Hearing talk of a move for Pepe, 23yr old Brazilian winger from Gremio. Unsure why we'd buy a winger unless we're due for departures or it really is the plan to move Adama to RWB.

Sounds a good player though! Got lots of wingers at wolves. Been thinking callum Wilson would be a good signing for us and a decent back up striker. Villa had £15m bid rejected for him.

I agree Bully but I think we would have the same problem trying to sign Wilson as we would most good/ established Prem strikers, they know the position is taken! Don't get me wrong he's a good player so would get game time but if he goes to Villa (or most other clubs looking at him) he knows he's there starting no. 9 (and get the shirt to boot) whereas at our place he knows that won't be the case. Well not unless a certain King Raul leaves us that is. Its the same reason Spurs find it hard to get quality back up for Kane, like them if our no 9 is fit he starts 👍.

Unless Adama is being moved to RWB permanently then I can't see this happening. We're chock full of wingers as it is.

Problem with Adama Traore playing as a winger, is that we struggle to get him in the game. He doesn’t help matters as he rarely receives the ball on the move. Playing deeper, as a wing back, makes it easier for us to get him involved. Number of touches our wing backs get is significantly higher than touches by our wingers. However, the deeper he plays, the more important his decision making: when to opt for a simple lay off and when to try to run the ball. Last season we saw examples of him trying to run when too deep, which presented opposition with ball in the final third.
Some of his best cameos when he played in a number 10 role. : goals against Man City being good examples. He had good success running at centre backs and skipping past them at ease. Centre backs tend to be less mobile than full backs and don’t often have to face players running directly at them.
Have to give credit where credit is due; he is always willing to learn and doesn’t complain when he is switched between the three roles outlined above.

Sorry folks, killjoy alert. Not posted for a few years but feel obliged because I think we need to be honest about what’s been promised and what we’re getting because there’s a massive gap to be fair. Now don’t get me wrong, Fosuns investment has been awesome but that being said they’ve waxed lyrical about their ambitions and we need to be truthful. Signings haven’t matched. You don’t become an ‘elite’ club by penny pinching on £15M players. You don’t become an elite club whilst dipping in to the same pond (money wise) as the likes of wba and villa whilst being outshone by Everton. I can’t knock Fosun for what they’ve done to date but it’s utter BS to suggest that they’re aiming for us to be a top end club. To do that every player needs to be 35-40M+. They may have had that in mind a couple of years ago but somethings changed. I see people saying this £10M player or this £7M player or this £15M player is great. Great for what? Premier league survival? Mid table safety? Certainly not European football. And definitely not an honours winning team. I’m happy with mid table safety I’d just prefer fosun to be honest within us rather than blowing smoke up our backsides. Hopefully they sign 4 or 5 £40M plus players and stick FFP up their backsides and live with the short term consequences but can’t see it happening.

Thing is tho we brought Jimenez for 35m wasn’t it? If they believe it’s the right player they’ll do it. The problem we’ve got is mendes has got us plays for well cheaper than we should have. We signed Moutinho for 5m probably should of been closer to 10-15m neves for 15 again should of been a lot higher and others, we’ve kind of got that mindset of he can do that we don’t need to worry. We do need to start picking up players for a lot for more yes but this isn’t a 5 year project it’s 10/ 20 as Jeff said the other day so just have patience I know it’s hard and all but sometimes that’s the way football is.

There is nothing wrong with buying a player unproven and moulding them to a style of football you want to play that is successful-surely?

I think the problem is not many players want to compete with such a settled first team, they have an attitude or personal problem that would unsettle the squad or they expect to much money for where they are in their career. Or a combination of the 3.

Think of all the young players that have the skill and talent but the incorrect application over the years. And the club have to scout and analysis as much information as possible to make the correct additions for the benefit of the club.

Also paying £40m+ for any player doesn't automatically mean they will be successful. Think how many players have been signed for mega money but not performed. Man Utd over the past 7 years have a Bible of players that haven't cut the mustard. But they have paid the Man Utd premium price for those catalogue of errors.

You have a great understanding of the situation regarding Adama at RWB. Those were my thoughts exactly. Adama does need to be more involved during 90 mins and RWB would certainly do that but like you said his decision making and his tendency to switch off momentarily would be a big concern defensively. Given all the circumstances I think we're in for a tough start but hope Nuno can keep morale up and by Xmas we'll be climbing the table.

Captain- unfortunately fella your post is about 5-10 years to late! No one cane just stick FFP up their backsides these days, some have tried and generally failed! So remind me how would your Grand plan for us to be an elite club go if we get a transfer embargo like Chelsea for a couple of seasons?! Also Matts bang on the money here, what you are basically complaining about is good business?! Rui is COMFORTABLY a £30+m GK we got him for free (OK we paid around £15m as a token gesture after the fact but still)?! How much do you think Raul and Jimenez are now worth or Jonny for that matter?! How much you pay for players shouldn't be how you judge the quality of a signing, just ask Bale or Sanchez! Surely the value in a clubs transfer policy should in fact be almost the exact opposite to what your saying. Answer me this Captain how many players have gone down in value under Fosun and Nuno, how many have we made a loss on?! Cause I can't think of one, even Cutrone went.

Good comments gentleman, no one getting paranoid because we have yet to buy! Pepe could be interesting, wouldn't that have a work permit issue? Rashica has not moved yet, we were linked with him a while back. I still think it's a pity we didn't sign Oliviera for 5m as back up for Raul. He's older and probably not have a problem with spending time on the bench. Mind let's face it with what's happened this year there are loads of players particularly those with a year left on contracts that clubs may want to move on to get something for them rather than lose them for nothing next year. Couple of weeks from now I'm sure we will have the players we'd like to have. There's never been times like these before, stay positive!
