Football has been same for years Exeter so not sure what you are on about, rio was sold to Leeds in 1999 for 18 mil, in 2002 sold to manu for 30 mil, prize for wining league in 2002 was less than 9 mil, prize money for wining league 2016 was 38 mil and most expensive defender purchased is 54 mil, tv deal for next 3 years is 5.5 billion and footie growing in Asia and north America, hopefully wolves can jump on this wave!

What I find hard to believe is that all this money is swilling around in football and that most certainly includes the payments to players and yet nobody seems to complain, yet bankers and top industrialists who generate wealth are regarded as rich pariahs who should be taxed to the hilt and even better sacked for exploiting the system. Who is paying all this money, Joe Soap in the stands week after week, buying the merchandise and watching on the T. V. Exploitation or what?

Wollabby,
Yes there is one hell of a lot of money in football now. But, there are complaints about it everywhere. Football people are taxed in the same way as bankers, top industrialists and Joe Soap. Jus look how many football people are up in court for tax avoidance. It's just that the richer you are the greedier you get and generally you look for ways of paying less tax. Joe Soap can't do that of course as he is on PAYE and struggling to survive.

Players in US sports, "football', baseball, ice hockey and basketball all make more money than footballers in England. What is the problem? let's face it the global audience for association football '"soccer" is infinitely greater. There will be no imploding any time soon. let's have our club and our city on the wave!

Think we are agreeing Deep Throat. What I may not have said clearly enough is that it is poor old Joe Soap who is funding all this excess and I don't think it's right. It's not just football other sports as well. I know football is a short career but to earn (oops sorry I mean be paid) 5 times the average person's yearly income in a week is obscene and it's just for entertainment.

That was said 5 years ago, and 5 years before that. Transfer fees will only increase as long revenues continue to grow. It's not that amazing transfer fees have doubled since the TV revenues doubled in the last TV deal.

With the growth of online streaming football the money will keep rolling in. That's why there has been a big crackdown on illegal streaming.

To be honest I've no problem with the wages footballers earn. Billions of pound are paid into football each year, and it's only right that the talent get a large proportion of the money.

My dads been saying that since pretty much the start of the prem. Can't remember who but someone went for 10m and from that moment on he's believed it.

Whilst there is a demand and whilst that demand is growing at such a speed it's only going one way. Football is too big and always will be. Imagine what people would do without it? Going to games, watching games, commenting on forums, twitter etc.

Saw Leeds prices yesterday and it's a disgrace but they'll still sell them. Demand for even the championship now is huge.

Excited - I did get out my name (s) today to big gasps. But relegation battle looms - too many inexperienced foreign players at Wolves. League One next.
