I know this is bordering on heresy, but I'm going to say it anyway. This very winnable game, was lost in the coach's room when they sat around and planned the strategy. Our opposition were 'murdered' at Villa Park and, going forward, we should have been positive about doing the same.

From the off, We should have gone for them at the start. Adama HAD to start. Imagine all the opportunities we created in the first 15 minutes, with Adama on the ball. Their left side was wide open. In my humble opinion, we would have been 2-up within 15 minutes. Wrong players were selected. Kilman is massively left footed. Playing him on the right side of defence was a cardinal error.

His lack of pace on the first goal was embarrassing. Surely Hoever should have played tonight? After his last few games, why was Marcal not selected? If you look at both goals, they wouldn't have happened if he was playing, instead of the boy. Barnes would not have got on to that first cross.

Marcel would have dealt with it. The second goal, also. It's a classic Burnley play.
Marcal there, would have stopped the ball being headed back across. It's not rocket science. Surely our coaches knew this? So why have we put Ait-Nouri in the side at Turf Moor? He should not have been there. Kilman either.

Our midfield didn't work. It was sideways - always. No penetration. Moutinho was a bit of a plodder tonight. Neves was half the player he was against Chelsea. Sometimes he looks as if he's got out of bed the wrong side.

He's such a talent. He should be dominating in every game. But, on occasions like tonight, he looks so average. Why? We need to cause problems running at teams from the centre of midfield. But we never do. Everything goes wide. And Our opponents know this.

Surely Vitinha should at least be given a game to see what he could do in that central position? Neto had a great first 20 minutes and looked world class. Then, he disappeared, because no one gave him the ball.

Why? Burnley bullied us. As we knew they would try to do. Why weren't we ready for it? Why did we look so powder puff?

All of these questions can be simply answered. because of what went on in the coach's room. Our coach and his team got it wrong. Very wrong. Another 3 points thrown away.

Have to say you are on the button regarding Marcal, as for the midfield it's been an issue all season for me, Donk was a big miss.
Podense for me is great player, but these silly back heels are costly, it's not the first time its cost us either, do the simple play the ball the way u are facing.
Burnley are bang average at best, and we have been no better apart from one or 2 games, the team hastoo. much imbalanacw at the moment and key players are struggling this season.
We need to get back to playing the simple pass and stop over running ball.
All aside, I have seen some encouraging signs from one or 2 others young lads.
Now on to beat Utd and Spurs in next 2 games.

2.) 21 Dec 2020 21:55:54
It's not heresy George-it's fact.

3.) 21 Dec 2020 22:04:03
Moutinho is too influential, his negative, sideways passing game slows us down. Never looks to either, drive at opposition or play through the lines. The first criticism is harsh given his age but it does deprive us of an attacking option. Neves follows his lead, plays far better when Moutinho not in the team, Chelsea a good example.

Moutinho dictates corner routines. Can somebody explain what they are about please? Otasowie booked because Moutinho couldn’t play a 5yard pass to him forcing the youngster to lunge for the mispass. Free kicks - why is this left to Moutinho, never delivers into the danger area with pace, which is what you see from other sides. You can see he is becoming frustrated with himself and getting himself booked and sent off.

We play with more pace and more directness, when he is not in the team. Not sure we have a replacement in the present squad, so might have to look to the January window to address the issue.

4.) 21 Dec 2020 22:13:28
Think they said Marcal was benched cause there seemed to be a question mark over him picking up a knock. My problem there is whys he on the bench then?! Again sadly the answer is because we don't have enough senior squad players, something we need to address and might need to rely on the loan market for 🤔.

5.) 21 Dec 2020 22:46:22
Some baffling team selections and tinkering from Nuno lately. That's worrying. Constantly changing the back line is not good for any team. Midfield continues to be a problem and will be until we accept that we need to better quality in there.

6.) 21 Dec 2020 23:37:25
Only saw the 2nd half and the 1st goal on the half time analysis but if the first half was the same then it is true that we were both awful and that Nuno, (not helped by the paucity of options he has following a truly abysmal summer transfer window and a minor injury crisis), got it badly wrong this time.
Ratings
Patrico 4 – once the ball reached the relevant Forward he had no chance on either goal but for both goals and on several other occasions he failed to come and dominate his box. His lack of communication with the defence is worrying.
Semedo 5 – Was partially (along with several others) to blame for 2nd goal when he was unable to win the 2nd of 3 balls we lost in the box for the goal – more challenges were won by Burnley in our area in that move than we won in their box for the entire 2nd half – and was caught up field for the first goal, (but he is a RWB and so should be up field occasionally. The worry is that despite 3 in midfield and 3CBs only Kilman reacted and then too late. Perhaps if I am being picky I can’t say that I’m happy that Taylor, a run off the mill prem player, was able to run away from Podence – not exactly busting a gut to get back - or Semedo - not even trying. ) Overall Semedo is a modest Prem player who we have hugely over paid for BUT he is not to blame for the current shortcomings.
One of the key factors though is the poor physical attributes of many of the team.
Across the team as a whole the lack of athleticism until recently had not been a problem, (we don’t run, are small, slow and frail), because the style of play didn’t require pace or strength. We played v slowly in a considered style with our defence based upon structure, organisation and discipline and our attack/ goals based upon from flashes of individual brilliance from certain players or very occasional and well-designed changes/ explosions of pace (both of ball and legs) . The fast break or the quick from the slow, slow, slow, slow, quick dance.
But with the system falling apart/ being abandoned certain players losing form/ growing old, Jimenez getting injured and other teams actually identifying what we do and setting up to nullify it we are struggling to compete when we are so physically out matched.
RAN- 4 Only saw him play for 15 mins but have to question why when you are playing one of the biggest and most physical sides in the league with a pair of big powerful strikers we drop one of the few physical defenders we have for a young frail kid. Bad decision! Should have done better for their 2nd goal but so should several others!
Coady 6 To be honest Burnley offered v little but when they are 2 up after 50 odd mins why should they.
Kilman 6 Tried to close Taylor down – didn’t.
Saiss 6 unlucky with shot from Traore cross at end of game – maybe should have crossed it back across but don’t blame him
Neves 4 – bad mistake nearly cost us a goal at start of 2nd half. He lacked sharpness on the ball and as Sky commentary said we were limp and bullied and he typified this. PS His great shot late on that drew a top save from Pope was good to see.
Moutinho 4 – Seemed to always go backwards but often with little in the way of options as we were being overpowered all over the pitch.
Owen – 4 But from a mere 15 mins. Was to blame for 2nd goal as didn’t even get off ground when losing first challenge in our box in the move that led to their goal. Hard to be harsh though as he was making his full debut. Shouldn’t be doing so until the team is settled or he has had a few more cameos to get him used to the pace of the game at this level. Nuno may or not to be blame for the fact that we simply don’t have enough ready to play Premier league players and are therefore resorting to playing unprepared kids but someone is and it is costing us badly.
Podence 5 tried hard but didn’t get much joy against huge physical defenders
Neto 5 showed v little
Subs
Silva 5 Well BB he got a goal and an assist – although I think it only counts as 1. However apart from being stupidly fouled by a kid from their side he did nothing and lost the ball almost every time he had it
Traore 8 Man of Match. In his 30 mins he seemingly created more than rest of team did throughout game. Despite being double and triple marked by Burnley he opened them up at least 4 times and Neto, Saiss and Silva all had chances due to his brilliance. It is not his fault that we fail to take advantage of either these chances or, that with 3 defenders marking him, the space and unmarked players he creates elsewhere. Since we send so few players forward, (Neves and Moutinho? ), Burnley were able to focus all their efforts on the one player, (with Podence and Neto both out of sorts), seemingly able to hurt them.
Vitor 4 Handful of minutes but again tough to expect a kid taking his first steps in the Prem to take control of the game for us.

Odd to see Nuno blaming the ref- is it the first time ever? They used the foul when they needed to (When Traore got it they would pile in in numbers and maybe a booking or two earlier might have forced some changes but Wolves are never going to get the protection the establishment teams get) and fell over when they needed to but no more than everyone else apart from us does. There were no howlers a la Andre Mariner. Is Nuno feeling the pressure?

7.) 22 Dec 2020 01:01:38
Just watched first half and we were not massively different to the 2nd half i. e. we huffed and puffed but never looked like scoring. But having seen the 1st goal again its even more shameful. Podence is run past by Taylor and Semedo is still in their half, (despite Taylor having run 75 yards or more), when the goal goes in. Put simply they weren't EVEN trying and that is the bare minimum from a pro.
Its also worth noting that RAN fails to cover himself with glory at the back post for this goal as well.
Indeed if Marcal had played its possible/ probable that neither goal would have been scored
Nuno must surely lay down the law on this simple lack of effort/ hunger from the team and whilst Podence as our best player and one of our front 2 can be cut some slack Semedo as a weak link should at least be trying to make up for his shortcomings with effort.
Maybe, although I have desperately tried to be positive about him over the last few weeks, Semedo does need to be shaken up a bit and although I accept that it would be yet another kid on the pitch perhaps Hoever has to come in.
All in all v depressing again after the amazing win v Chelsea. Def looking over our shoulders now. Are there 3 teams that will remain abysmal?
I said Burnley was a "must not lose" game and we lost so what does that make our visit to Brighton and our trips to Craven Cottage, the Hawthorns etc etc.

8.) 22 Dec 2020 10:13:57
You do know that we’re still p11 in the league, right.
And that patricio had a very decent game City some crucial saves.
And did you see adama’s crossing and how awful it was?
Look on the bright side and trust in nuno
Coyw.

9.) 22 Dec 2020 11:09:39
How awful his crossing was
He put the ball into the space between the 6 yard box and pen spot 3 times - once onto Neto's head - a player a few inches taller would have scored, once a defender chested it down - admittedly under no pressure (WHY! ) and once he found Silva who failed to get a clean contact to a shot 6 yards out
He also found Saiss unmarked 6 yards out on the angle.
All these were excellent crosses - where should he be crossing the ball to?
The real q of course is why is he crossing if we have no one (or v few bodies) in the box and the ones we have have are v short and unlikely to win headers against any adult defender- a q I have been asking for a while as previously it was only Jimenez.
The failure to get bodies into the box is a damning indictment as Burnley would have had 2 or 3 of their defenders trying and failing to mark Traore and so there should be lots of unmarked wolves players with lots of space available?
Also why doesn't he run at the box instead of the corner flag when he then has no option but to cross {and why does he never use his left foot} but all of the answers to these qs, (apart from the left foot) must lie with the club as he will only do as he is told - get to the by line and cross - so he does!
Re 11th yes there is a gap to the teams below us but we have picked up 7 points form 7 games now after winning 13 from our first 7 and we have Spurs, Man U and Brighton away to come next - will be 11th then.
Its not time to panic but it is long past time to realise we aren't playing well and results aren't good and this January do something about it i. e. don't buy as badly as we did in the summer but buy we must as we are simply running out of bodies let alone good players
ps Saw Patricio make a couple of good saves in first half and if you read my posts regularly I have normally not blamed him but I think he should have done better with both goals and the shambles with Saiss and another player later on that led to corners as they failed to communicate was embarrassing. I would like him to be more dominant in the box and come and collect crosses occasionally.
Still a huge Nuno fan and def agree we need to remember where he has brought has us but someone loused up big this summer and we are going backwards rapidly at the moment
Apologies for negativity - late night post after watching game alone - v depressing!

10.) 22 Dec 2020 13:48:29
Was surprised he picked both Owen and RAN to start these guys are still impact players and this isn't a cup match where experimental teams are normal

Start with the strongest 11 and wear them down it's worked so far then bring on players to grab late goals.

11.) 22 Dec 2020 14:14:36
I agree with the feelings of a potential change of manager. With no European football to contend with, Fosun will not as we've seen previously hang around. They'd want at least 6th place this season. If not I fear for Nuno. Fortune favours the brave. I say go 4231 like againsr Arsenal. Traore Neto and Podence behind Silva.

Really, what is desperately needed right now, is some clarification from the Club about the current state of affairs.

They will be aware, or should be, that their lifeblood - the fans - are getting a tad
confused and a little worried. And with some justification.

The sale of Matt Doherty was a strange one, but, if as reported, he wanted the move, then there was only one outcome.

But, there are other - and greater - concerns.

Where are the additions that the Manager himself stated, were greatly needed for the team to build on what has already been achieved?

What is the position with certain key players - Traore and Jiminez - that have been constantly linked with moves away?

And what is the position with the Manager? He himself said discussions would commence after the European campaign? Well, have they - and how are those talks going?

Reports in the last 24 hours, suggest that Nuno might be stalling on a new contract, because the new additions he wants, are still nowhere to be seen.

We all hope that is not the case, because if it is, we have a potentially very serious problem.

You do get the impression, that for the first time in a few years, there might be financial restrictions. It's hard to understand why.

That little FFP problem a few weeks ago is nothing in the whole scheme of things.

They have received all the fees for Cavaleiro and Costa, plus the bonus add-ons, there's the European dosh and now Matt's transfer fee. They will have got a loan fee for Morgan Gibbs-White and other peripheral sales.

And, on top of that little lot, of course, there's the transfer kitty for the new season.

This means there's a fair wad in Jeff's inside pocket. They should be able to compete with anyone, except for the top four.

So, they need to let us know what is happening.

Silence is not an option - and, the fans deserve much better than that.

There might be no issues at all and three top players sign next week, Traore and Jiminez pledge their allegiance for the next campaign at least - and Nuno signs a new three-year deal.

We all hope that is the case.

But, some statements from the Club are needed.

And soon.

1.) 31 Aug 2020 09:14:01
Absolutely agree with every point you make George. A club statement is way overdue!

2.) 31 Aug 2020 09:34:37
Well said!

3.) 31 Aug 2020 10:09:57
It’s certainly itchy feet time guys and the Matt Doherty sale has caught us all left field. However the club does its business in private and won’t want to alert selling clubs as to what our budget is or isn’t. Also wanted to wish Matt Doherty all the best for the rest of his career, a loyal servant of the club, a good guy and someone who has given us some great moments on the pitch.

4.) 31 Aug 2020 10:11:29
Agree fellas. let's face it doc was 28,to be honest we've not done bad to get 13 or so mill. Hope they are thinking of recruiting a younger replacement, but we do need 4 or 5 signings to bolster squad. Times running out. Are we confident fosun are going to sanction the signings we need to progress
Moussa marega been mentioned again
He's 29. So hope not.

5.) 31 Aug 2020 10:42:10
The transfer window is still open for another 5 weeks.

6.) 31 Aug 2020 10:54:32
Agree completely, I was concerned after the sevilla game as to what was going to happen and said then nuno signing would be the reassurance we needed. Jokingly then I said the new shirts looked relegation material if something doesn't happen positively soon we could find ourselves being left wanting bigtime. Re Doc I thank him and wish him all the very best, I hope he did want to go, 15mil seems low, and I hope maitland joins nuno signs and a couple more additions dreaming again, otherwise it may be a nightmare.

Just consider the sums for a minute. If he wanted to come
(a big if) and the deal was for Wolves to pay half his wages,
then for this one promotion season, you would get a hell of a lot for £3 Million. He would be devastating in this division. Who could you buy for £3 Mill these days, that would make as much impact? I can't think of anyone.
