A google search for Andre Gray news pulls up an inside futball article, that claims according to the BBC, Wolves have ruled themselves out of pursuing Andre Gray as he's too expensive, and are switching attention to Sam Gallagher.

Surely rumours can't be that easy. I wonder if they mean the real BBC or it's some kid called Benjamin Brian Codswallop on twitter.

Ulf

1.) 02 Aug 2017 01:53:17
I'm not a fan of Sam Gallagher personally so let's hope it's just hear say.

2.) 02 Aug 2017 05:56:53
Gallagher is a real prospect, reason Southampton have given him a new deal and they should know what a real prospect looks like. Like our own real prospect Nial Ennis, Gallagher's development interrupted by long injury lay. off. Good in the air, strong hold up play and deceptively quic. I think he would be a real asset but whether or not we are willing to wait until the end of the window for him is probably Nuno's call and it looks like he wants all incomings sorted prior to kick off.

3.) 02 Aug 2017 07:52:12
Scottish Wolf, like you I also believe Gallagher be a great signing as he offers something very different to our existing striking options. But Wolves insider seems to think the loan offer has been withdrawn. From other reading it seems that their transfer activity has got caught up in takeover red tape. Having sold Rodriguez and with injury questions over Long Austin and Gabbiadini they need another striker. Until that is sorted they are reluctant to let Gallagher go. This one could drag out for a while yet.

4.) 02 Aug 2017 08:41:20
Personally don't think a move for Gray would be wise for both the club or player. We'll known fact that Andre is a former gang member from Whitmore Reans, fair play to him for moving on with his life and career but coming home? Not so sure. Patrick Bamford would be ideal for us I feel.

5.) 02 Aug 2017 09:40:05
Who ever we do sign I hope its a permanent signing and not another loan.

6.) 02 Aug 2017 10:42:07
I'm getting depressed about this now. It wouldn't matter if we were just having a good go this season, obviously we're in with a chance of promotion, like anyone is. But without a decent striker who can go a full season, this isn't the stuff of promotion which is what Fosun stated the objective is.

This is beginning to look like it's going to fall short.

7.) 02 Aug 2017 11:22:21
Christ, Ulf you are very nagative and depressing, 99% of wolves fans are excited by the project at the moment, who knows this Leo bloke could end up being that "Decent Striker". Dicko is also a 15 goal a season striker when fully fit. Chill out a bit and enjoy the ride. Fosuns target was actually promotion within 3 years, was it not? That means a good push this season and promotion next season?

8.) 02 Aug 2017 11:36:00
I think Leo could be great, but he needs to adjust to the Championship, and apparently he only played 18 games last season.

If we don't get promoted this season, we'll have little to build on, most of the players will be getting sold to Prem. Neves didn't sign to play in the Chump for 2 yrs etc. Which makes this season a golden opportunity, before they move on.

I don't mind us not being full on for promotion this year or just hoping for it as an outside chance, but then it wasn't me that said we were going full on for promotion, it was Fosun.

Maybe Gallagher would be good enough, I don't know, but it's uncertain he's available, and it may not be till end of August. That's a big chunk of the season gone without an up to speed striker, which we've not had since they sold Afobe Dec 2015.

9.) 02 Aug 2017 11:44:34
Fall short, before we even kick a bloody ball? Lighten up Ulf. How can anyone be depressed with what Nuno has achieved so far? I know you're not a Baggie as you're all over Wolves sites, but keep a sense of proportion man.

10.) 02 Aug 2017 11:55:44
I don't know yet what Nuno has achieved, the Leicester game isn't a measure, they were way off the pace and gave us more time and space than we'll get in the Championship. At the moment, till it's proved itself in the Championship, it's still only talk.

And you can lose it in early season, what happened to us in 2015-16 when we didn't get Afobe till Christmas, and despite having Championship winning form from that point, were too far behind to catch up. It's frustrating, because for the rest of team we may be just a quality Champ striker short of completely romping it.

11.) 02 Aug 2017 12:01:04
It is all relative.

After the dark days of the Scouse Scally, how could any Wolves fan not feel the world has changed dramatically for the Club.
It is refreshing to have Owners showing a positive approach to the playing side.
Yes, last year was a bad year, trying to fuse mainly 1st Division standard players, with some quality new Signings. not good.
This summer, most of those Journeymen have been moved out and some exciting additions brought in.
The squad now looks leaner and full of quality.
The concern about Strikers is fair, but it is being addressed and also you now have a midfield/ wingers capable of scoring plenty.
So reasons to be cheerful!

12.) 02 Aug 2017 12:28:30
Well said Ruge. I cannot get the Ulf's negative vibes. Compared to recent history we should be thankful that someone saw some value and strength at Wolves to invest in. Fosun are like Christmas every day. Would Ulf's be happy to go back 2 yeas?

13.) 02 Aug 2017 12:48:09
Either way we will reach the promised land again sooner rather than later. Reason being what jeff, mendes and fosun will do is simple yet so shrewd and effective. If it ain't this season and our star players want to leave then one they're sold for massive profit. Secondly we repeat the process time and time again till we get where we want to be. We take players from mendes conveyor belt again and again till we get promoted. Will never have to worry like villa are at the moment like blowing their budget last season as we can loan to buy aswell. If some players don't work out then they go back to their parent clubs at no loss to us at all. I know whos plan and model I would want and it definetely ain't villas or tony xias.
KEEP THE FAITH, BELIEVE . once were in the premiership then wolves will up their game big time just like the elite have.

14.) 02 Aug 2017 12:51:35
I'm not being negative, I'm being realistic. Which is significant for me because I'm normally a happy clapper. It was reading the Middlesbrough forum thread about our coming game that did it, it brought me back down to earth.

I think our team has so much quality it has the potential to run away with division, if it wasn't bottle necked at the striker. I doubt we'll have Neves or Jota next year, or maybe even Costa if we don't get promoted, I want us to make the most of the opportunity this season. I think like Bournemouth broke FFP to get promoted, you have to take a few risks - and not like Morgan, that we might have enough, but like Bournemouth, making sure you do have enough.

15.) 02 Aug 2017 13:08:32
Re out of darkness and replacing great prospects like Neves as they move on so we can keep trying, I agree it's a great model in principle, but these players don't come along often, like Afobe demonstrates, there's no young players about like him at the moment. Maybe next time there is, there'll then be a lack of a player like Neves? We'd be very lucky to see all the development players we need at the same age / stage of their career available in the same season.

So we'll still have to mix it with established and expensive players, like I want them to this season with a striker. But I guess over time, by trading players like Neves, we may create profit and a FFP advantage that would allow us to keep spending bigger so we're better able to do that in future seasons.

16.) 02 Aug 2017 13:21:49
Ulf mendes has hundreds of players mate to help the wolves project. Also what fosun are doing is targeting players that are assets to atleast sell on if the worst comes to the worst ie the player wants to leave or we don't get promoted. How much would we generate if costa, neves and cavaleiro were to be sold? . Enough to repeat the process again with the same quality or better if we were to buy players. Also not forgetting mixing in loans aswell. Look into how watford did it, that was only via udinese helping. Our project is way bigger and better.

17.) 02 Aug 2017 13:24:52
All the players like Neves if he goes next summer for 20m it will sort out our FFP and most of the other signings are young and will be worth more in a years time.

18.) 02 Aug 2017 13:31:25
It's not a bad model, if each season we showcase and trade on flash players, make profit and build a big advantage in FFP that within a couple of seasons could allow us to throw the kitchen sink at it and buy the league. It would be the club growing and gaining value on it's way to the top, very professional, but measured and will need some patience from us.

19.) 02 Aug 2017 13:48:16
Spot on ulf. So glad we have fosun and not the doctor in the suburb of bham. He threw the kitchen sink at it last season and now bruce can't even manage to buy batth even if they wanted him as they have to sell first lol.

20.) 02 Aug 2017 13:55:19
Also if you look at Norwich they made £100m in the prem but only £50 in the championship so when we get up there we can afford a few more big names but like this batch must be young we can't afford too many past their prime.

21.) 02 Aug 2017 14:02:17
We are a team that understands how players on high wages past their best days can kill a club so we know the type of player we need to avoid.

22.) 02 Aug 2017 14:17:52
The way some of you lot go on it's like you actually believe what you think is of importance.

23.) 02 Aug 2017 14:59:19
Ulf,

You are typical of some wolves fans who will say "i told you so" and "same old bl**dy wolves" should wolves not deliver on the hopes.

Lifes too short . Enjoy the ride my friend, think a little less about what we may need and what you think is missing . and go with it .

Look at Karl and what he's facing and fighting . you never know what's around the corner .

24.) 02 Aug 2017 17:52:00
Bang on. ever play we Get its now for a mf. get him. now for a left back. get him you no the rest . Just chill . been here just a year. some are fans ate off there heads.3 year plan remember.4 weeks left in this window 'I see a couple go in and maybe some in. but there's a nothing window to come so like I say chill.

25.) 02 Aug 2017 19:19:02
I get Costa and Neves, if it doesn't work out we can sell, make a profit, roll that back into FFP to get bigger budget next time. But that doesn't work for loans like Boly, Jota or maybe Bonatini, if we don't go up they'll have just been a loss in wages and loan fees.

Maybe Bonatini is up to speed and the club just don't think they need a big money striker, otherwise, it still doesn't make sense, putting such a good team together but not nailing that last position.

26.) 02 Aug 2017 20:41:20
Having been reading rumours and posts on here for the last month or so I've made the jump, signed up and am making my first post. can't wait for the new season now. Absolutely buzzin for the sound of that first whistle. Can't understand all the gloom and doom I read. Champions league manager. Full molineux. Costa, cav, jota, boly, neves, Miranda etc etc. Now a striker who regardless of where his previous employment was has a one in two ratio. Excellent training facilities. Promising youth coming through. I for one cannot understand all this talk of edgy this and urban that. Absolute rubbish. We have a bit of a reputation for having fickle fans and certain people just contribute to this. For god sake just get behind the team and just support. We haven't even kicked off yet. Probably going to get banned for this on my first post but some people just get your blood boiling.

27.) 02 Aug 2017 21:00:39
Welcome elegantwolf, excellent 1st post 👍👏.

28.) 02 Aug 2017 21:17:37
Hi Elegantwolf :-)

I haven’t been complaining just pointing things out, and after debating with other posters here have ended up on a positive note with everything. Except I do think they should make the effort for Afobe asap.

I’m not shocked into awe over what Fosun are doing though because I never doubted Wolves were going to be bought by someone super rich and made quality and massive, precisely because of our identity and its brand potential. Been saying it since Morgan decided to sell. M&M just had it completely wrong, I do wonder if Thelwell fails to get it too because of them.

But, we have a Brazilian striker lol :-)

Re Nike, she was the Greek version of the later Roman Goddess Victoria. She was patron Goddess of Sparta.

The Goddess Nike's symbol was an n (like on Spartan 300's shields), that upside down became the tick symbol, which symbolised victory, why it ended up being used by teachers to mark something correct. And is the Nike logo, it's a tick rather than a swooshing V.

The Goddess Victoria's symbol was a V, that was stylised into a pair of wings, like she's wearing on the Brandenburg Gate.

Although I've got preferences as long as it's not a big name signing for more money than Neves I don't mind who we get, as it wouldn't overshadow anything else and I totally trust Nuno to get the right player to work in the system. I'm hoping Bonatini can become our big hit, at 23 and not already a big name he's perfect. It's just the issue of match fitness. I think though Fosun will really go for it now, it's obvious from Saturday it's going to work with Nuno and we may see a couple more. My only concern with more continentals is match fitness now it's the live season.

Yes we are all inclusive and glam, that’s our heritage. Like SJH going as a kid alongside the poorest people, like Billy Wright. Re me supporting the club, I mean about getting involved. You need to be in community or be able to identify with something to support it. I'm not in community, out of area and even excluded from Molmix so it’s already difficult, and things like Moneyshop have a negative impact on identity that repels some people. It is maybe telling that while the Mol was sold out Saturday, Corporate boxes weren’t anywhere near.

Re Gray, I only kicked off about that being for £20m when they apparently wouldn’t pay more than £10m for Afobe, and most of my comments were defensive against attacks rather than attacking. I only care about the identity of the striker is if it’s a big money signing as a talisman, as they’d obviously impact the clubs identity. There are identity issues with Gray that don’t rule him out if he’s matured but should prompt questions.

Re Afobe not Prem but Gray is, not according to the respective clubs fans forums. They claim at 24 Afobe has potential in Prem, at 26 Gray doesn’t and isn’t good enough for Prem, top championship only. But who knows what Nuno could get out of them or any other player, I have total trust he’s a top coach and can make players better.

Hopefully we’ll have a new striker signed by Saturday, I don’t think Nuno would want to be relying on Bonatini without match fitness, and on Dicko who is still to click with the system. I have no doubt now Fosun will do whatever’s necessary to get us to Prem this year, now they’ve seen from Saturday Nuno can make it work.

Re Deep Throat, my CV is ok :-P I’ve dropped out too much, but I might send it into Wolves one day, it impresses me when I remember. I was on fast track into management in Lerners brand marketing bank (biggest Affinity card issuer in the World, did Man U and Newcastle FC), mentored by the VP who was one of his relatives. So I'm obviously house trained :-)

Every decision Fosun have made so far has been good, however this ends up I’m sure they’ll have good reasons. Nothing wrong debating the merit's of this or that potential striker, aside from the footballing reasons.

Don't forget Zenga didn't have a pre-season, and was having to juggle chaos. He instilled passion, which was about all anyone could achieve in the time he had to prepare.

I'm delighted about Bonatini :-) But I'd like a Brit or someone already connected to the club, and young, as the 2nd striker, Afobe or Gallagher for me, so they can become us, to keep things connected to us, not too Mendes, and real.

Nuno is superb :-)

lol - my prediction:

1-0 Wolves. I think we'll shut up shop (by moving it around rather than parking) and sneak an opportune goal. I suspect Nuno has tasked the team to keep a clean sheet above all else.

Who needs to know anything about football? :-P.

The trouble is with all these 26/ 27 year olds knocking about, like Wells, Gray, Hernadez etc, is they already did it for other clubs, got them promoted, they already have those other clubs identities, if they came here, they may do a footballing job but they'd undermine Wolves identity. Which would be mad for us to do when we're trying to reinvent our identity and relaunch it to the Nation.

It's no coincidence these players did it for their clubs when they were around 24 or younger, it meant they became their clubs, so the whole thing gelled, the real togetherness helped get them over the line. Real is heroic not mercenary, it always beats cynical constructs.

Re Penk, no I'm quiet, I’m either totally immersed or my thinking is drifting off and I find it very hard to go somewhere and just be there for any time. I don't attend the Mol, I moved from Wolves when I was 4, worked Northwest, been to some away games but not the Mol for matches. I'm not a football fan as such, I'm a fan of real, and of heroic (I love old Alfa Romeo’s) . Still, that's Wolves for me, I got offered a top Man U season ticket for free once, in Fergusons heydays when they had a massive waiting list and turned it down. Could have probably even got a minor marketing job with Lerners Villa adventure if I’d wanted, but not my club.

I think many Wolves fans (& I include Thelwell in this) more involved and living hand to mouth with it can't see the wood for the trees, don't have the distance and objectivity to see how the clubs identity and opportunities really are. I’m probably more typical of the fans Wolves need to break to expand their base. I was trying to get into attending around the Afobe time, but that last season with M&M killed the integrity and heroism, knocked me right back.
