Hi Old Wulf lostcity,
Was talking to local estate agent at my home I'm selling and he saw my wolves clock in my kitchen and we were chatting about stuff one thing led to me asking him as he's in his 60's about the 70's miners strike and he told me about leaving school at mid day as electricity was turned off.
Leading to wolves, he told me about the 1973 q/f league Cup been played midweek in the afternoon due to the electricity being turned off and couldn't use the floodlights.
He said he went straight from school to the mol.
We won I watched John Richards goal wow he took it like the legend I've become aware of he was.
Wondered if you we there at the match.
Abbey I know you would know but a midweek game not sure you would of been there.
SQ you may of been there too.

That must of been a wounder Ken.

The crowd when I watch highlights of the 70's the atmosphere must of been amazing.

Phil I was at the game at the Mol also the final at Wembley. Richard's goal from Sunderland's cross was right in front of us. Never forget that one. Also saw Richard's debut at Stoke, he weaved his way past three defenders and nearly scored. The Stoke supporter next to me said "where the bloody hell did you get him from" Great Times!

Crikey Phil. I was 13, but John Richards was my hero, what a pair he and Derek dougan made

Phil I wasn't there but recall the game, I was never expecting to beat Liverpool but wow, we did it. I went to final tho, another 'unexpected' victory and drunken night.

alpinewolf. The Stoke supporter asking where we got John Richards from, the answer to that is Warrington. A happy hunting ground for Wolves Steve Kindon was also from the the town as is young Luke Cundle. There may well be more but those are the ones that immediately spring to mind.

Always like to read experiences of wolves which was before my time.
I should in hindsight started my post is there anyone on here who went to that match.

Must of been hard times with the miners strike.
But the cost of the match I assume was affordable more so if you were local especially with the midweek game or games played in the afternoon.

Phil. Thinking back I can honestly say that I never found the price at the turnstile then to be expensive. Whereas when I look at prices now I find them to be expensive and more than that quite offensive tbh. Clubs charging 100-00 for a football match is a bit disgusting in my opinion or maybe I'm just getting old!

Phil re cost - I remember you could go to a game for basically the cost of 2 pints of beer in the late 70s!
Somewhat more expensive now.
But remember players in the top flight earnt roughly the same as the local branch bank manager was paid.
Now they are paid twice that a week!
Someone has to pay for that and although it is largely the TV audience the ticket holder is also faced with a hugely increased bill!

The first match I went to was in 1965. Kid's entrance was 1 shilling and threepence.

My first match was v Tranmere in the league cup, it was a birthday present for my 10th birthday in 1973. I’ve got the match programme which cost 8p. I took 2 mates with me (a Leeds fans and a Chelsea fan). Tranmere scored first, my mates cheered, my dad shat himself and always said we only got out in 1 piece because we won. I don’t know how much it cost to go to matches back then as I went in with E&S photographers and sat with them behind the goal most of the time. Was there on the side of the pitch when Eamon Andrew’s came out with his big red book and did Emlyn Hughes

Appreciate all posts on this feed.
COYW.
I can't stop watching the goal nice one Arddunby.

I can remember being a young teenager under 16 and it was £2 entrance in the south bank for kids.
£3 for adults.

My dad couldn't afford a season ticket each for my bro and I so my dad got us both a half season ticket at Christmas.

If I had children and 2 boys like my dad it would be very expensive in todays prices.
Ken the cost today is taking away the working class man away from the football matches as its so expensive.
But you still get full house and waiting list in our wolves fanbase circumstances (premier league) so the club can have the power to charge what they like.
I think for our away fans some grounds are way more expensive I think that's unfair,
But its worth every penny to see your team The Wolves in action if you have the means to do so that is.

Sheffield utd I went away when I was 17 and shook Billy Wright's hand, my dad's hero when my dad was a kid, (50's heyday)

FOREVER WOLVES ARE WE.

Hope you are well. Couldn't get to that QF against Liverpool, was at Secondary school at the time where a mate and I tried to bunk off to get to the match, but we were under the gaze of too many strict teachers who had wised up to what was going on. On another note in that same season I remember Wolves playing Leeds on a Monday afternoon in an FA Cup replay at Elland Road in front of over 40, 000 fans. I maybe wrong but I seem to remember a lot of tickets were given away free to striking miners etc-I could be wrong and probably am, but if anyone went to that game and could shed some light on it?

I'm OK thanks.
Dito hope you alright too.
A few hours left and I'm done work for the week.
Looking forward to the weekend of football.

Good to hear that you're OK Phil.

Yes, I was at school during that cup run ( o level year) and both the Exeter 5-1 win and the 1-0 Liverpool quarter final win were played in the afternoon because of the electricity shortage/ rationing ( remember having to use candles?).
Didn't get to see the Exeter game because of the clash with school but we were all let out early for the Liverpool game as they knew there'd be a multitude of forged sick notes otherwise!
The final was a great day out and there was even a quadrant of Wolves fans at the Man City end as they couldn't sell all their tickets. Some things never change.
Sha la la la Summerbee who the ******* **** is he? Those were the days.

Great reply Old Wulf and thanks for acknowledging I'm OK.
I have been with estate agent this afternoon again and showed him the goal Arddunby he loved it.
We were chatting about wolves jeez it went on a bit.

Old Wulf I've read posts of yours of past years I may forget in time what were in them but always appreciate your posts as I do everyone's who post about tines before me.
Any wolves fanatic of younger years like myself will see these posts and opportunities to learn history of our great club.
