Poor second half. We got away with one there. Traore can't defend. Nice to see Nuno starting with Podence instead of his usual favourite. With five midfielders, three wingers and two defenders we will be found out against better teams.

Podence looks v promising. Calm on the ball and a good passer. With Fabio arriving as well where does that leave Jota?

Our attacking players 6 of them:Jimenez, Traore, Jota, Podence,
Neto, Silva.
A good question Thefutureisoldgold.
A nice headache to have for Nuno.

E from Wombourn, steady on. One game, no pre-season and known to be trying to sign a RWB. Everyone knows Traore can't defend. Saiss and Coady both play international football at centre back, so I say 4 defenders not 2. Interesting how Jimenez is not classed as a forward on your list.

All things considered that was a very promising start! Marcal looked solid which certainly gave Saiss confidence and a degree of freedom knowing he was covered. Bolt looked a bit shaky but playing behind the band-aid of Traore that was hardly surprising, to me anyway. Conor was Conor! Add the players you know we need we are going to have a very very good team. Plus the bench is going to look a bit scary. Both for the opposing teams and our team knowing no ones place is guaranteed, except maybe one or two. From memory we have the number of points we had after 5 games last season. A good start. Stay positive folks!

Even without Europe the games will come thick and fast this season. I expect everyone to get games with possibly Neves and Moutinho sharing the workload in midfield. let's give it a few games to see what the optimum line up is. Man City on Monday wouldn't surprise me to see a totally different formation with Jimenez and Jota in a 352.

Sure are positive Ken.
Enjoy the sunshine as much as I'm enjoying the wolves win and back earning 100% corn all be it with a stinking headache met up last night with pals I hadn't seen for a long time. very rude to not stay till closing I think ha ha.
Still up this morn like a jack in a box.
Nothing is going to upset me today.
For the not so positive folk my apologies for being over exuberant in my joy.
Up the wolves 5th in the league let's stay in the top 6 all season eh.

Let's get things into context. The first half was as good as anything they dished up last season, albeit against a strangely poor side. Yes we need a RWB because Traore cannot defend. That is why Vinagre doesn't play he is similar to Traore on the other side-can't defend. I also think Boly is sadly running out of time at the back-he lost form at the back end of last season and his distribution and repeatedly having a player run past him on his blind side was too much in evidence for my liking. We need a couple more players at least. Saiss-outstanding. Jimenez-if he went wouldn't let him go for less than 90m. Also Marcal had a pretty good debut. We still have this bad habit of allowing teams to come back at us.

Good post SQ - V balanced.
I think Boly will be fine (the points you make though are valid maybe a RWB who can defend might help a bit though? ) but not sure that I want Dendonker, Traore and Boly as a 3 on the right as none of them look comfortable in possession (obviously Traore wold be 40 metres further up pitch! ) .
Interesting to hear others views as to why for 20 mins after half time we went in to a post lockdown style of hanging on the ropes and absorbing punishment without seemingly trying to fight back - odd and a bit worrying?
Fortunately this year we have a bench to change the run of the game and did. We were probably the better team for the last 15-20?

Fair comment SQ. I would say with Boly he wasn't great but form can desert any player for a bit, confidence etc. Above all that was a fair start and our possession level was better than it has been. Certainly in the first half anyway, plus teams are going to come back at you and fitness levels come into play. I would expect if we can to have Traore on the bench for Monday as it's City's first game. They would expect to maybe struggle a bit second half, hopefully anyway. We shall see!

Agree its a lovely problem for Nuno.
My thoughts:
We play 3 up front - sometimes that might be 2 but surely will never be 4.
Jimenez will be the central striker most of this year - Silva picking up slack this year and maybe more next.
Silva for 35m was not bought to only play back up to Jimenez he will also get minutes along side Jimenez in both a 2 and 3 formation.
so basically there are less than 2 places available (less minutes for Silva and minutes where we don't have 3 up front) .
4 into 2 doesn't seem sustainable long term for a club that only a few days ago had fans who were worried sick about FFP.
Traore is surely first choice down right and now Podence down left?
What kept Jota in pole position is that he was the only 1 who could at a pinch cover Jimenez but now there is Silva?
My very first post postulated that we sell Jota to reinvest in LWB (Hadn't sold Doherty then) and other needs now met by buying Marcal (CB cover) Vitor (Moutinho Cover/ eventual replacement) and Silva (Jimenez cover) .
Maybe this is still valid but both WBs need upgrading
Gather Vinagre might go to help fund this chap Telles, even my son told me he was great!
What do others think?

With reference to all above I think we all agree we made a good start. All our problems are pretty much nice ones to have. A rwb plus if we are lucky a lwb and we're happy. Today relax! I'm off to sit in a deck chair by Rutland Water close to where I live. Enjoy our 3 points COYW.

My thoughts we will sign a rwb and have burr as cover (nuno gave him his first premier league appearance last night)
Lwb marcal with viangre as cover.
If we will sell or loan out viangre I think we will need a replacement.
Dendoncker I think is under rated and imo we look more solid in midfield when dendoncker plays.
It may turn out we sell Traore I don't think we would sell Jota but I think we can afford to let Traore or Jota go if the price is right.
I think in the premier league the quality of opposition there is always going to be chances created against us.
I thought we dealt with set pieces loads better than last season and up the other end our delivery from corners and movement in the box was better also.
Nuno is so likeable as he says it exactly how it is and how he wants it.
Room for improvement but really happy with the performance of the players.
Obviously being a likeable manager doesn't bring results it's just part of the make up to his style of management and person.
Looking at our first game clean sheet 2 goals scored away from home with a rwb who isn't a defender not bad eh.

Nuno almost always substitutes strikers so they will get plenty of game time between them

Podence takes on defenders like Jota I think especially against weaker teams he is worth a goal or an assist I don't know about being up against Van Dijk or Cesar Azpy-wotsit.

Fair comment Phil. The confidence that Marcal brought released Saiss. Whilst Boly had virtually zero confidence in Traore, hardly surprising tbh. rwb a must after that I'm sure Nuno will know. I wouldn't sell anyone a strong bench would be great!

Big willy is absolutely fantastic player he always looks for pass and if no pass available he will take them on time after time and run through the middle IMO the back 3 were solid I personally think we missed JOTA his work ethic is second to none and when he goes with ball only thing teams do is foul him or he leaves them for dead so some fans ain't ever going to be happy we had it with the dendoncker last season and they seem to have shut there mouths up about him and start on big willy who next for some of you this is the best football wolves have ever played and we only going to get better.

Agree W Craig.
Dendoncker last season ott slating by a few on here I don't think it's the same from posts above about Boly just nick picking I think.
The main angry slater of our players and manager and fosun is no longer here and the other few don't normally post when we win.
Posters views and opinions on all things wolves is no problem for me Aslong as it's not directed at others.
All is good and better on here now imo.

Wolves Craig.
My comments were not about Boly I think he's great. I was concerned about Traore's defending because it's not great. It puts Boly in an awkward situation because he's worrying about more than just his own job. Hope you understood that!
