Went to the Derby game yesterday and I've got to say we missed Barry Douglas. All this stuff about having no sentiment in football is rubbish for me. Our main creative outlet last season was raking balls from Coady and Neves to either Doc or Bazza. In this formation that we play those 2 players enjoy an awfull of space and freedom where then we need players with attacking qualities. The role of wingback for me is 70% attack and 30% defence, hence why you play 3 centre backs. After watching the game yesterday and I know its only his 1st game but that Jonny is a full back not a wing back! He seemed very reluctant to go forward and offer that width that doc and bazza did. So based on that in my opinion we either need to play Vinegra or invest in another WINGBACK not left back. UTW.

Good post turu, I personally think it was wrong to sell Douglas but that’s my opinion , we just have to put our faith in Nuno and the team and let’s hope we can have a good crack at the premiership. This season for me is about survival anything else is a bonus but would love to see us up there.

I understand what you're saying about Wingbacks and how they fit into our style of play. Douglas and Doherty did really well last season but we must remember that before Nuno arrived, neither of them had ever played Wingback. They were full backs. Nuno converted them and hopefully he can do the same with Jonny.

Y’know there needs to be a bit of a different approach to these transfers. Rojo-Yes. Notice how he’s not a Mendes client? Notice how Douglas who wasn’t a Mendes client was probably one of our best players last season?

I understand where your coming from Jas but after watching Jonny play on numerous occasions he seems very limited when going forward where I think doc and baz already possessed those qualities. i'm not for one minute doubting his defence capabilities and people can turn round and say Atletico Madrid wouldn’t sign a bad player but you have to remember Madrid play a totally different game/ formation to ourselves. I might be wrong in my judgment and nuno might be able to turn him into a more attacking wingback. He’s an adequate backup to our style of play in my opinion.

This is all getting a bit depressing now, its like scene out of titanic, he's gone and he ain't comin back.
All this negativity 2 players makin their ENGLISH football debut, getting used to a new culture half a game each and they ain't good enough, oh if my memory serves me properly it was a pre season friendly.
We lost to shrewsbury last year with our big guns in. There will be more comings and goings this week, let's leave it to the professionals aye.

Douglas was released because of Disciplinary reasons not Footballing reasons, Nuno and Fosun made the choice to Get Rid because of his bad Attitude, he showed his true colours and the club didn't like it.
He's gone now, get over it.

I never once mentioned about us losing dingle dave! It was a poor performance but that's got to be expected pre-season. I was just pointing out that I think we need a like for like almost if not an upgrade on Douglas and for me Jonny ain't that. i'm basing my opinion on what I've seen. Listen I might be totally wrong and jonny might do a job but for me not as 1st choice. I still think we will finish mid table. I have no idea where you got that this convo was all doom and gloom! Just mearly pointing out where I think we can still improve.

I'd never heard of Jonny before we signed him. I've never seen him play so can't judge what he will bring to the team but I do trust that Nuno knows what he's doing.

Douglas has gone, get over it and move on. Whatever the reason, Nuno is the gaffer and he knows more than we ever will.
