Gotta say lads, I watched the match and beforehand thought the worst for you, given the struggles last season

I honestly thought you were very good and should have been in front, if not by a couple, before they scored

You are definitely missing that striker but what on earth was that penalty decision about? I went on the Utd pages and one poster mentioned they were lucky, another said they were 'lucky Onana never clattered they player going for the ball otherwise it was a definite penalty' - since when is it only a foul if the player has or is going for the ball? Swear I read it a few times - is it only the Manchester sides that get these wtf decisions go for them and are able to defend them like this?

It's sad given that all the hype is around treating officials with respect etc, yet Howard Webb and co haven't managed to figure out that the attitude from players and staff comes from the complete ineptitude in the VAR room and the decisions therein - onfield officials miss stuff, it happens. But the guy in the VAR room seeing the same replays we all see and thinking 'nah, no penalty for me' is simply ridiculous - I was going to say 'inconceivable' and then just got Princess Bride flashbacks lol

Disappointing result but honestly a good performance that deserved much more lads. That at least shows you are in a decent enough place - good luck for the season

Thanks Bill for a very honest post. You don't mention any allegiance to anyone (?), nonetheless it nice to read your words of encouragement. I think we surprised as one news report put it 'the nation' last night and gleaned an amount of sympathy due to shocking ref/VAR. As you point out we are in dire need of a goal, but we created enough to suggest we'll be hitting the net before long.

{Ed001's Note - Bill is a regular on the Arsenal site.}

Thanks for the comments Bill and for the clarification Ed001. Dare we hope that given the seemingly national outcry about this particular piece of 'adjudication' things might actually change and VAR is used to get decisions right.

I know it got so much coverage because we were playing Man U on a Monday night making us the only Premier footy on the telly, but the amount of outrage from fans like Bill from all over the country has been overwhelming because we can all see how a potentially good piece of technology like VAR is being so badly misused. It's only the first weekend of the new season and already Wolves have received yet another apology over a VAR controversy, which was supposed to resolve conflict not create it.

As for our performance I've said all along that too many people just jumped on the Wolves will be relegated bandwagon without doing their homework on the players we do actually have. Last nights performance came as no surprise to me, but yes, they do need to find the net.

My thoughts exactly longmynd. I could not believe the rubbish that Paul Emerson was spouting on sky and I just hope that we carry on rubbing his nose into the dirt . We have some fantastic players and if these so called pundits did their homework they would not be predicting us to go down.

A great performance against Rennes was backed up by our performance last night but unfortunately we couldn't take advantage of our dominance. Let's see what happens on Saturday but a win could give the fans the lift that they have been waiting for. Games against Everton and West Ham will hold no fears for us so let's get behind our beloved team and prove a lot of so called experts wrong .

Awk Ed001 I'm hurt, I post the odd time on the Arsenal page but am a regular on the Liverpool page!

I agree 100% LongmyndWolf, VAR is a very useful piece of technology which is simply being poorly managed - where are the discussions with those involved in such inept decisions? Disciplinary action taken? Honestly though, what use is an apology or acknowledgement that they got it wrong? Points win prizes and such points could result in relegation and millions lost for some club or, for us for example, a title lost

Like you said though, it is not just one set of fans calling foul on such decisions - every single set of fans, bar the Manchester sides lol, are united in their despair over such decisions, the galling lack of improvement despite multiple 'apologies' and the sheer lack of any accountability whatsoever

Good luck for the season lads, that VAR controversy aside, you honestly looked very good in your play

{Ed001's Note - sorry Bill I last saw you post on Arsenal so assumed. It is difficult to keep track my apologies that was a very grave insult,}
