What do we think about playing Coady next to Neves if he stays?

Not a bad shout there Zachwolf it'd allow Neves to push forward more too and if we're defending a lead towards the end Coady can easily slot in to just infront of back 4.

OK when we have the ball as both are comfortable in possesion and are good passers. But neither is known for their pace or mobility and you fear we may get stretched - as we did last year when Moutinho and Neves played together and Moutinho is/ was a much better midfield player than Coady is/ was.
Sadly our squad as it currently stands can only play with 3CBs as we don't have strong enough CBs to play just 2 nor do we have the mids with legs to cover the 2 if that is what you are playing. 442 doesn't give enough protection to the spine which is where we are weak.
Our best players, ( with a repectful nod to Boly and Neves), at the moment, assuming all fit, are either wide players Neto, Traore, Otto, Semedo going forwards, Podence or a CF Jimenez.
If Lage wants to play 442 we have to buy a top quality CB and a top quality CM.
If we do that we might be able to play 442 but then of course there wouldn't be a place for Coady in CM ( or for that matter at CB) .

Assuming 2 in midfield and he stays, I suspect Neves will be first choice after that who knows. I would like to see a system that can switch to 3 CB from 2 as Rated mentioned but having the personnel is key obviously. Best to just see who signs and what Bruno has in mind as many of the squad are literally still on the beach so to speak.

Yes Zach agree. Of course TFIOG has many valid situations, so we eagerly await the completion of the squad puzzle.

Until we see who's going/ staying goodness knows what sort of team he's going to have! So far as the first game comes around he's going to be running around with a team sheet with blanks on it and question marks.
Good to see Raul get half an hour this afternoon and unsurprisingly being the closest to scoring! Good news, great to see it went well for him.

Certainly is Phil, good to see Lage used him with common sense. A half hour on a crazy hot day was a wise move, mind you being from Mexico it probably suited him more than most. I guess they will step it up now if there is no reaction.
