it to, however the league table does not lie.

In 2 of the 3 seasons since Villa returned to the PL, we have finished above them, including this season despite them spending 390m euros compared to our 218m eoros.

Jas M the gap between City and ourselves was 42 points this season and therefore the biggest gap between us since we were promoted to the Premier League.
There is more chance of Villa finishing above us next season than us finishing above City.

I get where you are coming from E and probably agree with you. So here is a thought for posters and Ed to comment on. Now we know that Forest are the third promoted team to the Premier league; who would the three teams at THIS stage be to go down?

I look at maybe three stages during the close season and the window to offer suggestions. Looking at the set up and assuming that Wolves would be in the bunch along with the likes of Palace, Southampton, Leeds, Brighton, Brentford, Villa, Leicester etc-my worry is that those team are evolving and strengthening with the possible exception of Southampton.

I don't see Fulham or Forest or struggling-so without any incomings or outgoings at present, Wolves for me would be in the bottom three along with Bournemouth and Southampton. The next stage would be one day before kick off and the third stage after the window closes.

All for fun and interest-no malice intended. Thoughts?

{Ed014's Note - Man Utd, Everton and Spurs for relegation for me! ?

All joking aside really don’t see Wolves in the bottom three.

Phil789 : if MGW has transformed into a 20 Million pound player some of his teammates must be worth looking at.

You could Add Sa, Neves, and Coady to those. They would all go for more than they were signed for at the moment. Neto and Gomes probably aren't far away either Phil.

Jas and the ed made some good points about stats and money. All adds to the excitement of a new season.

Oxley it's a good thing that our players value have gone up.
We sent MGW out on loan and had his best season ever.
You want to not acknowledge that fine by me.
Cheers Alex you get me ?

SQ I can't see wolves in bottom 3 we have had 2 seasons where a lot of fans have been very unhappy yet we were nowhere near relegation trouble and I believe we will better next season than we were in the last 2 seasons.
My bottom 3 Leeds forest Fulham.

SQ I'm going Leeds were really close to relegation this season Bournemouth purely down to I dislike the way they ate allowed to buy players and not improving their lower league standard ground 11k capacity a joke for premier league club.
Fulham they spent over £100millon last time promoted and were relegated.

Always get you Phil.

Leeds, Forest, Fulham. Leeds would have gone this year but Kevin Friend kept them up. Forest unless they make a lot of good signings unfortunately I feel won't be good enough. Fulham I question if their manager is up to it and they will spend but not necessarily well. they'll rely on Mitrovich for goals but he usually falls short in the Prem.

Brentford, Southampton, Bournemouth and Palace I expect to be down there too.

Wolves with a good window 6th or 7th. A bad window 15th. Probably be somewhere in between.
