Hi ed001 I don't suppose you know what these "couple of issues" Curbishley is talking about, secondly does he stand a chance with the job or is he just putting himself in the shop window? {Ed001's Note - the issues were mostly related to the director of football that the club wanted to put in place. Curbs wasn't interested in that, he wanted to manage the club completely.}
Does that issue of Director of Football still remain the same? {Ed001's Note - it is still the club's preferred option as far as I am aware.}
Why was Mr Morgan absent on Saturday - anybody in the know here?
He was on the dry slopes in Tipton.
Have heard from a media friend who works for a national down in London that a story is running tomorrow that Sven Goran Erikkson is being lined up to be next Wolves boss. He was right yesterday when Steve Evans left Crawley to go Rotherham!!
Ed 001, when you say that Curbs wanted the manage the football club completely, I presume you mean the whole of the footballing side of the club - first team/squad, own assistants/coaching staff, transfer in/out subject to approval by chief exec or chair/board, academy linkage to first team. Is that not just being professional or do you believe that there were other issues arising? {Ed001's Note - it is not good for a club if he doesn't stay in charge for a long time. A manager has a tendency to think too short term, due to their job being on the line if short term results are not good. The plan is to put someone above to think long term.}
Sven for manager or Sven for Director of Football?
Please god not SGE , noooooooo
Ray Wilkins would be ideal as a DOF a real football man and excellent coach two for one, such a decent guy aswell Curbs must be able to work with someone like him. Without losing the control he craves.
As far as I know it's Only managers role but three papers running story and bookies are also getting wind!
Why are we so keen on employing ex England managers? Taylor/hoddle/Sven?
Thanks Ed 001 for your above response. Two observations if I could.
1) You say "the plan is to put someone above to think long term" - is this the Director of Football role? (To advise/put football in layman's terms to Morgan and Moxey?) An extra complication or a necessary evil - I mean persuading Moxey not to source from a financially troubled club, like asking a kid not to put his finger in the honey jar.
2) Was Curbs only offered a 13 match contract? So where's ther long term there? Managers can work to the long term if the chair, particluarly, and board provide that support. Look no further than Whelan and Martinez. Al Fayed and Jol (and Jol's predecessors).
What I'm really saying here is that it's the chairman who provides the working environment, he sets out the brief that the manager can work to. If we're looking for the short term Abramovich (again, chairman) would come to mind. {Ed001's Note - 1. yes, it is someone to be a go between, to oversee all the football side of the club. At least that is the plan, not as easy as it sounds to put into place.
2. the point is that the DOF stays in place and does the long term planning, a manager just comes in and works with the pieces he is given. So there is no need for long term contracts etc.}
Cheers Ed 001, just had a thought, let's make Curbs the DoF. And manager :o).
I remember reading abramovich sacked wilkins because nobody knew what he actually did sounds promising
He also sacked Mourinho, Ancelloti or forced them out, his work can be measured in Chelsea's upturn and downturn after he left. SAF advised us to approach him we turned to McGhee that's how highly he has been rated amongst footballs greats
